@feindhortmit I had a miniature panic attack. cried for a bit. then I went to the emirates stadium tour. that made it a bit better, but the disappointment still remains with me. haha
The FA cup is the oldest knockout competition in the world, not just in 'sports'. What makes it so special is that in England & Wales it involves every team in the country, this means you can theoretically make a team with your friends, enter the combined counties league at the very bottom, and have the chance to get to the final and win the trophy that same year. In recent years it has been overshadowed though by the glamour of the European Cup.
I wanna go to Wembley to see England v The Netherlands but since im dutch I have to buy freaking expensive tickets, anybody have an idea how to get them cheaper?
i had the fortune of visiting london, only for two days, and we stay across the street from the the wembley tube station. god i would kill to go back.
The Trophy as an American I don't know anything about it. But every year the NFL play's one game there. If my Green Bay Packers ever play there, they posses the first Vince Lombardi Trophy. They should bring it with and get a picture of the two trophy's together.
@southparkfan2717 The FA Cup is the oldest nation-wide football tournament in the world, for any code of football.
The trophy now used is the fourth FA Cup trophy since the tournament began. It has been in use since 1992, and is an exact replica of the the third trophy, which was in use from 1911 to 1991. The second trophy was used from 1896 to 1910, before being presented to Lord Kinnaird.
The second trophy was a replica of the first, which was stolen (and never recovered) in September 1895.
@flygweilo Interesting, if you care the Vince Lombardi Trophy is the greatest honor in American Football. It goes to the winner of the Superbowl. It was first awarded in 1967 after the Green Bay Packers under coach Vince Lombardi (greatest coach of all time) won the first superbowl (and the second the next year). At first it didn't have a name, but Lombardi would die in 1970 and the Trophy was named to honor him. The design has never changed.
@southparkfan2717 As I understand matters, isn't a completely new trophy presented each and every year to the Superbowl winners?
In contrast, the same trophy is used for the FA Cup for many consecutive years, with the name of each year's winner being progressively engraved thereon. I think the Stanley Cup is the same way?
Each FA Cup trophy is made of solid sterling silver. The thieves who stole first FA Cup trophy were caught, & admitted they had melted it down to make counterfeit coins. :-)
@flygweilo As for Wembley itself: the old Wembley Stadium was built in 1923 for the British Empire Exhibition of 1924. It took 300 days to complete, and cost £750,000.
Known at first as "The Empire Stadium", it had a design capacity of 127,000 spectators, and was first used for the 1923 FA Cup Final between Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United. 250,000 spectators crowded into the stadium on the day.
We are still getting used to the new stadium, but the old one had become a pit by about 1995
i was lucky enough when i was in england to see this place...even if you just take a tour pictures dont say enough about it...one of the nicest stadiums i have ever been to

prefered the old wembley, had more style character, you had the huge walk up, the new 1 just looks like any other modern bland, lifeless, stadium.
