  • It is very rare that a film is created that I love to watch over and over - this is one. So many great songs and enjoyable for all ages.

  • Is there anywhere this track can be obtained online?

  • filmed at saint ann jamaica

  • *Looks at Like and Dislike Ratings*

ME: Huh!? 7 people Dislikes this movie!?

That's it! Popeye, eat some Spinach and give those guys some big ol' sucker punches to em'!

  • I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO DARN MUCH! XD I used to have it on VHS when I was little. Then had it on DVD. Now I'm 18, and STILL LOVING IT! XD

In fact, I JUST finished watching it on DVD as I typed this message! ^^

Blow Me Down, Everything Is Food, I Am What I Am, I'm Mean, and Popeye The Sailor Man are my favorite music in this heart-felting, adventurous, one of the most underrated movies ever made in America! <3

Please Thumbs Up so I know you STILL LOVE THIS MOVIE even now! ^^

  • I'm buying, you're paying - Barak "Commodore" Obama

  • This is one of my favorite scenes from the Popeye movie. ^_^

  • i think of this song every lunch time hahaha

  • I love this film.I saw it at the theater when it came out, have it on DVD now,and have the soundtrack record(which saddly omits this track). At times, certain songs, it reminds me of Fiddler on the Roof.

  • I think this a really good movie. Silly? Yeah it's Popeye what did you expect.

  • If Cookie Monster could only have made a cameo in this part. . .

  • This movie is actually very deep. In this song, it's saying everything is food which gives a hint to what the movie is about. Most key figures have names of food like Swee' Pea and Olive Oyl. Popeye's father one time commented on their names by saying it reminded him of a salad. Popeye hates spinach, but it's a key to the characters development. Olive oil goes with sweet peas as well as spinach. By popeye accepting spinach he accepted his destiny to become a complete man and have a family.

  • Thumbs up if you think they should have had Eugene The Jeep in this movie!

  • best freaken movie ever

  • For some reason this was omitted from the original soundtrack album. One of the best.

  • DOUBLE RAINBOW DUDE @ 2:32

  • "Who's buying?"

    "I'm buying, he's paying." :)

  • 7 people are tax men.

  • No 1 can fit this role better than Robin williams

  • Seriously dude, be careful what you put on your feet.

  • The Citizen Kane of the 80's

  • @gooddarkjedi Taxes suck! :)

  • I absolutely love this movie, it was just such an amazing, unique experience.

  • One morning my 1st and 2nd grade boys were really grumpy getting ready for school, so I had an idea. I pulled this video up on the laptop and showed it to them. At first they were like, "What the heck is this?" Then by the end of the song, they were laughing and wide awake. It became a morning tradition to show them clips from Popeye before school.

  • love it

  • The wildman eating the squirrel is the best part. Blink and you'll miss 'im.

  • Wimpy used to have another schtick in the comics. When he'd annoyed everyone so much that they were about to pound him, he'd calm things by inviting everyone over to his place for a roast duck dinner. Then, when he was almost out of earshot, he'd add 'You bring the ducks!'

  • hagrid at 2.33 :)

  • @PissedPlayinPimp Thanks- typo!

  • I found this movie in the bargain bin for 4 bucks at Target, and I must say - this shouldn't at all be in the bargain bin, it's too good of a movie. I saw Robin Williams and I was saying "WTF?! Robin Williams plays POPEYE!!?! This I gotta buy!"

This movie seriously deserves more credit!

  • Those hamburgers have always looked kind of nasty to me. lol

  • @TheAltair4

    Indeed, they look like diarreah

  • Maybe they will make a newer popye movie in the 2010s

  • This has to be one of the dummest movies I ever saw!!! Gos when you're a kid, you like anything. Man this movie was stupid!!!!!!

  • Those hamburgers looked so good.

  • @Linksmashedmyjars And only a nickel, too! Them was the days.... *sigh*

Elzie Segar would be proud of this movie. There's a thousand and one little details in every shot just like his original Thimble Theater comic strip where Popeye got started.

  • haha i loveeee this song!!!!! it's the best! :P

  • 7 people did not pay on Tuesday for a hamburger today.

  • This movie is under rated, and sadly forgotten. It's very funny, and charming. What a fun song!

