  • did u rebuilt that lt1 in ur kitchen ?

  • its alive! lol

  • Do u have a FB? i recently bought a LT1 350 came out of a 95 Roadmaster and i am putting it on a 1982 Olds Cuttlass i want to go with carb and headers but ppl tell me that i dont need to rebuild it since it had 127k on it and for me to not waste my time and money what do u think? i kinda want to spend the money just so that i can know i have a some what new motor u know? i havent ever rebuild a motor but i would love to but I dont even know what to buy first. btw i like both videos good job!

  • Looks awesome man. I'm glad when you had the engine and the rest of those car parts out of your kitchen weren't you? At least I'm sure your wife was happy :P I'm thinking about dropping in an LT1 in my 85 Caprice wagon. I want to stay carb'd though. How cheap was everything?

  • Was it a 383 kit, or did you buy the parts separately? I am seriously thinking about doing just the 383 stroker but I am having a difficult time finding one as a kit.

  • Wow I was amaze I have a 1997 Z28 and man I have a lot of question and you the guy to talk to after that please give me a call or text (609)865-1825

  • Blowmaster? And that cast crank will fuck u up

  • That lt1 is a beast

  • Why slowmaster?

  • i like da video

  • Why'd you go with 2 bolt mains on a 383 stroker? wouldnt a 4 bolt main have been a better choice?

  • what is the name to this song

  • I just got a 1993 silverado that has the vetts LT1 in it with the new vett tranny. It is one wicked enigne for a silverado and will sure throw you back in the seat. I plan on one day boring it out and having it rebuilt like you did. I like the orange lol. How many horese was yours pushing?

  • thumbs up for the kitchen pics...That's pretty good work considering your limited work areas consist of a driveway and the kitchen, awesome man...

  • i was gonna turn my LT1 into a LT4 you think i should of just buy an LS1

  • were did u go to school????? i go to school but i dont learn anything like that did u go to UTI?????

  • @powayflores13

I went to Lakeshore Technical College in Wisconsin and I am ASE Certified. BUT, I didn't learn everything I needed to know for this project. We did rebuild one engine in school but it was by the books, using all stock parts = easy. The difficult part is was deciding on compression, understanding static and dynamic compression, factoring in head gasket thickness, head CC, piston dome volume, ect.. Just did my research online and it all come together :-)

  • @ENRKyle20 does being ase certified mean u make more money

  • @ENRKyle20

    damn man im not far away at all from LTC!!! i went to NWTC tho, bit of a clash there haha. we gotta meet up i need to see this thing in person. i live in menasha. hit me up 0 3 i m p a l a 9 c 1 @ g m a i l . c o m

  • how much for just the engine parts?

  • @dopephat

forgot to add throttle body, valve covers, SLP intake, headers, exhaust, roller rockers, pushrods, lifters.. I would estimate about $4500 into the engine alone

  • i used 5.7 rods and def need modification. there is a b4 and after pic in vid

  • hey man, when you grinded for clearance is that only for a 6" rod or do you still have to grind with a 5.7" rod?? Im building a 383 stroker LT1 and ive got everything i need just havnt put it all together yet. any tips???

  • ha ha victor reinz stuff :D

  • 1:55

I will leave cuz of the music. Its annoying as hell

  • good work bro u did awesome on the build

  • I love how you were rebuilding the tranny on the kitchen table lol good work!

  • i've built engines in the past and put about 60,000 miles on both of them, i BROKE IN both motors by not leaving the revs at any one rpm very long howerver i did go up as far as 5,500 rpms many times for about 15 minutes, then i drove both cars hard and still do, 84Monte Carlo ss 355 bbc 200 shot of nitrous and a 74 NOVA 350 sbc full build up.

  • how much did it cost to reprogram your computer? or did you find away around it?

  • you rev it at first start!

no need to break in the engine???

  • @al3id

Breakin is a joke. My instructor taught us to drive it how it will be driven every day. I have over 10,000 on this engine with no problems at all. I was not wicked hard on it but i was not easy on it either. I don't know what to believe, there is so many opinions about break in. I just drive it. lol and it works!

I do know that its not good to use full synthetic for the first 2,000 miles because its so slipery that it will never "break in".

  • @ENRKyle20 Some guys just leave the motor idle for 12 hours.i read before in old book (how to rebulid sbc) to drive it first 500 mile gentley then retorque the heads bolts.then 2000 miles drive it normally but no abuse .that this process for long engine life.thats what was writen.

