  • A haunting classic....

    Thanks

  • Change your heart

    Look around you

    Change your heart

    Will astound you. ♥

  • i feel like beck made it sadder

  • If you can be bothered to look there are several more versions of this song performed by the writer James Warren with his main band STACKRIDGE - still gigging in the UK & performing it live. If anything James sings it even better than he did on the original recording

  • Must we choose? Both version are beautiful in their own right...as are most people.

    Peace

  • Holy Crap Beck covered this. I thought Beck wrote this either way his version was more amazing.

  • Yep Everybody's gotta learn sometime, but who's to say when. Music can be a door to the other, but you need to be open to it.

  • yes, definitely a good song. the lyrics and the composition do it for me.

  • i wish people would learn that wot they want isnt always the best

    a broken man

  • I like the original version because the Queen name her dogs korgis proabaly after hearing the original song, And because she the Queen of the hole country she must be right. But dopy old Queen could not get the doggy spelling right. The Korgis version sound so creamy I could melt, and thats without the drugs.

  • fuck everyones opinion i like both of them alot

  • @msgt33 no really it's still th best one but thanks anyway.

  • The British have contributed SO MUCH to music.

Most of the best songs/artists in history are from the UK.

  • @Mattyb88ful the beatles maybe. But even then. The States grew bluegrass, jazz and baseball out of their soil : ) And bob dylan. The UK bred dreary poets, terrible tv shows and tasteless food. Thumbs up for beck's version : D

  • @MandolinforJesus

the Beatles, led zepplin, black sabbath, rolling stones, elton john, pink floyd etc

though, i agree about the crap british food lol.

  • @MandolinforJesus

Wow, that's one of the most retarded comments i've ever read......seriously.....youtube is full of fuck 'tards. But that comment was something special.

  • God I love this heatrbreakingly beautiful song

  • Becks a great talent but still not a patch on the original

  • Beck is a loser

  • everyone should find there own starting point and work back to the original, this is a song with more starting points than most, its a great journey, trust me Spud Custard

  • korgis version makes me dream !!!

  • Both versions have merit, crazy where shit goes and ends up.

  • this version is SHIT

  • This version is SHIT

  • The original version is the Best. By the way, cover is similar a Company that replace yours employee by third parties. All work becomes a waste.

So, the Beck version is waste.

  • @Nessus55 Waste, you say? Well, I think your opinion is pure excrement, but you don't care do you? Just like no one cares about what you have to say either.

  • loved this!

  • I'm not one to always champion the original. There are plenty of covers which I've preferred over the years, but not this one. The original was made to sound intentionally vapid and void of feeling like the elevator music of the era in which it was written, but it somehow conveys a haunting feeling rife with emotion and regret. Beck's version attempted to energize and funk-up the style of the song and somehow in the process produced something that truly IS vapid. FAIL, as the kiddies say.

  • THE KORGIS'S VERSION HAVE AN HYPNOTIST EFECT THAT BECK'S VERSION DON'T HAVE

  • la mejor es de The Korgis no sean estupidos ,el tono de voz le queda perfecto ademas que es la original , pero la de beck no esta mal esta bueno tambien....

  • Korgis' version is obviously superior to me. Beck's version is boring and monotonous like most of his music.

  • beck is the best

  • This reminds me of the shifts in Beatle's I want you / She's so heavy... Nice job!

  • mejor que beck , la version de zucchero..

  • I remember hearing this beautiful tune on the radio as a young Marine stationed ijn North Carolina back in 1980. Wow! 30 yrs went bye so fast. The second half sucks. People should make their own tunes and stop copying other peoples work.

  • absolutely love this song...so many memories

  • LIKE THE SUNSHIINNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEE

    BEST LINE EVER

  • The fact this song has so many remakes shows what a great song it was in the first place.

  • This song makes the hair stand on the back of my neck. It is so emotive and genuine. Beautiful! This is the best version, the original!

  • La versión original lejos la mejor!!!

  • the perfect song for a Lonely man

  • I think is so much better Beck, is more melancolic ...

  • don't forget the third cover by the field. Not that this or beck's version is bad its just that the field's version is the best!

  • ES MEJOR EL COVER JODER!!!!

  • The original stands out as class. Don't talk to me about any cover versions!

  • who is this??? much love, thank u 4 sharing ur voice!

  • Mola mucho más la versión de los korgis, pavos ...

  • me encanta este tema; siempre lo escucho.

  • so beautiful

  • both versions are wonderful. the first is great because naturally its the original, the second is awesome because its a good cover (and its sung by BECK!!!!!!!!!!!!)

nice pic btw, beck looks so sweet

  • Jon Brion has a way better thing going on with the song. He gave it a timeless cool vibe. Beck's voice is amazing with it. I don't like this version. Credit to the lyrics and the first attempt. Without you badasses there would be no alternate.

  • como se llama los artistas que cantene esa cancion

  • la original es de The Korgis, y el cover es de Beck.

  • @radioheadicta There is another version:

Erasure, from the album "Other people' s song" (2003)

    : - )

  • @radioheadicta But is horrible! LOL!!!

