  • muy buena orquesta

  • BRAVÍSIMO.. felicidades!

  • This is great for a high school orchestra! Good job!

  • THAT was just WONDERFUL! i am really impressed with the level of playing, passion and ensemble (as so many are), and by the commitment of all the players. and bravi, teachers, the opportunity and training you're giving those student is fantastic! hopefully they will pass it on to future generations :)

  • There is no uniformity, no one is wearing the same clothes.

  • Very well done, it is obvious that there is some serious talent at your high school. I was particularly impressed with the winds. Strings were also good, but they should have put accents and bowing where Dvorak indicated. For example, 1:30 is supposed to be all down bows. Other then that, excellent work.

  • im playing this song in my orchestra and im 12

  • very well done for a high school orchestra.

  • Maybe they are not good enough to play this stuff ;-)

    especially the trumpet :-D

  • Considering this is a high school orchestra I would say this is a really good attempt. I wish in my School we had more string players then we could have done some orchestral stuff rather than concert band and brass ensemble.

  • Some would say you can't teach musicality, and some folks can't learn to discern intonation well. I disagree. You can practice, over time, to play expressively, tastefully, and with feeling. A good teacher can help. For some it may be natural, but I would argue they learned it from an early age, singing, whistling, etc. However, you don't see classes for musicality in a music program. Aural skill, individual lessons on your instrument, but musicality is just blended in with everything else

  • Technical skill vs intonation vs musicality -

an ongoing debate. All are important, you can't be a professional without all of them (I think, anyway). What is most important to teach at this level? My opinion (I am not a teacher) is that you need to develop them all. You can be musical, but also be slow and have some intonation problems. Others may not wish to listen to you, but you may enjoy yourself tremendously (I know I do..). "Perfect" performances can also be lifeless.

  • First of all what I meant to say was: "It was NOT 100% in tune." Secondly, musicality is more important than pitch. Where do you go to school? Horowitz is famously quoted for saying that he would rather have a recording of someone who plays musically rather than a young artist who only plays notes.

  • There are some great musical moments and nice full sound coming from this orchestra. I only wish the audio we better quality. Dvorak Symphony No. 8 is a tough piece and you did well performing especially for a high school group. Celli--nice idea on the soli! It was 100% in tune but musicality is more important than pitch. Excellent job!

  • 100% in tune and rhythm are all that matter to an ensemble of this level. "musicality" is just what those who cannot perform strive for. PITCH is all-important. anyone can play, few can play worth hearing.

  • i think its the opposite.... a lot of spots are out of tune but they are playing together and they are very musical, which is why i liked the performance.

  • This orchestra is really good...kuddos...

  • Can't say i'm a fan of this!

  • Always interesting - the critics never seem to have any performances of their own posted. Just a jest - I know there are some tought parts, but there are some beautiful ones too, and these kids are experiencing something I never had any oportunity to do. Finally, though, we're not looking for awards or accolades by posting this. This is just a great way to share performances with families and friends who would otherwise never have a chance to see them.

  • I would love to post the performances of my school playing this movement; however, I never buy the DVDs of our performances because my family is always at my shows. Having played this myself I know its extremely hard. I completely understand and respect your comment!! I just wasn't moved by it...thats not to say it sucked, which it didn't, because the ending was lovely. I just wasn't moved at all.

  • This high school in Iowa has an orchestra?!!

  • Yeah, we're one of the bigger ones in the state. We also placed third in the nation at the National Orchestra Festival in Albuquerque, NM in February.

  • Para ser una orquesta de High School es bien grande y además tienen buen nivel :D Congrats..

You're a high school one and you're a big orchestra. What a great Level. Congrats..

    From Venezuela.

  • what a pretty clarinet solo... i remember playing this in my sophomore year. good times. good job, too -- it's not an easy piece!

  • pretty good though a couple times I had to clinch my teeth.

  • This is a High School orchestra? WOW!!! Guess it argues in favor of doing whatever we can to maintain music programs in our public schools.

  • This piece is EXTREMELY challenging. I'm thoroughly impressed that a high school group could do so well with it. Their first violins seem quite strong. Well done!

  • at 2:25 listen to the flute solo. it is kind of overshadowed by the trumpet player playing too loud, but i think that the flutist did an AMAZING job. she was only a junior in high school when this was recorded!

  • I agree with apierson90. The flute solo is pretty good but the trumpet completely drowns it out in the beginning of the phrase

  • WOW what a mistake on the first note of the movement by the trumpet player...shame it kinda put a shadow on the whole piece...I laughed out loud and had to watch it twice just to make sure
