  • Love it

  • i love this old school song. it just reminds me of the old days man!!

  • Just heard this song on the radio and had to look for a performance on Youtube. I had Shanice's album that had this song on it and I would play this over and over again. I wish they sang it as simply and sweetly as they did on the album...No need to 'take it to church' for The Arsenio Hall Show. Still love the song.

  • Wow! I remember when music was music and you really had to have talent.

  • thank u arsenio hall...4 the memory

  • no no no ....if anything johnny made our girl bring it....ok..

  • One of my fav Shanice songs. She was and is soooooo under-rated! Gosh, I love the 90s. Johnny Gill cracks me up how he performs,lol....but he is great at what he does!

  • I love dis song :)

  • I love this song!!..

  • Shanice

  • Love...Love...Love this song!! Shanice has always had one of the best voices on the planet! This was my first time seeing them perform this together and I have to say...Johnnie effed the song up by over-singing!! U can tell Shanice was so over him!!

  • fuck me u gotta love youtube for putting up shit like this

  • Thank God for youtube. Moments like this could easily be forgotten.

Watching these live performances of these gifted artists makes my soul smile.

  • beautiful duet like one comment this young lady should have ben bigger than what she was .I own some of her music and know had she stayed in the game I would oen more, love her music. This song is so beautiful

  • the most skillful voices male and female of the day..........ooooooweeeeeeee!

  • Music is her!!!

  • Go hed girl and sangggg !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • gave me chills to hear these two "totally underrated" talents

  • blessed with talent - sexy - AND - classy (both of them!).

  • Johnny Gills Maybe...sends me away wanting to call every ex girlfriend back and ask to do it again.

  • Beautiful! I remember this song when I was in elementary school, it used to make me cry, I'm sure I didn't even know what it was about at that time. Listening to it now, it's a very touching song.

  • Beautiful vocal combination! Shanice, Whitney & Mariah- off top, have 3 of the most beautiful voices in the Industry.

JGill does tend to oversing at times and in his diva-ness (we know JGill) always wants to compete.

  • Man people don't sing like this anymore. These are real vocals.

  • Man people don't sing like this anymore.

  • I REMEMBER THIS!!!! LOL

  • Listening to Johnny and shanice give me chills....mmmmmmmm

  • I love this song and the singers. It amazes me to see a female on stage with clothes on, much less a SUIT. LOL. Classy and sexy at the same time !

  • Now that is some SANGIN"!

  • Dang, he gave her a run for her money.

  • @GeorgiaIsOnMyMind Johnny knows what he's up against, so he had to come extra strong - Shanice ain't no pushover.

  • @rageon202

Well Shanice has pitch but Gill is the king of riffs and runs not to mention vibrato!

  • @rageon202

Also his lower notes and well developed lower range threw her off because she just can't go that low.

  • @GeorgiaIsOnMyMind Shanice also has riffs, runs and vibrato. Remember the recorded version is different from this and if we should assume then that this showcases a battle, then that means, this was unrehearsed and that I doubt very much. Johnny is a man, so he's expected to go lower than Shanice, esp. since she's a soprano. I don't see how he threw her off, they both were okay, but Shanice shows more relaxation. That tells us that Johnny was working overtime.

  • Johnny sounds like a mix of Luther Vandross and Teddy Pendergrass

  • any of you young kids that say your generation of music is better than mine send me your address so i could whoop your ass like your moma should of !!

  • Love this song!

  • This was my -ish back in the day.lol

  • Repeat all day!!! Nothing beats live when you have the vocals (FOREAL!!!) They were both showing off though. LOVED IT!!!

  • SO SILENT OF A PRAYER..

  • johny gill man why can they bring good music like the 90s bak god bless new jack

  • whatever happened to shanice, she had such a lovely voice

  • @jaie25 She grew up and leads a normal life like most artist do.

  • Johnny was over the top in this rendition. It's almost too much. I still love the song and both of them. I miss The Arsenio Hall Show too.

  • @Tamia1478 I agreed, Johnny G. was a little over with this rendition but still the boy have VOCAL GREATNESS. I love EVERYTHING he sing!!!

  • the 2 best voices in the business!!

  • So awesome.......

  • One of my favourite Shanice songs. I love Johnny, but he goes too over the top with vocal gymnastics in this version, which is quite different to the album cut (and fair enough too - you're not going to bother bringing Johnny along just for the token parts he sang in the original).

Nice performance. Thanks for uploading this.

  • wow at the long cd cover lol the good ol days lol ya'll betta sing shanice and johnny

  • Johnny didn't sing so much on the recorded version. He seems like a attention hog here

  • @DaxShaw Forreal he doesn't sound good singing over Shanice. She had to been like nigga this is my song your just backing me up hoe.

  • @reggie46404 lol thats true,he was disrespectful

  • This song brings back so many memories! Now this is talent!!!! These two wonderful souls can sang! They delivered this song! You don't even hear people sing like this anymore, we need more love songs and song of inspiration! Thank you Johnny and Shanice! We need Arsenio back!!! Talk shows are so boring now, Arsenio always kept it real, exciting, positive and fun!!

