  • First time I'm hearing of this, better late then never, absolutely beautiful..

  • Yosemite seems to be an open wound,

revealing itself in an obvious manner making complete the totality of nature evident to the casual or impassioned observer alike. A special place that holds a cosmic event in a park full of rare environments and geology not seen anywhere else!

  • Amazing -- thanks for posting this.

  • i love Yosemite! i wanna go back ther so bad

  • didn't look like that when i was there last

  • Inmountainlavaception!!!!!

  • Instead of water fall, what happened to me was power lines right before sunset, I thought the power lines was overloaded and glowing red.

  • Fabulous.

  • Great history of the falls!

  • Awesome!

  • WOW!

  • WOW!

  • YOSEMITENATIONALPARK.WIKIA.COM

  • Dun worry. It's just Chuck Norris pee.

  • What is the piano piece and artist that starts at about 6:25??

  • @DavidSLynch - answering my own question: I found out that the piano piece is by Emmett Cooke and is titled "Constant Motion". A non-commercial album of Cooke's work can be purchased at sonicoctave-dot-com

  • @DavidSLynch : Thank you for the title to the music! I was looking for it myself... and love this video. Phenomenal, spiritual, breathtaking. As said in the video, Yosemite "just keeps giving gift after gift." Now I have to go there!

  • Is this heaven?

  • @BellaMare Yes, I think this is as close to Heaven as we mortals can experience. At least some of us are capable of understanding what Yosemite really is. My daughter is a Natural Science teacher and has guided a few groups through the park. For my first visit, my son in law and I had her as our guide. As the woman in the video says: everywhere you look, you see something beautiful and awe inspiring.

  • @Dunkleosteus3691 Heaven isn't a real place, treasure your life as the only one you have, not a test of fate.

  • @PhotoShopChannel : Eh, okay. I take it you have all the answers - why aren't you out there lecturing the rest of humanity instead of butting into a discussion of a TOURIST ATTRACTION? Offering unwanted "free advice" to strangers IS testing your fate, fool.

  • @Dunkleosteus3691 First of all I'm not butting into a conversation that's on an open forum. And secondly I never said I have all the answers so why are you implying I do? To build you argument upon? Yes. Its pure irony your calling me the fool old man, and I think you know why that is. As a currently un-related question, why do you own a gun?..

  • @PhotoShopChannel : You are butting in: replying to me about something I did NOT address to you. What made you jump in with off-topic generality bull s**t? Why do you own a mouth... or a computer? FYI: the topic is Yosemite National Park. Peddle you BS somewhere else.

  • @Dunkleosteus3691 Oh I was just going to pick up on how your prays are so un-effective that you need a weapon of self deference, its the irony really. "What made you jump in with off-topic generality bull shit?" Umm, your the one who bought "heaven" into an OPEN forum, learn then internet mat its OPEN, if you dont want anyone to butt in the you should not have the conversation infront on the world.

  • @PhotoShopChannel Do you read what you type before you post it, or like a jackass get a thrill off trolling so you don't bother to proofread and just want to post right away as if what you have to say is important?

  • @khmerRougeRedux i seriously dont care for typos/spelling on a trivial youtube comment

  • @PhotoShopChannel : again, what's that to you? As others here say: you're a troll and an illiterate too. Anyone can write: "That's as close to heaven as we mortals are likely to get' and EVERYONE BUT YOU understands that's just a metaphor complimenting a natural wonder like Yosemite. And just about everyone knows: "self deference" used to mean "self defense" is the mark of a moron (and an anti-gun, anti-rights nut job).

  • @Dunkleosteus3691 I'm not anti rights, I am anti second amendment, or just anti firearms for the public. By the way I get what you mean about the metaphor.

  • whats the best season to get to see the firefall??

  • @kakapipipupuchupa This isn't exact, but around February 12th to 22nd, IF there is enough water flowing to create the falls and IF you catch a good clear sunset.

  • @kakapipipupuchupa : not sure what you mean: the original firefall was a show put on for a time. I heard that the park officials decided it was creating a mess (burnt wood and blackened, scarred rocks) and not in the spirit of a natural wonder like Yosemite is meant to be. The last firefall took place Thursday, January 25, 1968.

