  • @vodoochild994 im personally impressed by the new singles and how John has evolved, and you really have to take into account the way he writes/composes because he really bases it all in his personal situation, It has some kind of Bob Dylan feel to it, I Love the crude pain and misery in this rich songs.

  • Hope he recovers and takes enough time to heal so this can be fixed >

  • I'd like to hear both a studio acoustic version of this and a studio "suped" up version :)

  • @urbanmonk95 theres a studio version but Aaron Neville is doing most of the singing on it.

  • seems like unless you release an album that sells more than continuum or battle studies you can't criticize I prefer continuum to battlle studies but they're different albums. I can still listen to continuum when I'm in the mood and a new John Mayer album is just that. A JOHN MAYER album... let him release what HE wants. I'll support whatever direction he wants to take it and if you don't like it don't buy it and work on releasing your own music before you criticize one on today's music legends

  • There wouldn't be anyone who happens to have the version of this song that he played during the radio broadcasts before Battle Studies would they? I'd imagine it was good quality and I'd be so happy to have it.

  • this is heartbreaking i can feel his pain.it's transcendent.

  • ? all the blues vs. pop arguement is silly. Pop is more complex than blues harmonically, but blues can be more intricate in lead lines. I'd rather more Pop with blues sensibilites, like continuum, than a full on blues record.

But, whats the actual truth? Pop grew out of blues music, ultimatly being the term coined for any music thats released for mass consumption. So if you say you don't want him to do pop music anymore, then your saying u dont want him to realease another record: blues is pop

  • "Heartbreak Warfare" sounds like U2's "Bad" But Im still a huge Mayer fan. Seen him 8 times, never gets old.

  • what a great song! too bad can't download it..

  • This song is so good! He should make an album of all the unreleased songs that he made because they're so good.

  • i'm so glad i found this song, it's beautiful :D

    JOHN MAYER ROCKS !

  • heart... sinking... !

  • Is there anyone who knows if it's John that's written this song?

  • @wazupjaghetermaya yepp he did

  • @Ethonadon10 okay thanks :)

  • Is there an mp3 for this song?

  • Battle Studies isn't as much soul as the others...but it definitely has some. Sure there are several pop tracks on there, but they're pretty darn good.

  • I need this. Is there anywhere I can download it?!?!

  • this sounds very coldplayish

  • @RideLXbindings that was my first thought too

  • all the woman will enjoy battlestudies cause he's john mayer and they(most) prefer pop to blues. however he's trying to transition to a more bluesy tone and the sooner the better because he has to much skill to waste it on overly repetitive and simple songs.

  • @mabie551 Yeah I agree, Battle studies has way too many of the pop stuff, he promised the guitar fans to be more interesting to them on the next album. We shall see

  • @johnnnybruce Does not matter what he promises. He always comes up with something new and different. There are so many elements to his music. You cant just say "too much pop stuff".

  • You all should check out the Nikhil Korula Band. We have played with John Mayer, Dave Matthews Band, The Roots, Jason Mraz and many more other artists. Colbie Caillat and Sara Bareilles are some of the artists who have opened for us over the years...

  • @alexanderthemarsh if you're going to be like that, i'd rather you be back at sea.

  • @alexanderthemarsh whys he so bad?

  • does anybody have the mp3 for this song!?!?

  • i love jm music

his style is so sweet and lovely

  • I'm pretty sure this was at his concert at the San Francisco Fillmore right after Katrina. He was there for two nights. I went to the first one and it was a great concert.

  • this song is sooooo beautiful, and jm singin/playin it makes it even more amazing <3

  • Comment removed

  • @surfingers No it's a song dedicated to the victims of hurricane Katrina. He even released a studio version of this on a cd beneffiting the victims called : Hurricane Relief :)

  • ah, well i knew it was some disaster of some sort in the US. What a guy!

  • Im actually pretty sure it was for the Katrina victims.

  • John mayer makes an statement here!

Those who feel loneliness and tired of waiting

You are not alone, hang in there.

  • where can i get an mp3 of this??

  • rockin the charley strat.

  • i agree, heartbreak warfare is so freaking good

  • I completely agree with Chaferbud. It's such a moving song. Speaks to everyone individually while also portraying the overall sense of exactly what goes on when people split up or have fights. It's so raw.

  • you must not be the biggest fan EVER if your doubting his musical capability, obviously if you liked the last 3 albums why wouldnt you like the next..Continuum was different from room for squares and look how that turned out

  • I'm concerned about the new album. I'm the biggest fan EVER, but i honestly don't think the new single is very good. Not really impressed. I'm just praying the new album is the quality we've all come to expect, and not all pop mush.

  • listen to heartbreak warfare, the studio version. your concerns will vanish

  • @chaferbud hahaha you dont know shit about music chaferbud... and how the fuck haven't you heard about this song? haha. You're such a tool chafer.

  • i hear ya. i agree with you. he totally bombed that crossroads cover on his new cd. and whats bad is he usually plays it well live but not on this cd.

