i didn't see this movie, but you done great explain, sara here doesn't need or have time to understand what happen to excuse the last solider from guilt, she was in blindness status after she saw what happened to her son in front of her eyes!
psh. does she look like she or her family ever had slaves? didnt think so. this kind of shit is horrible n to say "o yeah well the south did this to slaves" is belittling to all the people who didnt have shit to do with slavery. Slaves, free women, it doesnt matter. don't say "well, this happened to so and so" because that's belittling each incident. plus, lumping everyone all together is pure ignorant.
I have to say though, the youngest soldier was obviously scared of what the two others might do to him if he didn't obey their sadistic orders. He was sweet and I feel bad that he had to die.
@missmoreawesomethanu I dunno the scene where the CSA home guard ties up a old mother to a fence and crush her hands to find out where her deserting sons are was better. Fucking Rebs. *smiles*
@missmoreawesomethanu Dude, its a movie!!! i bet that did happen but i also bet it wasent only the union! If you renember that scene from the movie the confederate told the chubby guy to cover his face with his hat and they shot him. So the union wasent the only ones
She did the right thing . What do you think would have happened when the young yank got back to his command without his buddies ? Right , the whole regiment would be down on her .
those soldiers got what they deserved if not for the rape even more for them putting a small baby like that out on the ground... almost makes me feel bad for the kid trying to help the baby but whatever his band of goons are rapists.
"almost?" He was pretty much the only person in this movie I cared about. I understand that woman wanting to kill him but seriously he did not even deserve it.
He didn't deserve that, what a ho

Actually Southern historian and writer Shelby Foote said there were NO rapes NONE by Union troops during Sherman's March to the Sea. Got that - none.
Yes -- there were rapes other times -- and the North prosecuted them -- executed soldiers for rape.
Compare that to the South - where millions of slaves were raped, whipped, branded, sold, their children sold -- the men burned to death who rebelled.

Give me a fucking break -- let's have movies of what the Confederates did to slaves -- for 100 years, not during a war, during every day normal shit.
Whipping, raping, selling children, whipping whites who dared speak out -- burning to death slaves who rebelled.
Yes war is hell -- shit happens. But the Civil War ended slavery. I wish it could have been done politely without any one hurt.

I hope you're not talking about the innocent one getting shot. If so your idea of justice is flawed

This part was very sad and suspenseful when I saw it in theaters. Very emotional.
The beginning of the movie "Battle of the Crater" was probably more emotional for some people.

I think it's the most impressing scene in the whole movie! And I totally agree with your comment!

:D, it's great to see another person being able to see the many viewpoints, the themes, the morals, etc of this particular scene.
i'm glad to have read what you have said.
