  • Everyone in my house hair is long or grows fast. My mom's hair is about 3-4 inches past her shoulders and my sis when her hair is straighten is about 6 inches past her shoulders. But my hair is a lil past my neck and my braid is like 2 inches. my broke off a lot. My parents act and say my hair is fine but they dont know how its like having short hair.

  • I, Heaven, pledge to grow my hair with you ! :D

  • I am starting your pledge TODAY!!!

  • ive been on the hiar pledge for about 11 months and i have seen hair growth but not very much can you help me

  • Its so hard but I look at your hair now and keep going and what style did you put your hair in daily at the beginning of your pledge?

  • brushing your hair causes it to either break of or fall out because you're tugging on it.

  • okay so, i just went on your twitter and i saw some of your pictures (im not a paedo) and omg i saw your hair and i was like, 'please tell me those are extensions!'.... are they?

  • iM TAKiNG THE PLEDGE.....

  • can you make a video she us how to do that side braid please and thank and please say my name in the video please and thank you!!!

  • Girl ur hairs already long mines just past my ears!!

  • you skipped number four ?

  • I'm re-watching this video again after being on my journey for 6 months. When I first watched this you had what I would consider "long" hair which I thought was unreachable for me. After being on this healthy hair journey for 6 months I have reached your hair length already :D and my hair is growing very quickly now. Hair care really does work! Our hair can grow just as fast or even faster than any other race's hair. All it takes is a little work.

  • @TransitioningBeauty

    YESSSSSSS!!!

  • I went on the site and it said to never brush your hair. I do not understand this point, what is wrong with brushing my hair? Thanks

  • @LoonyBratz brushes break off your hair, she reccomends you use a wide toothed comb! ;]

  • oh yes i wanna grow my hair!

  • The holy music made me laugh lol

  • i use grease and i wnat to know what you think about grease

  • @ExzoddiaTGW

anything with petroleum (<-- cant spell) clogs your pores which makes the grease just sit on top of your head and slows down the grow. use something that has natural oils in it:)

  • Actually clipping your ends dose make yuour hair grow longer and faster! My mom has to get her ends trimmed every 2 weeks (0r less sometimes) and it grows like crazy it's amazing how much it grows in two weeks ! Now I beg her to get my ends trimmed so it would grow as fast as hers.

  • Ok quick questian,I watched this video in July and I started my pledge in July and it's oct. Now and it's still as short as before... I don't understand why it takes 6 years to grow one inch of my hair! Please give me some tips! Btw I love your name and u have inspired me to keep going! :)

  • Hey I Just Saww Your Video do you think you could give me tips on how to gro my hair pleasee x

  • Clipping ur ends helps stop breakage. And when ur hair breaks at the end it ultimately makes ur hair shorter. So yes clip ur ends to prevent excessive split ends which leads to breakage and ultimately shorter hair. Duh!

  • I left braids in my hair for 6 months.. Id wash it whenever I needed to and i occasionally redid them whenever I felt like it. My hair grew so much longer and I permed it after I took out my braids... It flows, bounces, and looks healthy..btw cutting your ends doesn't help at all... Your hair grows from your scalp... Not your ends..

  • i love you so much , kay. well i decided to do this pledge because my hair is shoulder length short but the back of my head is not even with the rest of my hair. i was wondering if you can tell me what kind of comes and brushes to use when i wrap my hair because i usually use a rat tail comb & one of those wide tooth brushes to wrap it.and i think that's breaking my hair off.

  • Finally something for teens thank you so much for posting. Ok so my hair is almost shoulder length but I got extensions and my hair is locked so the extensions grow with my natural hair. Can I still do this? And obviously I'm not going to be able to clip my ends and stuff but I know that I can keep it healthy so I pledge to grow my hair past my chest (if i can)

  • My hair wont grow.

    Im soo stresssedd out .

I dont undertsand what to do.

i dont kno what im doing wrong !! help pleasee :(

  • @HairResearchx3

    Maybe the stressing out about your hair, is whats causing it not to grow as fast, stress largely impacts this. Relax, sleep, eat healthy, drink water, and use those protective styles. overtime, you will see the growth :}

    DONT STRESS GIRL!