  • @voodoochild994 agreed.. the new stuff is s***

  • @voodoochild994 The new album is amazing! Esp these songs - Assassin, Edge of Desire ..

    JM rules!

  • @shru589 U forgot "Heartbreak Warfare", most definitely one of the best songs he has written.

  • @voodoochild994 Look at Continuum and "Waiting on the World to change"... Enough said.

  • @voodoochild994 You were right .. Battle Studies isn't a good album. Hopefully the new album coming out soon is going to be awesome. It seems like it should be really good.I can't wait for his next guitar album though it's going to be unbelievable.Check out my channel I have a lot of John Mayer ...its way better than chaferbuds channel.

  • @25Ragz Battle Studies was actually a really well-crafted album that wasn't necessarily meant to showcase just guitar but John's whole musical ability. The layering that went into all the songs - Heartbreak Warfare, Edge of Desire, Friends, Lovers or Nothing and Assassin just to name my favourites - is crazy and to say that it 'isn't a good album' is incredibly insulting to the amount of effort he obviously puts into his music.

  • @capnjacksparra Its really not man.. haha.John even said its not that good... i like a few songs from it but its really not that good of an album in my opinion.

  • @25Ragz He's said that it's not better than Continuum, it doesn't mean he wasn't happy with it. It's always going to be hard for him to top Continuum because that was a fantastic album, but that doesn't mean Battle Studies should be completely disregarded as being any good. Also keep in mind that it is a concept album based around juxtaposing love and war, and you can't say he did a bad job in putting that idea across - in fact i think he did that very convincingly.

  • @capnjacksparra He's basically said that he didnt like his new album on a radio show and several other occasions.. he was talking about Edge of Desire and about how its the best song on the album and said "is this song really that good?or is the album just that bad?"and he has said a lot oftimes he was disappointed with it.I like the cd...its ok. I just don't think it expresses how talented John is at all.The album grew on me but I know he'd agree with me that it's just ok. not good.it just isnt

  • This is one of my favorite songs ever, and I really wish he would record it. Unfortunately he let Aaron Neville record it instead.

He wrote this right after Katrina, and it's about the loss that that devestating storm brought to so many... and this was recorded at a show within a week or 2 after, if I remember correctly.

    It makes me cry everytime.

  • I am really ticked however that this song and Taking On Water wont be on his upcoming albulm. They are both amazing songs and they both fit right in with the theme of battle studies.

  • I love that line "Heaven knows, but I don't" Fantastic.

  • I love this song. Period.

  • i really love when people argue on my channel. grow up!

  • yes he is going back to his old 'writing ways' but just think, we all know how amazing his live in la album was, and that was with simple music. and he made it better. hes teasing us, and in his concerts is when our jaws will drop once again.

  • where can I find this picture?

  • its on the screen in front of you ;) just press your keyboard's Print Screen button and paste it in to Word, and email, Microsoft Paint (or equivalent on the Mac)

  • THIS SONG IS OLD PEOPLE. I think it was written after Hurricane Katrina.

  • I LOVE HIM!

  • i'm a little dissappointed with battle studies so far, was really hoping for another blues/rock album

  • yeah man.. I really thought that too.. but maybe he's making blues after this album... I HOPE..!

  • well, thats what the trio is for! =]

  • except for the fact that a lot of this album was made with the trio.

  • Me too. i haven't heard any cool guitar parts or solos yet. It seems like he is going back 6 years to the old simplistic JM (which isn't necessarily bad, i guess). Not what I was expecting though...

  • nah. this is more like his room for squares. this is what he used to be

  • considering it's not even released yet... good one

  • because the album isn't released i haven't heard most of the songs? good one

  • i'm sure battle studies will be just as awesome as continuum

  • i'm sure it will, just that i'm into blues so i like what he did in continuum and try!.

  • I'm not that sure :(

  • i am perplexed as to why we are discussing his parent's marital status.

    def. divorced by the way..

  • this pic is of him is sick ... i want a pic of me like this on stage... hahah

  • John mayer's new album

    Battle studies 17-11-2009

  • this song is about a friend of his that was homeless and had nobody. his parents just got divorced like 3 months ago. this song was written about 4 yrs ago and this version is played 4 days after katrina and was on an album benefiting katrina with aaron neville!!

  • Im not up-to-date on everything, dude. your comment was written so cavalier that it made seem as though you spoke with authority. also, my response in no way makes me a 'complete asshole'. Have a nice weekend.

  • Did Mayer write this?

  • @Levidamanguitar: yes...they are. There was a write-up about it in his hometown paper. Look it up before you say something stupid.

  • Something stupid? Sorry if Im not up to date on every inch of a celebrity's life. Last time I checked they weren't divorced. Great job at making yourself sound like a complete asshole!

  • definitely divorced. they kept it on the down low but they are divorced.

  • @Kolster33...seriously? hurricane katrina? that was 4 years ago now. Continuum would have been the album for a Katrina song...this about his parent's divorce...think about it

  • his parents arent divorced

  • Mayer's parents divorced on May 27, 2009

  • This was written in response to hurricane katrina

    blasphemy i tell you

    john is god.

