i really wanna know, i just got into my teens and i kind of want to learn how to play reggae bass, shud i take lessons or just learn the scales and play by ear. Im from hawaii so actually a lot of people play by ear here
This bassline was originally from "Love Fire" by bassie Tony Gad of Aswad. A dub album was released with Love Fire becoming Dub Fire. Dennis Browns "Promised Land" was based on this...
brah you play the roots music pretty mean....... The bass juss sounds so killahs.... Are u like in a reggae band or anything....... I know a couple of some killah roots basslines myself but not 2 many but thanks for posting all these up..... It helps out alot..... right on brah keep jammin the roots
This bassline gives a feeling like u surfing the mother of all mighty waves - too powerful n engulfing. Dennis Brown's (RIP) silky n heavenly voice just calm u down and tells u Almighty JAH is watchinh over ya. Baaaad tune.
I've just picked up bass, and am looking for an amp powerful enough to jam with a traps player (unmiced). I want something that has good low ends for reggae, funk, hiphop. etc. But something that is clear, even, and not fuzzy.
Any suggestions?
I'm looking at the Eden Silver N28S combo. But I'm not sure if 120 watts will cut it.
Wow...I don't much about bass playing but u got this bass line down nicely! THe right lenght in sound, right timing...the little quick inbetween notes too! Wicked!!!!!
InI love the video as yare keepin the music live. Musicians respect different versions and styles. Seen. 'The colour of a man's skin is of no more importance than the color of his eyes'....the style the same so long as it comes from the heart and PRACTICE GOOD.
This is the way I like it, something in between Familyman and Robbie (everyone has his own style :-). In some other vids I use palm muting or muting foam, it just depends of the song.
i dont know what that dude's talking about, this shits is sweet man keep it coming , i wish i could get lessons from you mang, i got a request for bumbo claat/tosh -have a good one
I've yet to see a real reggae bassist (and I've seen a lot) mute the strings with their palm. I don't know where people get this idea. Alion, you've got it right. Reggae bass playing is about a full, open sound with precise control over the length of the note...that's what makes it groove.
Yes I know I know about riddims and Love Fire is one of the great riddims. I used the word sampling because sometimes you only hear a certain part of the song. Many artists use Love Fire and don't use the horns. In the Jamaican music world it's called a Version. Dennis Brown's version has less horns than Aswad's seen? Some people version no horns at all.
hey guys im looking for a good combo amp thats 100-200 bucks something good to put out that low end dubby style bass.....im using a yamaha bb405 5 string jazz bass/natural finish.
Hey man, I play a lot of reggae bass(i already know most classic riddims and a lot of your vids like this 1), my ear is not that good, I've been trying to figure out King Tubby's Flag dub. its a massive bassline with a ton of feel, but i can't seem to find the right notes, maybe u can do a video of it.

@david33456 Try to play by ear and learning the basic scales, it' not that difficult. If that doesn't work out, you can take some lessons. Enjoy
ALIONBASS 7 months ago
@david33456 learn the basic scales, but play by ear, listen to the drums and the gaps between the notes ... the groove (sorry for my english)

You should try playing closer to the fret board or palm mute the bridge for a real reggae effect

I think they are confused lol. Palm muting is great for ska if you want a slight upright bass sound.

Hey ALION, this bassline is actually Aswad's Love Fire Haha. Been sampled a lot man.
DreadyDiggs 3 years ago
Yes it is. I think the original version is from Dennis Brown (but I'm not shure)
ALIONBASS 3 years ago
You right man, I read one place that it was Aswad first, but naw, Dennis came out with Promised Land at least 4 years before Love Fire.
DreadyDiggs 3 years ago
its not sampled its called a riddim guy everyone can use it over and over as much as they want thats the difference with jamaican music