  • Nice editing and story telling work!

  • Very well done. Great video.

  • Is this the end of the whole series? The Horsetail is really beautiful.

  • 6:36 thats my grandma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not even joking hahahahaha i love her! this is so funny! and horse tail falls is pretty neat too! :)

  • Beautifully captured in all aspects

  • So it WASN'T mentioned why in the video?

  • @kinsmed

Yes, it was mentioned the angle of the light, the sunlight/shadow and the amount of water, the obvious conclusion is that the amount of water, sunlight and shadow are only right to produce this effect during those two weeks.

  • @bellestarr71 'Obvious' requires conjecture.

    Amount of water? Shadow?

Study Stonehenge and you'll have a better idea of why it MIGHT be necessary.

As a professional photographer, this is what I need to know... but was NOT mentioned in the video.

  • But it is never mentioned in the video why it has to be that specific time of year.

  • @kinsmed yup, it IS in the video. Two weeks in February, each year, IF there is enough water in the falls and IF there is no cloud cover at sunset.

  • @zippywebgenie Where in the video does it say WHY it needs to be those two weeks?

  • @kinsmed I believe that it has to do with the positioning of the sun relative to the falls. It's only at that position (range) for those two weeks.

  • @kinsmed I guess they made the assumption that most adult people understand that the earth's position to the sun changes a little bit each day. And, because of that, the angle of sunlight on the waterfall is right for creating that lighting effect only for those two weeks each year. The angle would be correct in August, too, but at that time, there isn't enough water in the falls.

  • Amazing!

  • Great info on a fascinating experience. I've shot it several times including the day of this video. Never anything less than stunning!

  • i thought it was lava at first!

  • @crpederson (sarcasm)is it contrived to wait until night fall to see the stars? Is it contrived to travel half way around the world to see some mountains in Yosemite? I mean it just proves people don't appreciate where they live and just visit the mountains close by to them? (/sarcams)

  • who can hate this.. I seriously wanna now!!

  • @batosato only idiots hate this.

  • I'm no hippy, but I feel my life somewhat more complete after coming to the USA and seeing Yosemite NP a few years ago.

I can't wait to take my two sons there when they are old enough.

  • what a gift indeed! what a wonderful life experience to witness this amazing phenomenon.

  • what is the name of the piano piece starting at 0:18?

  • So bright and vivid

  • I'm Bob and was so very pleased to be included in this episode Steve. A pleasure meeting you and the wait was worth it. To be chosen to close the piece is a special honor and privilege. So many unique places to see, experience and capture as a photographer and share with others. Being there is always "Enough," but to capture the moment and share with others is again, an honor.

  • @crpederson Its ironic that you talk about ignorance while doing a pretty good job of embodying it yourself.

  • @crpederson to each his own, I would suspect that once someone has waited patiently and finally witnessed such an rare phenomenon they would never deem the time spent as wasted.

  • @5:47 Bob is the Man!! I also appreciated Bob's comments right at the end @7:36 are inspiring and show such appreciation for this unique and beautiful moment.

  • Hey, I am in this video (see 3:30 mark). I am the handsome one.

  • @gotbuddy LOL!!

  • Absolutely stunning - as we left the park February 13, 2011, we "happened" upon it and the dozens of photographers that were waiting in hopes that it would happen and when it did they were popping wine and snapping hundreds of pictures. We were in awe, and took some video for youtube and camera/phone pictures and just felt really blessed that our timing(His timing) was impeccable that evening.

  • @Bloodnswash I think the Firefalls is something different. The locals suggested that was something where they dumped burning logs over a waterfall.

  • Wonderful video...

  • Once again, you nailed it, Steve. Bravo zulu!

  • Beautiful video, thanks for sharing!

  • pretty good video

  • What a beautiful phenomenon! Nice video too!

  • Enjoyable especially seeing myself in the video.

  • Nice job Steve, very enjoyable

  • amazing video!

  • AMAZING!!!!!!

  • I want to see this

  • Great job. Fascinating episode.
