this concept would work really nice if you were making the gas next to your garage and then pump it into your car safely. making the gas off a battery in a car while driving isn't very efficient.
very nice though, I would use at least a hundred or so stainless steel fine screens in parallel and use my house hold current to generate my hydrogen for my own station.
Very good. How about putting nuetral plates inbetween each of the pos & neg plates ? I've found it lowers the amp draw and increases output by 20%. Also going with distilled water (a none conductive clean slate to start with) and then adding in about 1/4 to 1/2 teaspn of sodium hydroxide as an ionizer (better than baking soda), if you use more than that: she will boil over in the long run. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. Paul
Come on guys, you all should now by now that the term "fuel cell" is a generic term for hydrogen generator even if it isn't one. Everyone on these posts for this subject are so quick to flash their superiority complex. gheesh
Good point mechanized331, but you also have to consider all the fake vids and purposeful ambiguity. It makes a lot of people fed up with the gibberish and diversion from what is becoming an ever more explored subject that peopel really want to know about and use. It should be taken seriously, technical language is revealing, it's in the detail where we might discover something new.
After a while of running that, try lighting the water on fire. You should be ending up with Sodium Hydroxy and some sort of Hydrocarbon.... it might just burn. Collect the gas your making and see how much CO2 you're making and definitely don't drink the water nor should you feed it to your marigold's. If the water burns, test the byproduct or CO2.
Meatball, you have an eletro-plating system, not a hydrogen cell. Electroplating inherently makes hydrogen....meatball....wake up. In a few weeks you will have a bunch of fat positive plates and NO negative plates....then what? Eh?
I am building a unit with 304 stainless plates.I have read that for optimum generation a gap of .048"-.063" is required. I plan on selling the plates already to assemble and fit in a Qt canning jar.(cutting stainless is a bitch)then i found an article saying that using stainless produces hexavalent chromium in the electrolyte which causes cancer and is considered extremely deadly to internal organs! have you investigated this seriuos possibility?
Everyone is right as you know its a hydrogen generator,A few things that might help you,First + plates make hydrogen -plates make oxy.Drill holes into the +plates for more hydrogen.Use straps instead of wires for connectors. Finally use sandpaper and rough the surface of each plate. Then soak plates overnite in electrolite solution, then put it all together and watch the difference, btw lye works alot better than salt. The unit you have doesn't make very much hydrogen at all.Output could be better!
this is not a fuel cell this is like a Joe cell a fuel cell turns hydrogen into electricity by bonding it to oxygen and catching the electrons during the process you could modify it to make hydrogen for a fuel cell
please shed some light on catch back fire switch (how to make it) or is it available from market ? i want safety first thn to use this system in my car.
i m still confussed , please guide me , will we use this charged water as fuel OR will collect the emitted hydrogen in a tank and thn will use that GAS as fuel in car etc ?
you will put the hydro that comes off this in another container called a bubbler toward the bottom (it being filled with water) so the true gas comes bubbling up to the top of the bubbler, collect it and run it in to your carb or throttle body it will mix with your reg fuel lean your car out to gain mpg. So far ive only produced hydrogen from the cell to the bubbler. which be real carful not to play with it because it is very explosive.. Hope this helps..
In your video, you call this a hydrogen fuel cell. This is a five plate, single cell, electrolysis unit. A hydrogen fuel cell uses platinum (Permeable to protons and not electrons) to recombine hydrogen and oxygen to create an electric current. It is, in fact, the opposite of what you are doing here. By the way, I have found that it is very hard to get any increased mpg or horsepower when supplementing less than 1.5 liters per minute. I don't think you are quite there yet, but keep trying.
In addition, there should be no wires or soldering, or twist connectors inside the fuel cell. This on-board production usually uses no storage tank. Check many You-Tube--entries. You will see better and better designs as you search.
You can make a lot of hydrogen gas from water. 1 liter = 1000ml correct? Anyways water has a weight of 1 gram per ml of water. So there would be 1000grams of water. The molar mass of water is 18grams per mol. 1 mol of any sort of gas equals 22.4 liters of gas. So with some easy math 1 liter of water equals 138 liters of hydrogen gas (hydrogen in H2O takes up 2/18 of the weight of it). So if your running 1 liter per minute of hydrogen, 1 liter of water will last over 2 hours.