  • Love this. But the lyrics are incomplete. Thanks!! What a treat!

  • Business is very food, thank you.

  • Everything is food...true indeed..true indeed..

  • "Once it was an animul. Now it walks along with you" X D

  • one of the most underrated movies ever!

  • "Positively NO Credit."

    "That Means YOU Wimpy!"

XD I love that! It's rather obvious, but it just completes the whole scene.

    And what's with the caveman?

  • This is hilarious lmao ..

  • THis song is so laid back. It's like they crossed an island melody with a mariachi band... then bought the players dinner.

  • I watched this movie hundreds of times when I was sprout, watched it again recently and was amazed how brilliant the film it truly is..Robin Williams was/is a genius actor and the writing and dialogue is hilarious..I made my 12 year old neice watch it and she loved it!!!! MB

  • Everything is food, food, food Everything is food to go Everything is food for thought Everything you knead is dough It is food Everything is food Everything is meat, meat, meat Careful what you put on your feet Once it lived on an animal Now it walks along with you It could be food Food, food, food It is food Everything is food Everything is upside down now Everything is sunny side up
  • Eventhough I have a strong affection for this movie, some of the lyrics in the songs are just insane! "Everything is food?" Everything?! What??!

  • For those who like The Dillards, Doug Dillard is the banjo player at about 2:57. He was one of The Darlings on "The Andy Griffith Show".

  • What are the lyrics to the Chow Chow Chow verse? I'm hearing,

    "Everything is chow chow chow

Everything is "food to o" Now

    Everything is fast food chains

    From liver to your sugarcane

    It is food

    Everything is food."

    Is that right?

  • they don't show Popeye give his burger to wimpy

  • This is one of those movies about a cartoon character that they found the right actors to play the characters. Don't see that much anymore. And they even added in characters from the old comic books

  • @clinch44 Yeah it is impressive. What pisses me off is that its so underated and it got bad reviews on IMDB etc. Wonder why? Id love to see more movies done like this, where there is more care than CGI! :) Great original music as well!

  • Heh, I never noticed this before: Popeye's hamburger moos when he picks it up. He mutters something about butchers...

  • this movie is my childhood memories i love it

  • @kjokken0

I was a pre-teen when this movie came out and I enjoyed it too!

  • I just wonder: are the stupid people who didn't iike this video just stupid or is it me? If you don't like something, don't watch it. just keep being stupid.

  • I would gladly pay you in a 1000 years for a hamburger today.

  • TAX GUY IS THE MOST HATED GUY IN THAT VILLAGE.

  • @veeseee128 " That'll be a 25 cent - hating the taxman tax, thankyou.

  • Haha "I will gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today"

  • @dnagrima Mr. Whimpy's famous line.

  • Comment removed

  • does anyone know the link to the full movie?

  • Thanks for putting this up, love this song as well.

  • Thank you so much for posting these clips. I have been taken right back to my childhood! Lots of warm and fuzzies!

  • 1:47 poor guy just wants a drink!

  • My parents took us to see this in the theater and I couldn't follow it or understand what they were saying... i watched it last night with my kids and not only caught every word but thought it brilliant.. they captured the essence of the cartoon.

  • I think if you made prisoners watch this movie in U S jails they'd never commit another crime again when they were released.

  • This is pretty much how my Mom used to describe downtown Portsmouth, NH, in the early 50's.

  • My dad looks like Bluto...

  • Sounds like a fatmans song.

  • Back in the 80's and early 90's most people thought that movie was poor. Though that's a good song.

  • One of the best films ever!

  • After seeing POTC and then coming back and watching this, the guy at the bar who can't seem to get to his drink I can imagine that is Captain Jack Sparrow thanks to the Fountain of Youth. :P

  • one of my all time favorite films,,,,,,truly magical...seen at least 3 times in theaters, at it's time of release (big screen viewing, magnificent)..many more times with kiddos, VHS......could never tire of it.....

  • hmmmmm. america is very anti-tax country. in europe we pay lot more taxes. great movie

  • @gooddarkjedi anti-tax??? where the hell you get that garbage from? these bastards are taxing the middle class out of existence. by 2016 there will only be the super rich and the super poor in america. we will be a third world country! fuck everything! fuck obama! fuck the cfr! fuck the feds! fuck the irs! fuck'em all! bunch of gawdamn devils!

