i actually met jerry reed about a year before he passed one of the nicest most kind person u could ever meet very layed back he will be missed sing heaven brother
While Jerry was one of the great country singer and song writers, if you really want a treat look up some of his instrumentals. He's probably one of the best guitarists you'll ever hear. I recommend "The Claw" for some of is best work!
JERRY WAS A CLASS ACT AND HE DID NOT USE THE KIND OF LANGUAGE YOU GUYS DO !! NON OF THE GREAT MUSIC HE MADE HAD ANY OF THAT, JUST PURE TALENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU GUYS ARE JUST JEALOUS !!!!!
Divorce..The fucking you get, for the fucking you got. !! Jerry was a good 'ol boy...Must of been from "The Heels", my dad loved his stuff...along with Bluegrass
@FinalJusticeMovement Especially when kids are involved. There was a guy I used to talk to at my old job that had his own business, but was going through bankruptcy and liquidating business assets due to the economy. His wife had divorced him, took custody of the kids, took the house and a majority of his money from the liquidation. On top of that, she filed a restraining order against him for something she exaggerated on. Not sure how much is true, but could very well happen.
@2391688 Actually if you are referring to "funny bits" in the music, you would be right he was not the first. But he was the first true country performer that held comedy shows. No country performer up until his time had shows focused on comedy within music and that is what made him famous and popular. So to use your own words, sorry kid, you are wrong in the real meaning of what was said.
More than 30 years? Wasn't this song written in 1982? Or was it just released on the album then? Anyone have any info on that? Either way, love the song, makes me laugh every time I hear it...
It has been more than 30 years since I heard about that song. I know it was funny but when i first heard it from a scene from The Bounty Hunter yesterday it was hilarious.
@Farrah300 I believe there was a movie in the late sixties or early seventies called "Divorce, American Style" which had the same theme as this song. I think the movie came out first.
@asbpab1966 Yes, I've heard of the movie. I was just referring to Jerry Reed's comical way of singing about divorce, even though divorce isn't ordinarily a laughing matter.
Great songwriter, great singer, great entertainer, great comedian, great actor and above anything else exceptional musician. No One like him before or since.
Jerry Reed and Charlie Daniels are the only two musicians that I can honestly say I've always loved listening to (even during my heavy metal phase) since the day I was born. He will be greatly missed!!!!!

Indeed, while the song takes a rather humorous tone,
this song is actually a serious account of what men deal with
when it comes to divorcing women. Simply put, virtually ALL males
IN REAL LIFE will face the very same things Jerry sang about.
The impoverishment of men at the hands of a divorce court
are NO JOKE in the least. This is serious business.