how many amps does this unit draw? Are you in anyway restricting the amp flow and stepping up the voltage? Just curious cuz someone mentioned a heat issue.
Separating hydrogen and oxygen from water is nothing new, getting more energy from it than you put into it is the problem, which no video I've seen so far even addresses.
My son and I did this type of thing for his 6th grade Science project. We live near the west coast... so I went to the ocean and got a gallon of sea water. holly crap! It produced sooo much gas it was scary... it oxidized (rusted)the plates and started to smoke the wires. What a difference over tap water. By the way this is not a Fuel Cell its an electrolizer. the opposite of a Fuel Cell nice vid nontheless.!!
Question: Does this mean fuel cells work both ways? You call this a fuel cell but it's obviously producing hydrogen from electricity, rather than electricity from hydrogen. If you took it out of the water and placed it in a chamber of hydrogen, would it produce electricity?
I used a wide mouth kerr glass jar and stainless steel "locking wire" from Harbor Freight Tools, wrapped around a plexiglass "tower" inside the jar. All my stuff was purchased at walmart, Orchard Supply and Hardware, Harbor Freight, and Autozone. I used 1 T pure baking soda instead of salt. Check valves and bubbler stones are found at walmart in pet/fish dept. I ported/Teed the HHO into the PVC hose which sucked it into the base of carb., but will add a brass barb port to air intake as well.
I installed one HHO generator in my Pontiac Grand Am yesterday and took it for a spin... it works! There was an immediate power gain and smoothing. Took it out on the freeway and noticed some pinging at first, but it's smoothing out more and more. Will add another jar to double HHO output and see what happens. Don't have hard MPG measurements yet.
Out of curiosity... Hydrogen is released but where does the Oxygen molecules go? I'm trying to figure how electricity or (free electrons) do the whole process. Cool video.
the oxygen comes off at the positive anode and the hydrogen at the negative you cant see the splitting in this vid. note don't use salt at all as its not oxygen emitted on the anode its chlorine salt is sodium chloride and it reacts with the oxygen making chlorine which is emitted use a higher voltage see if that works instead maybe wire a ignition coil and feed it with your PWM to trigger fast bursts of very high voltage not current just a idea
just search on youtube filipino inventor & look for Daniel Dingels. He is the first guy invented the water car fuel cell. He invented his product more than 30 years ago. Even a german & japan car manufacturers went to the philippines to buy his invention.
simply remove the gas fuel line and replace with hydrogen cell fuel line..It is sent into the carb/fuel injection burned within the bore(just like gas would) pushing the piston down...and it does work! (more efficent even) no water found in oil..
Bah you said Hydrogen Fuel Cell on your vid title. So I thought I was going to see a PEM Fuel Cell generating electricity from hydrogen. What you have there is a Water electrolosys cell producing hyrdogen.
theres a theory that hydrogen leaves a water residue when burned. This in turn slips past the pistons causing corrosion. To run hydrogen through a common car would involve having everything stainless steel..
actually... hydrogen turns to water in the exhaust...once it combines with the oxygen after the combustion process. People have been doing this for decades, and I haven't heard of any major issues
actually, combustion is the process of elements reacting with oxygen. Take methane for example: it's got carbon and hydrogen atoms. They combust, and the hydrogen+oxygen=H2O. Carbon+oxygen=CO2 It makes water vapor when it combusts.
That's NOT a fuel cell. That's just a simple electrolytic cell. We did this in grade school science class. Michael Faraday did it about a hundred years ago.
This REQUIRES power to work. It is not a source of power.
So these plates are the guts of what you are running in your car?

12amps might be a pull on the alternator but not much. Well... salt has it's downsides as I learned. Salt = NaCl. When you electrolisize water with salt, the Na and Cl separate, and the Cl precipitates into a gas which is lethal in certain concentrations.
... and VERY corrosive in almost any concentration. But it doesn't "precipitate" it evolves into Cl2. Precipitation refers to solids coming out of solution.
Very clever construction! By the way, how much voltage and current are you applying? That was a pretty fast reaction. Sad that you unplugged it! :) PS. thanks for posting this as a response to my video. I am still trying to figure out how to accept it.

A hydrogen fuel cell uses up hydrogen to produce electricity.

Well... salt has it's downsides as I learned. Salt = NaCl. When you electrolisize water with salt, the Na and Cl separate, and the Cl precipitates into a gas which is lethal in certain concentrations.

This is just a couple sprinkles of sea salt.. Hardly any but it made the difference in the hydrogen production.

... and VERY corrosive in almost any concentration.
