Yeah Elliott Smith used a capo to bring up his 1/2 step tuning up. So I assume thats why he's doing that.

I feel you though...capos dont typically mix well with electric cuz they mess up the tuning more and interfere with playing because of the lower action.

actualy he's most likely using capo first fret because, he has a lot of songs tuned down half step so instead of retuning every song or wtv he uses a capo.

yeah i never did either-- i recently got a used guitar intonated, and it sounds great without a capo. But with it--i dont' know, it gets it a little out of tune... Could be my worn capo, but i think it is related to the lower action on my guitar.

if your strings are high off the fret board and you use a capo it probably puts pressure on the bridge and detunes it. thats real common if you have a wammy bar too.
