"There are no contests in the Art of Peace. A true warrior is invincible because he or she contests with nothing. Defeat means to defeat the mind of contention that we harbor within." Morihei Ueshiba
Is this sort of fighting applicable within self defense measures? Im actually thinking about taking Tomiki ryu. Im already taking krav maga, something really different. But the locks in this and balance can add to my techniques already.
@salitre3 I wouldn't spend my time and this if you're doing Krav. You have a very different appraoch in Krav, take Muay Thai instead, as Krav is more about punching and kicking rather than grabbing
i know many years trained aikido player are in many cases totally can not fight in real cases since never trained properly. as some of the aikido (tomiki, etc) training competition together it like judo at least can fight with aikido skills however if not it just amature. i communicated many aikido, judo, mma persons. this is definitely real situation.
i know many of aikido clubs who teachs no effective ways always saying our ways is very effective. This is just telling fake. the guys who say founder bla-bla is just hitch to fake ways and those who does not open "actually I am not strong". founder said is convenient to those week guys. i saw many guys who traing dancing and saying I am learning samlai spirits I am learning...well might be depends on person what the person want to learn is different however at least should not tell a lie.

Kenji Tomiki (the founder of this style of aikido) was a judo black belt before becoming a aikido black belt. Obviously he felt differently.

In Tomiki Aikido, Tanto competition has one player with a "knife" and one without. Each player gets a chance to attack and to defend.