  • She looks younger now.she sings like an older lady.

  • First, it's a travesty that Arsenio isn't on the air any longer. With all the nonsense and undeserving "personalities" having shows since then, many were right to call this show being cancelled exactly what it was. Second, Shanice is a professional (has been since childhood) she looks neither nervous nor intimidated. We have to stop equating success with sales and numbers, she will always be enjoyable because she is a real singer!

  • @westoak1106 Exactly.

  • double shot of shanice and who else remembers 1130 pm on channel 2 watching Arsenio? ( WBBM, CBS affilite for those outside the chicago area)

  • This girl shoulda been way bigger than what she was. Luv her!! No one today can touch her

  • @angelabrandy TRUEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

  • Very good. Wish they would've sung the whole first verse and the second verse, but still very nice performance. And Shanice's head voice notes were very pretty.

  • they was sanging

  • Beautiful. Thanks for posting.

  • Flawless! The best!

  • Man times have changed. They promoted Shanice's voice and not her sex appeal. OK I got a funny if you are singing it then the prayer isn't silent right?

  • Stylish, sophisticated...and classy. The bubble gum performers of today wish they could get close to the range of these two master vocalists. Timeless.

  • And their singing is inspirational. You could hear the inspiration of those times in their voices. It's a shame to see how we have gone backwards culturally.

  • @ulopongtatlo Say it again!!! Lol.

  • Too Good!

  • she has a very good voice and live too. amazing

  • Please don't come here with that. This is a powerful duet AND THAT look is not annoyance it's an INTENSE look as THEY BOTH take this performance seriously! Also Shanice's sweet and bubbly personality DO NOT allow her to give in to such a bad attitude. In fact Shanice would prefer to take the back seat before putting up a challenge. So please leave such behavior to the MC's and the Whitney's WHO CRAVE spotlight. Both artists gave a stunning performance AND STAYED within the melody of each other!

  • AMEN!!! Stop the MESS before it STARTS!!!

  • @Kumtekmeon But Johnny Gill still did what he is known for today, OVER SINGING THE SONG! Just sing it and be done with it. All that changing of pitch and vibrato is unnecessary! Just sing the song! Johnny Gill can totally destroy a song lol

  • @baseballcharlie Charlie, I didn't know Johnny was known for over singing, I only know he can become INTENSELY passionate which defines his style.

  • very awesome.

  • 1:55 ...very funny! Johnny goin crazy!

  • HAHAHAHA 2:45 is just pure talent.

  • old school goodness

  • yeah my eyes get wet when I listen too this

    this is soul

  • Love this song..awesome

  • This defo brings back the memories of my first LOVE.

  • johnny looks retarded when hes coming out lol.. good voices tho

  • so you saying my man was 1 chromosomes from being a big tongue'd freak??!!

  • This song will ALWAYS remind me of being a kid.

  • This brings back fun memories. Thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for posting...a real treat!!!

  • One of the greatest duets of all time!

Go Johnny Go, you the MAN!

  • beautiful classic ballad by two of rnb's vocal heavyweight best!

  • This brings back memories of when i first arrived in la, I was on this performance( on keyboards) along with Ralph Hawkins,?keys11, James manning /bass,eddie hedges /perc, Stan Smith?drums... June 1992 !

  • In a perfect universe, the likes of the underrated/underappreciated Alexander O'Neal, Johnny Gill, Jaheim, & Carl Thomas would B on the Mount Rushmore of R&B, while crap like The-Dream, J. Holiday & Jeremih would B collecting dust in the bargain bin...No disrespect, they R all talented, but the difference in talent level is wider than the Grand Canyon. Ne-Yo is prolly the most talented young new singer of the past few years, & even he doesn't measure up 2 the former 3.

  • She had an AMAZING voice!!! She shoulda/coulda been HUGE!!! I'm talkin' Whitney/Christina/Mariah-level HUGE!!! Life aint fair, & neither is the music biz.

  • my fav from HER.... GREAT DUET with J.G. w oow.

  • Shanice is one of the most underrated singers in history!

  • Wasn't this song a tribute to the servicemen in the Gulf War?

  • Yes, and a well done tribute.

  • JLA Always.

  • this was a beautiful song and they both showed their potential as artist.

  • I LOVE this song!!!! Takes me back because I remember when it first came out. Shanice and Johnny are simply the BOMB!!!!

  • yea they were i was in 8th grade when this song came out

  • Ya'll got it right.. This is music that just makes you feel good. I miss these days too. I loved that whole Shanice CD.

  • Treasure these moments and these singers because the nonsense we hear today is not even near to comparison to those in the yester-years.

  • You are so right! Miss these days.

  • @shadzlicious - I find it funny when people reminisce so much about "yester-year". You do realize music changes and is evolutionary. I too am nastalgic when it comes to old school music and miss the artist we grew up with, but lets face it, every generation loves the music they grow up with. Our parents said the same thing about our music as we say about today's music. Don't be so quick to trash the music of today because our kids will one day treasure it the same way we did "OUR" music.