  • How did Bluto get grilled chicken and everyone else had to get a hamburger? Reminds me of the government. They take the juicy stuff for themselves and give us leftovers. Man, I'm getting hungry watching this. Hey, essexboi1993, I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today. LOL.

  • i would gladly pay u uesday for a hamburger today :)

  • Does'nt "Oliver!" have a similar type song?

  • @jasonpp1973

Yes, "Oliver!" has "Food, Glorious, Food" which has a similar theme. It is also about how the rich get all the great food while the orphan boys are stuck with gruel.

  • you this is probably Altman's weakess film but I still enjoy even to this day. I dunno why... guilty pleasure.

  • 1:53 guy at the bar seems to have a drinking problem... ;p

  • Whimpy is my homie!!!!

  • What is the Rap song with the beat that sounds like the words?

  • None of the actors other than Robin wanted to sing in this scene ... it's a bloody musical

  • I wonder why this song isn't on the soundtrack?

  • Wimpy and his crack burgers!!!! "I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today" classic

  • Can we smell Government Bail out?

  • where the full movie all old movies are at youtube but this 1 aint

  • Like this song, can't help but listen to when I turn on my computer, recently just watched the movie again. haven't seen it in liket ten years. It was awesome, just blown away, I was impressed

  • One of the last movies I and my husband went to see at the Drive-In before they closed it. I miss the Drive-In!

  • Robin Williams hated making this film. He has said it is the main reason why he has never directed. He says it would be too awkward to tell another actor who to play a scene.........because he would always imagine the other actor saying "oh yeah! how about Popeye?"

  • bluto look like he bout to kill anybody that would still that turkey leg from him.

  • i use t0 sing this at luch time.

  • One hamburger, chislers tax

  • Wimpys the Man he was either Popeye's or Bluto's sidekick. That guy will do ANYTHING for a burger. What was Bluto eating it look liked a rib or a leg of a large creature? When he grunted it sounded like feeding time at the zoo.

  • I love how Bluto makes beast as he eats!

  • I love this song, too bad they did not include it in the official soundtrack. This film is very underrated!

  • @XXBleedingrose Its underrated cause a lot of people cant notice or appreciate pure genious.

  • @greenkhan Im gonna have to agree 120%.

  • I would gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today

  • @zjbeast One hamburger chiseler tax. :-D

  • The hambuger lover Wimpy, My grandmother says I'm like him (Liking Hamburgers)

  • This movie STILL rocks.

  • Is it just me, or does Paul L. Smith as Bluto remind anybody else of a combination of Mr. T and Isaac Hayes?

  • I agree :D

  • 3:02 i thought wetsel (?) was a ninja.

  • underrated film!

  • it tis foood,... everything is fooood!

  • Never noticed the crazy guy behind the door at -->2:30 !! Seem to remember him in the BG of alot of scenes? Hehe, funny touch.

  • The "Old Guy" is a robin Williams homage to the hermit in Monthy Phyton.

  • 1:02 sounds like the old homer simpson .

  • ...we got stuck with beef-plasma injected soy burgers ahn our last boat. and rabbit once a week. it wuz food...

  • I love the movies soundtracks. Just a classic from my kid days.

  • I don't know what exactly it is, but every song from this movie is oddly depressing. No matter how upbeat or whimsical the song is supposed to be, it sounds like it's better suited for a funeral.

  • lol .... u kind of make a point.

  • One thing always stand out about this film... it has an anti-tax theme throughout...tthat was the public sentiment at the time... we were in a bad economy, high inflation and we were sick of taxes.. shortly afterwards, taxes were cut.. maybe some politicians watched this movie and decided to be like Popeye

  • I think this movie has a lot of interesting themes and sub-texts throughout. Artistically this is a winner - one day movies will have their own branch of semiotics study, I do hope and pray. From what I can remember it was a bomb at the box office, and I can see why - there's too much going on for casual viewing.

  • it was actually a finacial success acording to Wiki.

  • I guess I remember it wrong - I was 7 at the time, so I could be wrong.