  • @ENRKyle20

The point of the "break in" is to make sure the rings are fully seated preventing blow by. So it is important and NOT a joke.

  • Awesome vid. But please change the music lol

  • I lol'd when I saw the motor coming up to the door step!...funny! LE2 though... I bet that thing runs good! Nice job on the build too looks great!

  • nice work!

  • straight talk here did u have to take out a bank loan to fund the mods?

  • everyone builds engines in their houses if you dont have a workshop, the kitchen is usually the best because there is always a work bench and plenty of knives in the draw to come up with imaginative ways of using them for tools when you cant find that scraper.i think we are all a hell of alot similar than we think

  • I hople I'll be able to tear an engine down one day and rebuild it

  • damn i thought i was the only one that kept my crank and heads in my laundry room . and my wife gets real bitchy when my torque wench clicks to loud wile she`s watching american idle. yall think im shitin

  • great car but the music makes me want to shoot myself.

  • lol. Couldn't agree more. It sounded good at the time but its SO repetitive. But the video is in sync with it so I will just leave it. :-)

  • how much did you wast on it?

  • $6,300 In Modifications

    $4,200 for the car itself

  • @thebosstx

The most expensive was the heads, cam, and intake manifold porting from Loyd Elliot. That was $2500, The crank, rods, bearings, and pistons were about $800. Other engine parts like gaskets and freeze plugs, spark plugs, wires, exc. were about $150. Block prep (cleaning, bore, hone) was $400.

  • YOU DID A GREAT JOB.

  • damn sick

  • annoying music with all the click click

  • so could u do the clearence ur self like with a drimal? what crank and piston rods should i look for on summit racing or jegs

  • I clearenced mine with a old dremel tool. You need about a paperclips width of clearence between the rod bolt and the block. I put a little extra to be safe, but dont go TO deep because you will hit coolant if you go TOO deep.

crank rods and pistons are basicly up to you. This is a budged build I did. I got the crank, pistons, rods, bearing, and rings for $800 on ebay. the crank is NOT forged and that is one thing I would change if I did it again. I am over the cranks raited HP right now.

  • is the crank to the block the only clearance problem ill have? i herd of some1 having to grind the piston rods down

  • Yes the only clearance problem was the crank to the block. Make sure to get a kit that allows a standard cam. If you don't you will either needs to get a small base circle cam or play with with the pistons. I don't recommend that as it throws off the balance.

  • this is a sick vidoe nice job!! i just got a LT1 and got it all tor down and im ready to have it machined but i want to make it into a 383 stroker could u tell me whats the dfiferents as far as internals?

  • to make it a 383 you will need to bore 30 over. and use a stroker crank and rods. the rods are shorter so the piston will not smash into the heads and it sucks the piston down farther making it a longer stroke wich means more CI.

so the ONLY diffrence between a 355CI and a 383 is the crank, rods, and pistons. its esencially the same price as a 355 rebuild. the only other difrence is u have to do some clearencing on the block as u can see 1:44

  • "you might be a redneck..." haha! i rebuilt my motorcycle in my kitchen... i had to get the whole bike up a flight of steps and into the kitchen to do it because it was snowing outside!

don't forget to let the engine break-in at idle for at LEAST 20 minutes before revving it up! still, i'm really surprised at how quickly and easily that thing started up!

  • Holy shyt people. Flowmaster SUCKS. Big time. I was happy with my car with the Flowmaster exhaust. Felt powerful and fast, sounded good. BUT today I decided to take the Y Pipe off and run open header and boy was I in for a surprise. Its like a whole new car. I would estimate 30-50HP gains or more. I have a grin on my face after that. Lucky I have a SLP Loudmouth setup I will put on. Damn I cant believe how much it was holding me back!!

  • Sweet ride dude. hey can you tell Dawn to call me? Thanks

  • ...your my goddamn hero lol no homo or anything. Lets see that kill sum mustangs :)

  • nice work man! now tell me where you live so you can do mine as well, lol.

  • good job

  • my favorite part is at 1:00

  • Take off that flowmaster garbage and get true duels with bullets

  • this guy did it in his kitchen.

    nice video tho

  • Let me guess, during that first start up w/ no tune the "Check Engine" light came on? LOL

    Awesome vid dude. Have fun.

  • also. I did the clearencing with a dremel tool., that would have been an aditional $100 or so.

