  • The best Ever!!!

  • Bravo!!

  • I always waffle between Bastianini and Warren for my favorite Rigoletto... Simply profound singing!

  • anything he sang, made it the best rendition.. BASTIANINI!!!

  • Best Bass Baritone voice ever!!!

  • Bellezza pura.

  • Lovely singing. TY Dobri for sharing and OperaDaddy for posting.

  • @hopelesslyderanged Roger that!

Come interprete: grande!

  • To all of you who speaks bad about Leo Nucci--you should be ashamed of yourselves! He's not a tenor who sings bartone roles but a baritone capable of high, brilliant notes! He's a great actor, and his voice is fantastically rich and sonmorous!

  • @vilabreze I don't mind higher-voiced, modern Rigolettos--Bruson is one of my favorites--but I find Nucci's voice quite simply ugly, and he's overrated as an actor, as well. Why should we be ashamed of our opinions?

  • @90lysander

Everyone has their preferences but nobody has the right to speak badly about established brilliant stars on the opera sky such as Leo Nucci.

  • @vilabreze Ah, so popularity and "being established" is everything, is it?

  • @90lysander I certainly agree with you regarding Nucci. Can't believe that anyone could consider this singer, who forces his underwhelming voice so mercilessly, in the same class as Warren, Bastiannini, MacNeil, Stracciarri, Ruffo, etc. --

Giovanni Lo Scocco

  • What an expression, what an instrument! Ettore Bastianini is in the pantheon of the most great opera singers.

  • His voice was beyond human! A voice like his...one in a century.

  • I respect your opinion Lordofthetrapdoors, but... even in video, bastianini is greater than nucci (who i have seen live) as an actor and definitely as a singer. nucci is really at his best when he sings arbace in idomeneo recording with pavarotti. after that he isn't much of a baritone and well it's not impressive to hear tenors singing baritone. bastianini, on the other hand, with all his flaws, superior actor and singer. magnificent simply.

  • questo é l´uragano!!!

  • I thing the best rigolleto is Nicolae Herlea , listen his voice

  • Harlea was great indeed. I cannot say who is the best.

    Both of them are great

  • DinDonDan94 - Se hai 15 anni, bravo,ti saluto e ti dico: SEI TU CHI HA LE PALLE,BRAVO !!! CON IL TUO BELLO CARATTERE FARAI GRANDISSIME COSE COME CANTANTE !!!SE SEI ITALIANO,TROVATI UN PROFESSORE DI CANTO IMPARA BENE E "IN BOCCA AL LUPO "!!! BRAVO,CON AMICIZIA !!!

  • Oggi BASTIANINI canterebbe come BASSO !!! SUBLIME ARTISTA !!!! IMMENSO !!! IMMORTALE !!!

I miei saluti.

  • You know when I first read this, i thought to myself " what a smart ass". I went and found Irwin Schrott videos. That guy is damned good I have ahve to admit :) I am still an Ettore Bastianini Fan :)

  • I just found out about this guy this weekend and I love what I have learned

  • Tks for posting! I'd like to hear the Toreador Song with Bastianini. Is it anywhere on YT pls?

I think E.B. is the only batitone hitting Tito Gobbi (vocally). I don't know about his dramatic art.

  • BRAVO!? The best in Barbiere di Siviglia!!

  • this is perfect I think. Aligned with the real old tradition of Italian baritones as opposed to the newer crop of Warren and Merrill. a voice capable of passion and nothing less. astounding

  • Bastianini was, is and will be one of the best!!!

  • AWESOME MUSIC!!!! 5*****

  • Incomparable! Bravo! TY.

  • You know what I love about this recording, of course in the beginning his middle and upper register sound amazing, after all the work he did on his technique, (atleast from what i've read) but in the second part of the song, when he drops into his lower register, you can almost see some of his older bass habits cme out of his voice with the colour,i wouldn't say its a bad thing, just really neat.

  • This recording is amazing, I only regret not falling upon this voice earlier. Wow.

  • joana: Thanks for mentioning Sardinero. I heard him years ago in Lucia and he was fabulous. He made a very fine recording of Lucia as well. I believe Caballe was the Lucia on that recording. He can also be heard on a recording of Puccini's Edgar with Bergonzi and his singing of "questo amor" is gorgeous.

  • Grande Baritono!

  • We had in Spain a bariton with the same colour of voice,Vincenzo Sardinero. He died 4 years ago

I kneww Ettore and Vincenzo and believe me they were similar.

! !E il suo...

  • the greatest baritone of the world.. thats it. cappucilli second and nucii thirth...

  • Leo Nucci? I agree with Cappuccilli and Bastianini, but Nucci - although a very fine singer, was not blessed with the same caliber of voice. Just my opinion.

  • Nucci was different voice... Cappuccilli and Bastianini were the best baritones in dramatical roles... The best in all history up to know... Great performance!

  • I agree that nucci is different. far more an example of a big lyrical voice that grew into dramatic roles rather than being born with it. still a good example for singers on how to grow into roles.

  • I'm agree with you!!!

  • I hear a BUNCH of Bastianini in Dmitri Hvorostovsky. Or, to be historically correct, Hvorostovsky in Bastianini. Very similar vocal quality, and inflections as well. Listening to this is like going to baritone school....wow!!!

  • I know I'm a coupla years late, but it would have to be some of bastianini's sound in hvorostovsky, since B came well before H, yes? Also, the thing that for me separates the two, besides the sizes of their voices, is the level of openness and 'cut' in Bastianini's sound, which balances his natural darkness. A magical voice!

  • I agree with you. Hvorostovsky's top is also a little dry at times. EB wasn't a high note baritone, but his top is great.

  • Remember that Bastianini started singing as a bass...

  • @inrharmony Their voices are absolutely nothing alike...

  • Look for Nicolae Herlea and you will see the bastianini "brother"

  • You are absolutely right !

  • Rimanera per sempre!!!!

  • propio cosi!

  • What a gorgeous voice. He loved singing so much that he cut his life short. What a brave act, despite the tragedy behind it. What a man and singer.

  • Voice of bronze and velvet - unique. God bless you

  • Not just a rich voice,but big heart!!!Thank you very,very much!Exellent!

  • You are absolutely right; he was not only "exceptional "as an Artist but also as an Human Beeing.Thank you for your comment.

  • I agree with mrrk - What a voice, he died so young.

Rich tone. If you own La Forza from Naples with Tebaldi, he is great in that opera.

  • He was really singing fantastic here but if you like great baritone voices search for Leonard Warren his my favourite!

  • Ettore Bastianini had the greatest baritone sound around- well there's only one other I can think of whose sounds were as stunning- Robert Merrill. Bravo for this clip!

  • Che meraviglia, addio Ettore... vivrai nel mio cuore fin che l'anima mia sia chiamata a vagare nell'etere. you will live in my heart end that the spirit mine is called to ramble in the ether. (excuse my english)

  • Our dearest Ettore is really in our hearts, breathing and living through the emotions his voice is able to convey. The most endearing singer I ever heard off, Kathleen Ferrier and Mado Robin alongside. Bastianini was a shy, sympathetic and utterly sensitive man: he had to suffer so much trials that I think he lived more than a life, as stated on his grave in Siena. He is the first baryton I listened to on a record (Traviata at la Scala, 1955), and that makes my affection towards him greater.

  • A tragedy that this great voice was cut short!!!

  • What a voice. Amazing