  • Ahhh! I couldn't help myself. I had to watch it. Baylin told me not to but I did. Ahhh!

  • what does he mean when he says

"I'm still hurting from the last weekend"?

amazing to see that john gets hurt too

since every fan thinks he is a GOD.

keep on writing songs like these john.

after all we all need a glue to stitch our heart together.

    LOVE MAYER.

  • Think he says "this is for anyone still hurting from last weekend"...although I haven't a clue what that means!! Can't wait to hear the new album, songs sound brilliant!! :-)

  • umm no one thinks mayer is god, hun. his fans know that he he gets hurt.

  • umm i think he's a guitar god.

  • yeah, me too..

  • @chaferbud I thought that was a given lol.

  • i fucking love JOHN MAYER

  • WORD!

  • haha, he totally crashes at 1:45 when he sings "how am I gonna beat this pain" :P

  • yeah

    wow

    thats weird

he's not a voice crack kinda guy

i guess it happens to the best of us

  • Seriously why is this song not for sale, I want this version!

  • this was actually written with somebody else in response to hurricane katrina

  • Even though this song is basically unknown, it is by far my favorite john mayer song. Good stuff

  • I really don't think you guys have a clue how many songs he's actually written... He's even said himself that for every song that he puts out there there are 10 that just fall into nothingness...

  • Yeah I heard that too. He also writes like half of songs and stops. He says he then turns them into intros to other songs when he does live shows.

  • Its incredible...i wish i could just write ONE song that was actually good....but to write hundreds is amazing

  • Like the "I'm portable" on AGT, which was awesome.

  • and "My first love" at the end of Comfortable on AGT

  • this is a hard reality for many songwriters.

  • Comment removed

  • I think this song is possibly pertaining to Katrina.

    Just a guess.

  • he wrote this after 9/11

  • I for some reason want to think this is maybe on his new album

  • It won't be

  • yes it will

  • Nope

  • why not ?

    and why so serious?

  • Why would he put a song that's both older than the trio album and written for somebody else on his new album?

  • I wish it'd be on the next album. I caught this live on the Trio tour and loved it. However, I think it's life is over.

And seeing as "Heartbreak Warfare" and "Half Of My Heart" are locks for Battle Studies, I doubt John needs another "Heart" song on the album.

  • hahahaha i was thinking the exact same thing! plus he already has the heart of life and only heart... he's got to mix it up a little lol

  • and dreaming with a broken heart

  • WOW how'd i miss that one? lol

  • lol.

  • I only think it might be because I think it was one of the songs he posted a video about. At least I think it's this song.

  • Where/how can i get/download this song???

  • Is there anyone out there who loves this song as much as me? It's so hard to find other versions. I'm not a big fan of the Aaron Neville/Mayer collab... I feel a good Mayer song went to waste.

  • if this is a really recent song like pretty near to march 1st when this is posted then i think it might be a battle studies song that he was trying out live...apperantly he is playing random shows unnanounced to try his new music out

  • no this was at a trio show at the fillmore in CA in 2005

  • yeah does anyone know what hes talkin bout "hurtin from last weekend?"

  • I found this song by chance as well, along with a few others that I believe are from the same show. Pretty cool stuff. I'm so curious about what he's referring to in the beginning about "still hurting from last weekend." Hard to say.

  • This song is SO amazing! I have an idea guys.. We should all write a letter to John and ask him if he will release a B-side album, with all the tracks that didn't make the released albums. I would love to hear a studio version of this song (with just John singing), or maybe Lifelines, the Hurt, etc etc..

Seriously.. I love his music! I need MORE!:P

  • i totally agree...

  • I LOVE this song, and with the deep drum is so great - he should do more like this!

  • i love this song.:) it's awesome how emotionally he sings. it just gets into my heart..

  • its off the huricane katrina disaster relief cd. great 2 disc compilation with some great duets. this is a duet with aaron neville, but john's lyrics here are different than on the album version.

  • i think you need to send this to me please :)

  • lol i put this up awhile ago! i think you need to subscribe to me :)

  • omg... this would work so perfectly on Battle Studies...

  • this is such a beautiful song. its got so much emotion put into it. Beautiful lyrically and musically! does anyone have an mp3 i need it so badly! Thanks for posting this video x

  • The song was first performed on the opening night (or second night) of the John Mayer Trio tour in 2005. The song never made it further than that I don't think except for one or two more performances. A lot of songs were written during the trio tour that ended up on Continuum, Vultures for one, this one just didn't it would seem. Nice song though.

  • That makes sense. When I downloaded it, it said "John Mayer Trio" and I was didn't believe it. Now it all clicks. Thanks man.

  • great...

  • I heard he did this song for Katrina relief.

  • you heard correctly, you can hear the final version somewhere on youtube

  • i heard you hear from the version with aaron neville

  • Amazing :)
