  • What's the best Wacom? Cintiq 21" LCD?

  • Very nice, the real master teaches...

  • So can you make any weapon

  • Can you put images behind the model to use as a guide? You know, like you would put orthographic front, back, left, top, bottom images behind the model in max or maya to build your model over?

  • Great presentation, but some of your earlier comments bothered me. It seemed like you were talking down to artist still using other tools such as max/maya. "just focused on being an artist, that is my main goal in life" 0:40 . It's great that you get to work with one tool set, that is a dream come true for any artist. But this video didn't offer any suggestions to production artists on a practical way to use this tutorial. I will check out the workshop website in hopes that this is covered.

  • can anyone please help me when i zoom i click Alt together i scroll but i cannot zoom in or out help me please?is there a system to get keyboard shortcuts?

  • thanks for the useful tutorial. I have a simple question. May i know how do you reposition the drawn rectangular mask around at 07.00 mins of the vid? thanks a bunch in advance.

  • @sotmuu To reposition the mask you press SPACEBAR while CTRL is still pressed. Then just move your cursor. :)

  • @rkingslien thanks a lot for the quick reply =)

  • So instead of cramming all the shapes in Shadowbox, you build each piece, combine mesh and then re-mesh etc?

  • how is it called " DEATH TO BOX MODELING " when you used shadow box to create some parts of the MP5-K ?

  • @Seiferzed Do you know what box modelling is? Editing on a polygon level (moving verts and edges around.)

  • @SupaPoopaScoopa ok then , its still invalid since zbrushs end meshes are too high level and messy and you have to go through the model a second time to rebuild it in another box modeling program

  • @Seiferzed You are right, of course, it depends on your requirements. It goes without saying that you wouldn't use Zbrush to create something low poly. This is based around the difficulties and time consuming tasks of creating something high poly.

If your point was to take his, "Death to box modelling" literally in all possibly carnations, you are right, he did not mean low poly.

  • Its funny, your paving the way for the destruction of box modeling, but your instruction made me look at my own box modeling a whole new way, i.e to approach it with much more careful analysis and doing more in the premodeling phase, really helps. I dont intend to leave box modeling, I like it, but I have zbrush for sculpting and wanted to see some of the hardsurface work people are doing in it. Its incredible, I love it, but wouldnt some of this be a WHOLE lot easier in traditional box modeling

  • @XTheDentist Thanks for the comment. Box modeling is great. Its just an old technology. Wait till you see the next version of ZBrush, though. The hard surface stuff is getting another boost up. :)

  • @rkingslien Wow, that sounds exciting and scary I mean, im only a hobbyist but I've put a lot of effort into understanding polygonal modeling and zbrush is so damn seductive with everything from its strange interface and workflow to the kinds of things I've seen done with zspheres and now I see pretty much a perfect MP5 made with these new tools and it looks like a lot of fun as you described being a more artistic feel. But its so different that I almost have to forget what I know about modeling

  • So Zbrush is the program itself am i right? Where can i download the program itself?

  • its work to uploud this weapon to css and play with this?

i want try to do self a weapon for css ....

  • My favorite tutor, Ryan.

Wish other companies had their own.

  • i learn in zbrushworkshop an its amaizing, if you like zbrush/sculpt you must try this workshop, and ryan teach realy cool, he not teaching the program, he teach all do you need to made a human body, hard surface and more, i started a few month ago and i lear so fast with this workshop

  • @sandy29510 Thanks Sandy. Glad its working out for you. :)

  • How much does it cost..?

  • In this method, can I then use the topology tools and make a low\med-poly version for output to other apps?

  • @GFXRTist Yes, you can even decimate the whole thing down so you can retopo in another app if you want.

  • @GFXRTist Absolutely. In my book, I decimated the model down but you can also retopo it and use the projection system in ZBrush to get it into another app.

  • @7:57 it has the topology, it has the EDGE LOOPS! fuckin so nice to see this on youtube man

  • @diogeneslaertius666 Thanks. You should look into the Groupsloops feature as well. I used that to create edgelooping on a tennis shoe once. Pretty cool new feature as well.

  • this is why everything has changed, because the modelling workflows have been made more tactile and utterly intuitive...

can u imagine where we will be in 20 years?

  • @diogeneslaertius666 Yeah, the future of sculpting is going to be amazing. I'm very happy to be alive and working today.

  • Ryan,

I just wanted to take a moment and say that your work and the work of other Zbrushers (you in particular though) have been such a major inspiration to me in my own life. It all has much less to do with the various industries themselves and more to do with the power of sculpting and the power of art to change the way we see life itself maybe but.

Wow, man I just wanted to say thanks for all the inspiration you have given others, thanks for bringing these to youtube

  • @diogeneslaertius666 Thanks Joshua. I really appreciate the support. :)

  • @diogeneslaertius666 Thanks Joshua. I really appreciate the kind words. :)

  • dude your videos are awesome greetings from colombia .... I hope you continue uploading new vids ... :D

  • @mcpepachoco Thanks. Will do. Uploading another right now.

  • ryan, you truly are a master

  • I love your "Death to Box Modeling" viewpoint. The technicalities of modeling most of the time takes away from the ease of artistic creation. Keep running with that thinking, I love it!

  • @arthaven Thanks! ;)

  • Man, all your work is Awesome! I haven't completed a full character yet. I want to, but the dvd's i got the instructor speed sculpts or just goes super fast, I get frustrated and stop. Thank you for sharing your work.

  • @jerodvel I hear you. Check out our stuff at ZBW. Our Master Class, that is going on now, is all about real-time instruction. It means you can't pack the content into an hour and a half DVD but you do get a complete character out of it.

  • @rkingslien Thank you for taking the time to respond, I will check it out. Thank you Grand Master!!!
