I always .iked the instrumental themes. Burt Bacharach's 1969 "On a Bicycle Built for Joy", incorporporated into the classic 'Raindrops keep fallin' On my Head" for Butch Cassidy, was used for a long time!
Wonderama, Bozo's Big Top, Sheriff John, and a few others like engineer bill, hobo kelly, the baker man, pixie ann, skip and woofer, baby daphnie were kid show hosts of the nineteen sixties and early seventies. there was a noticeable change in the content and inflection of these shows after the end of the vietnam conflict. They were severely dumbed-down. - Perhaps because of political necessity.
They showed this in Southern California too. I remember it seemed to be on all day on Sundays. Get up it was on...Go to church and come back it was still on. Eat lunch and go out to play a while come back and its still on
@Superbatfan Yeah, good old MetroMedia KTTV. I remmeber when I was a kid, wanting to be in the audience...and getting pissed off when I found out from my buzzkilling older brother that it was taped in New York. :-D
I can't believe you got the theme song! And that wave! I was actually doing it just now as I watched this and I was onlly 8 at the time. I remember that much. Thank you for making me smile!
I used to work there when this show was produced. I remember Bob very fondly, and his producer Jan was simply a great guy! I recorded Bob on one of his public appearances. He truly loved kids. As a kid I was on the show many times as well. I am sorry to hear of his passing. The show was on two 90 min 2" tape reels, and unfortunately due to the cost of video tape at the time, shows were erased and re-used (one of the beauties of video tape)
The EIA color bars as seen briefly around 0:06 are exactly as I remember WNEW using as of this point (the early to mid-1970's) prior to the station's sign-on. The bars & tone were followed by: a brief shot of the station ID slide; the "Flag Evolution" SSB; and the announcer (whether Fred Scott or Lou Steele) signing on Channel 5.
Was on this show twice. Once with Billy Jean King and once with JR Puff 'n Stuff. Great memories. Remember well the songs "Kids are people too" and "Anybody here have an Aardvark".
Thank you so much for posting these. I am sitting here late at night reliving my childhood alone, as no one else seems to remember this when I bring it up!
During his tenure on "Wonderama," Bob brought in Kool And The Gang, B.T. Express, Roger Daltrey, David Essex, and even ABBA to perform their songs for the kids. Also, to keep up with the times, the Go-Go Cellar was renamed Disco City.
@TammiWayKewl I was on the show when Kool and the Gang guested, but the kids didn't know who they were. We sat behind the producer's daughter who got picked for everything. The Good Humor ice cream bars we got were melted and the our bag of goodies contained useless things, like a card for a free Burger King Whopper, but only if you lived in Staten Island!
The name of the song is "I Ain't Down Yet". It comes from the movie/Broadway Show "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" & was written by Meredith Willson. You can get it at the iTunes store or Amazon.com.
@RRaquello Thank you for that fine information! You are a very kind to share that with us. I watched this as a small toddler, and found it to be quite enjoyable.
"I Ain't Down Yet!" Was from "The Unsinkable Molly Brown",starring Debbie Reynolds as Molly,I discovered later!

It's a New York thing. If you didn't grow up in the Tri-State area during the 60s and early 70s, this wouldn't mean a thing to you.

Later in the season Bob McAllister comes with a song in the begining singing "Hello!", and the audience would repeat "Hello!" a great begining.
