It's hard to find anything second rate from Robert Plant, a true genious like John Lennon and co. Fate Of Nations is my fave RP album. I grew up of course on Led Zeppelin, what an honor.
It is commonly thought this song is about his son Karac who passed away as a young boy in the '70's. This is one of many tragedies that the members of Led Zeppelin endured in thier decade long run as one of the greatest bands ever. It's a love song and Plant's emotional vocals remind us of why he is a formidable blues singer. It is his own pain this go round - not Leadbelly's (one of his influences). Zeppelin's "All My Love" (In Through The Out Door, 1979) is also about Karac Plant.
@punkwalid Well truthfully, Plant's voice hasn't changed THAT much. Listen to Ozzy Osbourne now and in the 70's, HIS voice has indeed changed a lot, Plant's? Eh...not so much honestly, he's still got it.
@punkwalid --- Honey, Robert Plant was great with Zep, is great solo, and great with any other musicians he chooses to collaborate with. He is an ICON --- and at this point in his career, there is no need for him to re-do Zeppelin.... he can do any thing he wants to, any way he chooses. The best we can all do is just shut up and listen to what he comes up with next. He's amazing, and we're all dead lucky that he and his music happened along in OUR lifetime!
i can't listen to this without deep emotions surfacing as tears rolling down my face. truly beautiful.
