@snoogly Thanks. Did you hand feed liquid (or semi solid) through syringe at 4 weeks or the seeds? We are thinking of breeding our parakeets in a couple months time. While ours are now hand tamed (we got them at 4-5 months old from pet store), they are not playful with us. We didn't clip their wings. We wud like to train their chicks and would love if they could turn out to be like Sven. My daughter would like to know the name of Sven's brother. Did u know at 4 weeks if they were both boys
@sangeelove It was the 'chick' food, mixed with warm water, then fed with a spoon. You have to dedicate a lot of time for the first few weeks - lots of feeding and talking, whistling, etc. I managed to bond with Sven before he could fly - we whistled in harmony :-) His brother was Shawn, but he died a little while ago :-(
Sven bonded so much with me, we are like brothers now. :)
Sven is the new star of youtube! Thank you so much for sharing these vids!
I've had four budgies in my life. My last was a light blue one and I called him Lasse. I teached him to say "Lassegutt, din skurk!" Which is Norwegian for "Lasse boy, you bandit!" He was a cool fellow! :)
@Phototato These days Sven teaches me new words and expressions. He very quickly learns the meanings of words, and loves to break them down into syllables > finally he creates new expressions. My favourite is "Budgoooo", which he shouts loudly, and shakes a little too. To him it's the ultimate way of expressing his 'budgieness'. It derived from "budgie" and "love you".
Walls here (in Japan) are often coated with 'stuff', which gives them a light sandpapery feel. How healthy this 'stuff' is, is questionable. In the first, very very old, house I lived in here, the 'stuff' was based on asbestos, and was supposed to be some kind of insulation.
Toby is alive and well, though much more 'bird-like' than Sven , as he lives with another budgie. They may be having a rare reunion this weekend. It's funny when they get together, as Shawn screeches, and Sven replies in English. Last time Sven kept asking him "What are you doing?" when he behaved badly (ie, like a bird, and not like Sven!).
Sven at 4 weeks: that's amazing! And his brother is almost his twin! (Though you can see the slight gradual change in colouring...) Very cute vid. (And "Happy to see you too"!)
Aww! How cute was that?? His brother was beautifully colored too.. Separating them most likely helped him learn more from you, and bond with you more! You definately raised him well! He is so smart! Thanks for the video of him as a baby!

Sven is so cute. If he was out of the nest box at 4 weeks, did you hand feed him?
sangeelove 5 months ago
@sangeelove Yes, hand feeding is the key to bondi, I think. But I could only do it because I was on holiday from work :)

@sangeelove Oh, I trusted the breeder's word that they were both boys, but you can't be sure!

@snoogly Thanks for responding. I'll ask you for expert advice again when our keets breed, hopefully in a few months time.

Snoogly, thank you for replying so quickly! I certainly appreciate that!
How much do you think Sven and his brother actually ingested the "stuff" as they climbed around?
I would imagine they are all right. This was uploaded earlier this year, and the boys are both okay?

Yes, their colouring was confusing when they little boys. I always thought it was Sven clinging to the wall, but now I realize it's Toby.
