@andarks Most wasabi that you find at sushi restaraunts or bars that are relatively cheap is just a cheap imitation wasabi. Made from horse radish and colored green. Wasabi is actually pretty expensive and can cost an upwards of $60+ per pound so it isnt used much X_X.

And not to mention if you want it the right way it has to be grated with a shark fin.

Either way in most joints you wont find wasabi. just colored paste horse radish.

I eat alot of spicy food and I never once thought Wasabi had spice in it.. The thing is, it never burns my tounge.. It just stings in my nose.. Meaning it couldn't possibly be spicy, it just irritates something in my senses.. I could be wrong and it could actually be that hot that it doesn't effect the tounge.. I have no idea.. But the strongest I've eaten is piri-piri and that shit burns long after your done at the table..

the reason you cant taste it is because all the spicy food you've been eating is dulling your taste buds.

stop eating spicy food for a month and you'll be able to taste more subtle flavors again.
