Hey, i would like to thank you for this great video! I own a 7811fx, and its a great machine! This video gaves me strength enough to do this upgrade, at least with less fear. May i ask you something? Have you changed Bios version or not? If not...do you think it worth the try? And what about changing to Windows 7, do you think it worth? Thank you very much.
This was a great video series (part1 &2) - I wasn't sure how far I would have to tear the laptop down to get the heatsink out and the trick screw on the CPU socket. I am a server/desktop guy and your help was invaluable. I was able to use this to upgrade the CPU on my E-475M (to a T7700) Thank you!

hi there nice video! please can you tell me if i will get the x9100 can oveerclock on my asus g72gx-rbbx05,best buy version? or just try the t9900 100% mine came with p8700 2.53ghz. thank so much
@rocco9393 You can overclock an X9100 in your laptop. You have to use the program called 'Throttlestop' in order to be able to modify the Vcore and the multiplier from within windows. No need for BIOS support :) w00t
@Javbuff2008 I have the gateway p-7908fx and it handles all of those fine. The only difference id the gtx 260m in my computer is slightly faster than the gts 9800m in that computer. If you want to see how it handles crysis warhead on max check out my channel
@Javbuff2008 my p7805u (same as 7815) with 9800m gts 1gb and a T9900 handles all of the games you have listed like a champ. Was thinking of getting a desktop recently but then realized that Fallout New Vegas runs at 60 fps @ 1920x1080 4x AA and very high settings. Rather save the cash and get a nice 3D projector and a nice set of Nvidia 3d glasses :P
What kind of perf improvement did you get - specifically 3dmark or similar benchmark. I'm sitting at 9500 3dmark points and play ARMA2, I know I'm bottlenecked with the CPU but looking for a ball park improvement. 800points?
Gaming relies much more on the GPU than the CPU.......but during my testing the T9900 gave my notebook a noticeable boost. The T9600 should work fine, and should give you a decent overall system boost.
1. Should be the same for the 7801. No one has commented on differences at NBR.
2. check the INTEL compatibility list, and match it up against the notebook specs.
3. I really recommend ICD7 when it comes to the thermal paste, best stuff out there. Between replacing the thermal compound and using CPUGenie to undervolt the notebook, you should see a dramatic drop in temperatures.
The chassis is actually a budget Acer chassis. As far as the wattage, its mainly based on the CPU that comes included, the operating temperature rangwe, and the hsf size (which is pretty damn small if you pull the notebook apart.
Head over to Notebook Reviews, in the Gatewqay forum the 7811/7801/7805 are well discussed......and there are a handful of users who have the X9100 which works fine with the Gateways, though the temps are fairly high....kjust undervolt your CPU.
Yes an X9100 will work, but I recommend against it. The P7811 is set up for a 25W processor, and the X9100 is a 45W processor, which is really pushing the envelope.
I'd recommend looking at a T9800 or T9900, both of which are 35W processors that offer pretty much the same performance as the X9100, while generating much less heat.
Regardlwess of the processor chosen, you can use CPUGenie to lower the CPU voltage, which will make your notebook run cooler, and also extend the battery life.
Thanx 4 the feedback, but the one I have is actually the p7801, which is the earlier model, not that they are any different.
I did however look at intel's website and they have a "Valid combination list" which lists the x9100 with the pm45 as valid.
I just wanted to know how did you figure out the wattage this laptop outputs for the CPU? And if I replaced the battery or AC adapter wouldn't that provide enough power ?
and what performance boost can it give?if it is installed?since i have a 7805 and that is clocked at 2.26ghz will 2.8 ghz help in gaming?any replies would be appreciated.:)
A lot of newer games require a minimum of around 2.0GHz dual core and up so 2.26 is enough but not enough for say running Dragon Age at 1920 x 1200 with more than 15-20FPS in detailed areas. I think the cpu will make a noticable difference as it is %20 faster and %20 will make for some headroom as opposed to somewhat choppy in high action areas.
@beefyson my T9900 handles DAO like a pro, the game runs @ at a smooth 35 fps average even in high detailed areas only dropping to 30 in the lowest. Run the game @1920x1200 4x aa max settings... love the game :)

Just wondering what an adequate replacement for Arctic Silver would be.
I just ordered a new x9100 and don't have any cleaner available

@Capper5016 whats a GPU?
collinnc2001 2 years ago
@collinnc2001 GPU is the graphic processing unit, and the CPU is the Central Processing Unit

1) Would this be the same for a 7805?
2) What do you have to look for to match the cpu? Or make sure it's compatible?
3)Would it help at all to take my current cpu and apply thermal grease?