  • the car looks better and better everytime i see this video.

  • how much you spend on engine machining?

  • $125 to Clean the block (I paid for the best cleaning they had, I wanted all the rust off)

    $40 to Magnaflux the block

    $110 to Bore .030"

    $75 to Deck the block

So about $350-$400. I also had them check the line bore - that was another $20 or so.

  • What ecu is that in the video the MCS?

  • I am using the stock OBDI ECU for this car, Self tuned using C.A.T.S Tuner. You are refering to the unit pictured 4:00 into the video that says MCS on it. MCS stands for Mobile Computing Sulutions. All that is is a P4 comuter running widows XP pro and Cats Tuner, its hooked to the stock ECU threw the OBDI port in the car. There is a 7" touch screen in the dash and it operated like any normal computer, but made for a car.

  • THE Computer For the car is now for sale on ebay. I took a video showing its operation, its prety slick.

  • Comment removed

  • How much did u end up spending on the whole project?

  • I would estimate rigth around $10,500 total including the car it self wich was $4,200.

  • sweet video. what song is this?

  • Thanks for the comment. Please Vote also.

The song is the instrumental to "Its Me Bitches" by Swizz Beats. Type it into youtube and it will come up!

  • Nice! Where did you get the valve covers from?

  • thanx for all your advice man im out in Iraq right now im just getting all the advice i can get and searching up pricing to get everything done once i get back its game on man if theres anything else man just let me know i really appreciate this ill prolly hit you up again if you dont mind once i start here in a couple months thanx for the help bro

  • hey im about to do the same 383 LE2 work on my Formula this is a great video man that thing sounds mean is there any advice you could give me bro

  • Well. Fist, Its DEFINATLY worth your while to pickup the "How To Rebuilt LT1/LT4" book. I didnt think I needed it but there was 2 or three things that I really did need out of there (Such As Cam Bearing Oil Feel Hole Orientation, Torque Specs, Ect.). Its only $15 or so shipped. Dont Skimp on that.

Next, Do your research on clearenching the block for the 3.75" Storke. Measure all clearence MANY times. And dont skimp on the machine shop work. Bore, Hone, Get The Line Bore Checked, Magnaflux

  • And the last tip, is one that it currently biting me in the butt. On the box for the ARP rod Bolts it said to torque to 44ft lbb with arp moly lube. WELL, I did just that.. now one of them is backing off and starting hot the block. I found out I torqued them wrong. there is a sequence of torquing and backing off to stretch the bolts that I didnt do. now I need to pull the oil pan and re torque them correctly. wich is not easy to do in the car. I am puttin it away this year.

  • U did a great job congrats! I too just finished building my forged 355 lt1 about a month ago and I spent over 4 grand on just the motor and its still not running ! Lt1's rule !

  • congrats.. yea, it adds up FAST.. hope you get to enjoy it a bit b4 the seasin is over. good luck. thanks for the comment.

  • You're not married... are you? My mom blew a gasket when she found the transmission case from my corvette in her bath tub. I can only imagine her response to building my engine in the kitchen. She had a hard enough time with having my 4l60e being assembled in my bedroom!

  • lmao... nope im not married. but yea if I didnt live alone i never would have done it. im sure it would not be apreciated. thanks for the coment.

  • holy shit, nice build i finished my first lt1about a month ago. i see you had a bigger budget than i did. hahaha. but are you driving it hard yet? how many miles do you recomend before i start driving it like a Z?

  • Well, I would say run NON synthetic oil and be semi nice for 1000 miles. with a few quick WOT for a few seconds here and there. then run fully synthetic and drive it like you stole it!.. just remember, synthetic oil on breaking is a no no.. have fun!!

  • i have about 700 now. i have been using mobil clean 5000. and will switch to mobil 1 when 1k comes along. thanks for the tips.

  • that sounds fucking amazing! how much did all this run ya?

  • Thanks for the comment.. It does sound prety sweet. The LT1 has a nice old muscle car V8 sound to it while the LS1 changed firing order redusing stress on the crank but making it sound much diffrent.

Including the car itsled About $10,500 total, not bad for a 11 second car with a brand new motor. $6,700 in modifications.

    (im sure I forgot things)

  • Those are just some aftermarket chrome valve covers with a GM sticker. I think it adds a nice touch.

    Thanks for the comment!

  • whered you get those valve covers that say gm on them?

    and nice
