I saw the same thing over Ireland last week (had time to get my camera and video it, will put it up on YouTube over the next few days), was too slow for a meteor so did some research on the net. The ISS was due to pass over Ireland around the time l saw it (9.30pm approx.), so l reckon this is what it is. Nice video jemmer23

nice video, but it's moving way to slow to be a asteroid/meteor.....more than likely a very high flying military craft or other man made sky traveler....when you look at "actual" daytime meteors/asteroids on film, they zip quite fast across the sky with a much longer, narrower tail...just my opinion of course.

@mydadsarobot... it could appear to be moving slow due to how high it is. If it is large and very high in the sky it could be traveling just as fast as a meteor but it would appear to be slow.

heres my opinion, ( good video anyway :) )

i saw a high flying plane over my house when the sun was setting, and it looked 100% like this, i think due to the fact of the earths curve the contrail wasnt visible for long, maybe its the same case here

Please, What do you mean doesn't maintain.

how far a contrail extends behind an aircraft depends on a number of factors.

The main one being the atmospheric conditions on a given day..

The humidity of the air that it is flying in dictates the ability to form a contrail.

Read up a bit on it and you will see.

The hunt is on for the fireball thingy that was seen over Ireland this evening! Tis supposed to be somewhere in Cavan.  At $500 a gram, i'd say there'll be many folks looking for it!