  • Yeah, the movie made back double the budget ($50 Million Gross, $25 Million Dollar Budget) and it is the 2nd highest grossing Robert Altman movie of all time behind M*A*S*H*

  • ah cool - did not know that, I stand corrected, the movie was not a bomb. thank you, now go wait on the roof for the keymaster :)

  • @jumbles1957 thats 50 cent observation tax! 25 cent Commenting tax! 10 cent thinking tax!

  • @jumbles1957

knowing the intllect level of average politican, they probably just thought Popeye was real ang got scared

  • @jumbles1957 But, the US went into an economic recession one year after the movie came out. It was almost as bad as the current recession!

  • @jumbles1957 I will never look at Reagan the same way again. :)

  • @jumbles1957

This is a very interesting way of looking at this movie in general and its effects on capitalism in general! Good thinking my friend!

  • @jumbles1957 /Rolleyes does everything have to be made political?

  • whats funny though is how they really looked at us when we got angry over taxes, because they were taxing their own people back on the mainland almost 3times the amount we were. .. (speaking of before the tea party) they seen us as winy lil people lol

  • I love this movie and this is my favorite song from the movie....

  • One thing important that was missing from the film that was always in the cartoon. When popeye finally beats bluto or brutus, "The Stars and Stripes Forever" plays boldy.

  • yes well the movie is based on the daily comic strip, not the cartoon.

  • Wimpy is so slick look at the way he steals poppeys food.

  • I can watch this movie over and over again. I loved it as a child and as an adult. I can't believe it's been almost 30 yrs since I first saw it. Time flies!

  • According to an article on wikipedia, Harry Knowles of "Ain't It Cool News" revealed that during a discussion with Robert Evans, Evans revealed to him that he's been sitting on a THREE HOUR VERSION of this film, with was supposedly Robert Altman's TRUE vision! Don't know how true this is, as I don't trust either wikipedia, or Knowles, but as a student of film, I always sensed that this movie was cut down from a longer version. Let's keep our fingers crossed!!!

  • three hours!! DAMN IT EVANS!! RELEASE IT ALREADY YOU FREAK!

  • actually one hamburger with mustard chislers tax

  • Comment removed

  • i cant give you tuesday for a copy of the soundtrack but should we say 3.50 delivered 2nd class to my british address? get in touch....

  • this is one of my favorite tunes...i think tom waits could do a killer version of this.

  • indeed he would!

  • So true! A clacked-out version of this would be great!

  • se mi dai un panino oggi te lo pago martedi!

  • one hamburger what tax

  • Comment removed

  • thank you for clearing that up

  • I want to live in Sweethaven.

  • AWESOME!

Havent' seen this in 20+ years!...since I was messing my pants. BRINGS BACK SO MANY MEMORIES! Even the way that guy yells in time when he burns his hand at 1:11

This movie is so tweaked out! I love it!

  • Don't you have to love the look on Popeye's face, when the waitress brings the hamburger to his table, and I bet he is either thinking "what is this, when do I order a hamburger?", or any way that you can put it. Then I think he realizes that it is for Whimpy.

  • I like this scene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for posting this!! Everytime this movie I always check to see if I've missed this song.

  • This is a true American classic as well as a great 80s film. I first saw this film about 1982 or 83. It is definitely one I remember fondly and would love to get on DVD some time, if I can find a copy that is.

  • I found my copy at wal-mart a little bit back you might be able to order it from them online if you can't find it at there store ; )

  • LMAO! The dude in the chair!!

  • if only the world was like this in real life!!!

  • everytime i see a musical, i say the same thing. "wouldn't this world be better if everyone just randomly broke into song and well coriographed dance?"

  • Yeah that would be interesting to live like these people do and the odd things they do:)

  • "One Hamburger Chiseler's Tax."

  • I think you owe me an apology..

  • I love this part of the movie. I really dig the Vaudville aspect of the entire film!!

  • i love this movie , but that tax guy always annoyed the crap out of me

  • Wimpy loves his hamburgers and apparently so does that taxman. And Bluto is digging the ribs. And all the singers are right. Everything really is food especially in that place.

  • One of my teachers made us watch this in health class!!! xD

  • haha my science teacher plays this in our class just cause he loves it
