  • 5:00 for first plank, very nice

  • how long did it take to cut all the way across?

  • Is that an Australian accent?

  • give me a shout Jamie

  • Hickory??

  • I must say I am very impressed by how square that board came out. I think I'll have to build me one of those lumber mills one day.

On a side note. To make the mill even more safe why not run the on/off switch down the new push poll so that the operator does not ever have to go near the whirling blade.

  • how do you set the thickness of the board??do you lift it and put the first cut under the piece of the wood and so on so you have still the same thickness or you just have like many of 1" boards that you always add..??

  • what about blade guards? nahh kidding.. i dont even know what they are haha. Just wanted to say you made some pretty descent planks with this contraption! You can make your own building material, excellent...

  • Yay! The lumber mill's back :D

  • too bad youtube hasn't yet implemented the smellavision plugin ... freshly sawn wood ... mmmmmmmmmmm ...

btw ... good job on the decapi-uh ... lumbersaw ... apart from being a bit slow id looks like it does an excellent job!

  • Wow, that's impressive. How'd you make the saw carriage ride on the rails so seemingly smooth ? I guess I should look at the earlier videos for a clue.

  • Excellent! Good to see the lumber mill going again, hope to see you build on that super tall structure again, the thing you were going to build your robot in, it'd make a good Giant Robot hotel for geeks that want to build stuff. I'm a total geek and had a geek idea, automate that lumber mill, kinda like the way you did before with pulleys, but maybe you could have it knock the cut wood off the top into a pile, reset the mill, and start cutting the next one, that'd be a totally cool project.

  • is that a spinning bandsaw blade on two tires? epic.

  • Was waiting to see this in action.. works pretty well I'd say. I imagine you'll tweak it or maybe make a new one ? Anyways that thing has potential for your many projects :)

  • WAO!!!!!!!!!!!!! awsome!!!!!

  • Was watching the video and was going to comment that you should really add a pulley system to put some force on the blade and not have to push it by hand. But seems I'm not the first one. =)

Why don't you? It's just like two pulleys and a 10kg weight and you're free to do whatever you want for the time it takes to finish cutting the board.

Have you noticed any wear on the tires yet? I made a band saw with small rubber rollers a while back and the saw blade ate thru them quite fast.

  • @nurkanurka, he already has a pulley system in place. Watch giant robot video #2, its cool!

  • haha awesome u told me u were gonna whip the ol mill out glad to see it up and runnin again

  • thats a beautiful block of wood. It must be awsome to make your own material with tools you made from your own material :D

  • WHOOOOAA thats a really fine looking piece of wood!! I want to hug it and press my cheek against it..

  • What happened to that device that would pull on the lumber mill by itself, using the weight of a tree trunk?

  • @Kuparowitz Ha ha. device? You mean the piece of rope, and 2 pulleys? Its on the floor somewhere... hmm.... somewhere...

I've picked the tree it'll attack to next. :-)

  • Nice saw. how about adding a blade guard!

  • @web4deb Nice comment, how 'bout adding an annoying guard.

ha ha. Sorry.. i couldn't resist. Only about 400 people have told my about blade guards.

  • @JMEMantzel :-P LOL I think it's a great machine!

  • @JMEMantzel Oh my goodness the whole time I was watching the video I was just thinking about your poor wife... she must agonize with worry every time you tell her "Honey, I'm going out to cut some wood!". I hope you have good insurance, lol! I do have to say, though, that does make some NICE cuts and it's cool you made that from scratch! Thumbs up! (I still have both of mine... :-)

  • @JMEMantzel you should have made a blade guard- 401 now.

  • Responder a este vídeo...hi hug from Argentina :P you know something abaut open source ecology ?they have lot of interesting info :D

  • hey man just throwing an idea,

i know my work if they ding up a blade even a bit they replace it they look about the same newer blades mean better cutting but i dont know if it would cut that wood but maybe you could ask a meat dept or maybe i could ship you a older one

  • Didn't you make a rope-weight-feeding system for this?

  • Awesome!!! I love DEATH MACHINES!!!!

  • I'm suprised the blade stays on so well....I think you have a pretty good design there.

  • @KevCal510 Nope. No plans. Watch Giant Robot number 2, and it'll show you everything thats on it. In a nutshell, I made it out of what was available.

  • That is flipping epic Jamie! Nice to see beauts of planks coming out of it after it lying up for so long!! Fantastic work.

I would like to suggest adding some sort of wire guard to the back end of it (side you push it from) just "in case" that blade snaps or comes off! I would hate for you to end up with a nasty gash or worse!

  • @borriszan Ya... i was mildly skeptical that it would still be in good shape after sitting outside for 2 years. Other than a bit of rust on the blade, its like I made it last week. :-)

  • yay! Im glad it still works, even after that winter BURRRR! ^.^

  • That looked very rewarding. You could get 2 railroad sleepers from each log. I always wanted to make a bed from railroad sleepers. Stained and polished with perfect angles. Something about the security of being cocooned inside such glorious pieces of wood. Hope your boards don't split whilst drying mate.

  • @bilko1971 Ya, its totallt rewarding. Even when pushing it through manually... its like a chance to sit and calmly contemplate the universe, and blah blah... then poof. Fancy new board. :-)

  • Ah, the return of the lumber mill :) I do think that the mill is one of your most beautiful inventions, so cheap, simple and functional :)

  • @Nysswald true, I actually wanted to ask him what he did to it that we have not seen it in videos for so long

  • Jamie, your aus accent sounds scottish

  • Who is aaron and where did he come from? haha wtf...

  • @millamulisha He came from Australia. He's one of the people I'm planning on buying an island with. Err... i mean... with whom I'm planning to buy an island.

  • How long does it take for the blade to make it across the whole length of the log that you featured Jaimie?

  • @grinninggnome It depends. The wood has soft and hard spots. 5 - 15 minutes.

I'm doing something softer next. :-)

  • Hey do you get any warping issues with the wood you cut, or do you use it before that becomes a problem?

  • @bdrman2004 Well, that particular log has been drying for 2 years so it won't warp.

If I cut something fresh, I'll usually use it fpretty soon, and screw it into place, or just stack it in such a way as to discourage warping.

  • hey

  • Those boards really are gorgeous.

  • Beautiful wood. I'd be too afraid that the blade would slip off and cut me though.

  • @thehilitereel ha ha. Ya, thats why I made the longer handle. ....although its never had any problems.

  • @JMEMantzel but you were smart and used tires that are rounding instead square, this causes the blade (band) tend towards the middle at the peak of the rounding in the tires.

  • @reltham Yep.

  • I love that thing. I think I subbed right after watching it. ( robot video 2) Makes me want to run out and make one myself.

  • Looks like some choice strips of lumber!

  • nothin like a nice piece of ash.......

  • nice
