Even after 9 seasons, this is still the single best performance on American Idol. Clay Aiken completely redefined this classic song and made it his own. The climax can still give me goosebumps; what a fantastic singer and a fantastic performance.

You do realize that it is IMPOSSIBLE to have it fixed. FOX would not chance having to pay huge fines, get sued, and everything else by changing the numbers? It's like saying the Oscars are fixed. They have an independent house that counts the numbers. People always forget this is NOT a singing contest. Like Adam, people did not connect to Clay as much as Ruben. Not to mention neither Adam nor Clay needed to come in first - the other two did.

i remember my mom would only watch because of him/his distinguishable voice. after that season she never watched again. did you notice that judges only compare contestants to him when it's barely comparable? they never say 'you sound like ruben or clarkson'. just aiken. don't see those on idol anymore--it's not just about raw talent but the doomed 'package'. i don't see those who have range like he does. idol's changed! clay got cheated--he had the top votes for every round until the end. :(

Because black people are inevitably better singers. I have always been amazed at how all the professional black singers blow the white ones out of the water. But oh well, i'll sit in my corner being a lame white guy.... Even though Clay Aiken one that final hands down..... My head hurts.

I still get goose bumps when I hear this song. Clay is an amazing artist with a phenomenal voice and in my opinion he should have won AI. No problem though he's very successful and has a great career.