  • i thing is realy kool muy buen tema

  • i prefer becks cover but this is really good to :) and they def deserve credit for making an amazing song

  • Tunnnnnnnnnnne !Original is this best, Thanks for posting

  • Muito boa essa 1ª versão... Já conhecia a original... mais está versão "classica" ficou muitooo boa também... nunca tinha escutado... Parabéns... \o/

  • I think it's also important to note that the Eternal Sunshine version is not really the "Beck version". It's actually the Jon Brion version that he arranged and recorded but later asked Beck to sing on for the movie. Jon Brion deserves the credit for making that version so hauntingly beautiful. Beck was a great choice for vocals but Jon Brion is the genius behind the cover.

  • @kephaisrock

I didn't know that, but that makes so much sense... It's kinda obviously Brion, in hindsight :)

  • all my best songs are irrevocably tied up with the time and events that shaped my memories which such music evoke.

I gues whatever version one first hear alows one to undergo the abovementioned process. That when certain versions become saintly and others sheer nonsense.

  • @stronkdisselboom

    exactly.

Songs can bring back such a strong presence of memory.

  • I 'm 100% agree Franerg, I like Beck becuase of the movie , but the korgis song is the original Ánd i like that the same. Realmente me gustan todas las versiones que he escuchado con diferentes grupos o cantantes. La canción es hermosa.

  • People that criticize the original version of a song are ignorant, it's normal to say that the cover of whatever singer or group is good, but the original song deserves all the respect and because it's great beck in this case wanted to cover it! So Beck made a good cover, but the original song IS THE ORIGINAL SONG!!!

  • @franerg So, what you are saying is... the original song, is the, original song?

    ASTOUNDING!

  • @Nillok 29 thumbs up in my comment and you didn't understand what i meant to say? "ASTOUNDING!"

  • @franerg Oh I understood what you were saying, I just somewhat disagree with it somewhat. I will say this, that covers can definitely be better than the originals. Just check out Whitney Houston's cover of Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You or Johnny Cash's cover of NIN's Hurt.

  • @Nillok LOL WHAT AN ASTUTE OBSERVATION

  • @franerg

The original is not always the definitive version. I personally think Beck's version is a masterpiece......not to say i don't like the origional. I think it's great.....but Beck made it his own. Fits perfectly with Eternal Sunshine.

  • what a nice pic..

    Beck looks great.. :D

  • David David ..Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

  • this ver sucks...sry but beck is way better in my opinion

  • this was the original! Well whatever, I like this version but maybe it's whatever people hear first.

  • Best slow ever

  • this song guides me..

  • grat song, i like it very much

  • Die Version von Korgis ist nach meiner Auffassung die beste. Beck fehlt die Tiefe und die emotionale Weite. Und etwas Romantik gehört nun mal zu diesem Song!

  • Thank you for posting this. The Korgis for me is the original and best, especially the extended version...goosebump city. Can someone please post the long version.A million thanks!!!

  • Corgi's version was always a favorite - I'm just glad someone thought of it to remake it! I like the musical sounds of Corgi's better.

  • I think I am going to listen to it all night long !!!! Everybody's got to learn sometime

  • @silat1974 Yes Dude! It´s a great song....

  • Beautiful song <3

  • I'm not sure if Beck felt what this song is really about.

  • Don't really agree with that. I felt Beck was a true fan of the original to be able to modernize such a great song.

  • I can agree with that, but when Korgis sing the song I feel very much more the story the heartbreaking and the romance than in Becks Version. He seems to be tired of needing some loving.

  • 29 years ago, from the mastertape...must be.

  • I prefer to Beck!

  • Beck is changed since "I´m a loser ...why dont you kill me"

  • yeah, now he's not saying it ironically anymore. he means it.

  • becks version is soo much better the original suckx

  • as if!

  • agreed !!

  • ke billina <3

  • at last the band is getting some recognition...more plze

  • becks version sounds so bad after the korgies sorry its an age thing

  • dope just heard it on daft punk radio 1st time

  • listening to both the more I like the one the more I get to like the other. Really a brilliant song and arrangement.

  • pazzesca sta song........

  • you putted it nicely together

    but there are more versions

    like the ones from

erasure and the one from krezip

  • The eq's all messed up on Korgis' version. sounds like it was ripped from a vhs tape.

  • bad, bad, bad, bad!!!

  • i prefer beck's version, but the original is good

  • The first is the original, and its a very good song, the harmony, the lyrics, the atmosphere etc. But Beck's version is fresh, contemporary, much more atmospheric, the guitar solo is great and sounds like the guitar in "While My guitar Gently weeps" . Simply great!

  • you are so right about the atmosphere

  • First time, I heard the first version and I really like it very much, although I like Beck's version more...

But it's still a great voice, I have to load it on my ipod. ♥

  • I prefer the second version =)

  • first better than second

  • eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!

  • woah, thanks for sharing!

I love this songs, although I love Beck´s version more than the original, they´re both great.

    thanks again!

    xoxoxo
