The exodus of Houston was horrendous, it took 3 days to go 81 miles. At night a sea of red taillights! I was separated from my family, there was no place to escape to because there was no gas! I'm still stuck here, because FEMA would not help me get back to TX. They forced me to leave, family in Chicago was the only place for me to go, my car broke down, tried to return after car was repaired, only to break down again, then back to Chicago. Rita and FEMA ruined our lives, and no one cares! Sux

No, not "everyone" got scared and evacuated because I stayed for both Ike AND Rita, yet I'm a girl. It gives me the shits how all these "real" XY males, with the audacity to tell me that I will never be a boy since I can never grow a functional penis, got in their little trucks and left like sissy babies going to Mama.
it does not seem like that long ago. Some people are still recovering and some have not returned. We are near Toledo Bend Lake and the destruction was large even that far inland. People standing in line for hours and hours for generators and fuel even 9 days later

@jinthral Surely you have recovered from this by now, it's only been 5+ years.

More people were killed evacuating like mad than as a direct result of the actual storm. Just shows how unpredictable the models can be.

Thank God it didn't directly hit Houston, I was scare by looking at the radar when Rita hit as high as 185 mph out in the Gulf of Mexico

This was the one that was supposed to hit Galveston but didn't and caused the massive evacuation chaos. This is why no one left for Ike.