  • @shadzlicious yes we got nothing junk now days. Thank god for the invention of IPOD cause I don't have to listen to the radio no more

  • @shadzlicious I'm proud to say that this is my childhood here. I was twelve when this was on Arsenio. A great era, wasn't it? I agree with you, btw. The sad thing is that someone of Shanice's talent would most likely not get signed yet these crap singers are the first to get a recording contract. Sad, sick but true.

  • @shadzlicious I know that's right!!!! Preach on!!!

  • song like this make me tingle

  • OMG haven't heard this song in so long!!!

  • I love it....

  • These 2 artist were so great at such a tender early age, the record company didn't know how to market them for commercial success. They still got it to this day.

  • This is better than the studio version!

  • One of the greatest soul songs ever created. Every time i hear it it put me in a romantic intimate mood.

  • This was one of the best songs that I had heard during this era and she as well as Johnny had some powerful voices. Whatever happened to the both of them? God bless them both. irvinbean123

  • Man, I haven't heard this song in a month of Sundays. I forgot all about it and how beautiful it was. Takes me back to junior high. Still sounds great.

Shanice, girl, you need to make a comeback and show these so called R&B chicks out now how it's done.

  • im 12 and i know the words to this song coz i love the song sooooo much xx lol

  • very nice

  • wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Silent Prayer" is my favorite song from "Inner Child". I can't belive this is my first time seeing this performance from Arsenio!! Man, THIS is what R&B should be today. 1992, those were the days!!

    Simply A M A Z I N G!! Both of them!!

  • Tell me about it. When I first heard this back in '92, it was one of those songs that just stirred your soul. Our society needs music of this caliber now more than ever.

  • The song "Nothing Left To Say" by Mint Condition sounds like todays R&B has a chance but then again, they've been around since 1991 with "Breakin My Heart" so, they already KNOW what real R&B is! lol. But i agree with ya!

  • So true. Thanks for reminding me about Mint Condition. They always stayed true to their musical roots at the cost of not getting the airplay that crap R&B receives today; that's okay because they earned their fanbase. When people go to see them perform it's because they want and not because its the cool the thing to do nor because a corporate outlet told them to.

  • i like this version. johnny sounded sooo good

  • THIS girl is seriously talented. Sad she ain't more popular...cuz she refuses to show her body and hoe herself out.

  • i'd make her sing me 2 sleep erry night

  • she will eat beyonce's corny ass up

  • they sound better live than on the record. great job!!

  • They sound great on both, just that the arrangement here is more intense and not mellow like on the album.

  • Love that Johnny growl Grrrrrrrrrrr...Work it, my Brother.

  • lol u right!!

  • this is one of my fav songs of all time. JOHNNY THE MAN!!!!!!

  • Go ahead y'all!!!

  • I love this song! I remember when this first came out...I was ALL about it.

  • fuggin awesome post. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beyonce cant touch this!!

  • stop the talk bout beyonce leave her out of this..Shanice can sing and BEyonce can sing as well

  • @shiakahn At All!!!

  • OMG! Not LIVE! Killem Shanice and Johnny! 2 of the very best voices ever in the industry.

  • OMG

  • Amazing song! Two truly talented artists! Love you, Shanice. So many memories.... 90's!

  • I forgot all about this song. Its truly beautiful.

  • ooh i love this. They have magnificent voices, capturing

  • There are no true artist like these two around anymore. Johnny Gills range is ridiculous

  • He sang it didnt he!

  • shaince you never ever got your props baby i'm sorry boo but i love you so so so much

  • Johnny neither honey!

  • The quality of music and vocals back then were top notch. I miss Shanice and Johnny.

  • Two of the BEST vocalist - I don't think Shanice ever received the proper respects for her vocal talents.

  • Agreed, she has the beauty in her voice much like CeCe Winans, but her own. I also think she has amazing range and whistle tone! I've never heard her sound bad!

  • so was this song about desert storm? i know it came out around that time. it sounds like she is singing about a loved one at war

  • Amazing song and makes me think of all those men at war in Iraq today.. :(

  • there aren't many singers that can make me cry..JG is one of them!! :)

  • two great talents! thanks for sharing this.

  • This is such a fantastic song, they didn't need to overdramatize it. Sometimes less is more. Johnny Gill is such a great singer though, Definitely better than all of the other New Edition guys combined.

  • people can't sing live like that anymore. Live performance are always prerecorded or artists are lip singing.

  • great!!

would you happen to have her live performance of "i'm cryin" on apollo?

  • no sorry.

  • What about, 'Just A Game?'

  • no sorry.

  • I remember seeing that performance a few years back! THAT WAS MY STUFF!!!

  • I saw that! TOTALLY AMAZING!!!

  • this was a beautiful song when the world had true talent

  • BEAUTIFUL, absolutely beautiful.

  • I was wonering what had happened to this video. Glad to see it back, cuz the world needs to to see these two tremendous Talents!