  • @jaybabycool

I think that I'm going to steal that advice. Can I? lol I want my hair to grow SO badly but I feel like it is slower than everybody else

  • @jaybabycool please pleas i dnt kno how to braid my hair ...ITS SO SHHORT :( and what kind of hairstyles do i do 4 it to gro please help

My hair was like that too. It was extremely short you can just do braids really small braids they have lots of tutorials on it. My mom would always do french braids on mine. Is your hair straightened or just natural at the moment?

  • @12cheesenuggets

No problem at all and another idea is twist.

  • I wash mien every Sunday :D

  • i wrap my hair alost every single night before i go to bed and on the days that i don't i DEFINATLY see a diffrence in my hair(a bad difference) wrapping definatly helps

  • I'm almost fourteen and I've never permed my hair, only hot combed a few times. My hair was quite long until it was hot combed once and it fell out, and now I'm trying to grow it back but it's taking sooo long. I also never really put heat in it and I use almost all natural hair products, but I don't know what else to do any suggestions?

  • @MsSophialicious

    Well aside from the tips in this video, and what you're doing now, you can go to the extremes and buy a womens rogain to speed up the process a bit, (if your parents allow it, I'm not sure if there's a risk being so young and all) but honestly I Think all your hair needs is some TLC (tender loving care), it takes time to grow your hair, you've got to be patient, and confident. If you're doing everything you can to optimize your growth, that's all you really can do :}

  • but let me ask u something. don't you think that because you live i america and aka the northern hemisphere, your hair is more likely to grow and break less. because i live in the souther hemisphere, in south africa and women here have very short hair. it's rare to see shoulder length hair. so do you think that climate might also have something to do with it?

  • @MissCarrieCake lool yea right, has nothing to do with that, its about genetics! black people can not grow their hair, if it grows it wont be soft...it will grow in afro form, and then they will have to perm it and relax it(which causes damage) then it falls out.

  • What if use heat protector or watver u call it then can u uhse heat for styling???????? ;)

  • @maika305

    alright, but ONLY special occasions!

  • That whole African American peoples hair doesnt grow as fast as everyone elses is bull. The reason why it may seem that way is because alot of African American females are confused as to how to take care of their hair and even though it grows the ends usually break off which make seem as if its the same length im proof I chopped my hair off about 4 months and it was above my ears now its already at my shoulders. African American females dont let ANYBODY tell you that you cant grow beautiful hair

  • @Specialribbon

Just means I'll have to work harder, won't it?

  • @jaybabycool Good for your, Sweetie! I'm happy that you didn't let the previous comment discourage you!

  • @Specialribbon Thats total bull just so you know lol

  • It's not bull. It's fact. It's due to adaptations. Sub-Saharan Africans have course hair that grows upwards with a shorter growth potential because of the climate. Straight hair hanging to your waist is not practical in a 100 degree climate.

  • @Specialribbon Not actually true as Africa is where the human race came from and the genes are shared across races. Just because it looks shorter when it is shrunken and natural, does not mean it does not grow as fast or as long. I know Sub-Saharan Africans with Waist length and beyond hair.

    I'm mid-back length and growing!

  • Exactly what you said, the genes are shared across races. I'm not doubting the validity of your claims, but what you are seeing in those people are emerging recessive traits. Most of these are not as dominant. Long hair in sub-Saharan Africa would be more of a curse. In freezing northern Europe, it was necessary for them to have fast growing hair and more body hair. Most sub-Saharan Africans physically can't grow long hair.

  • @Specialribbon actually you're wrong..im from Africa and u probably can tell from my pic because my hair is short there...but our hair grows a lot because we don't use all these bootleg black chemicals in out hair..if you don't believe me...look at videos of African hair ie Ethiopian hair

  • Ethiopians do have beautiful hair. But that's not where slaves came from. Ethiopians are east African, not west sub-Saharans. Ethiopians have been mixing with Arabs for centuries.

  • @Specialribbon well my familys from nigerian..and it may be bc we're of the igbo tribe but we have really really long hair naturally....and depends on your ancestry and genes..different africans have different ancestry

  • Many central African tribes are descendants of migrating tribes from east Africa. (Mixed Arab)

But I'm not saying that it's impossible to have long hair for Sub-Saharan Africans. It's just less likely than other groups that are from a colder climate that the hair actually served a purpose. And you're right, it's all genetics. That's exactly what I've been trying to say -___-

  • @Specialribbon ok

    i getcha now:))

  • @Specialribbon

I'm not sure what you were trying to impy about Igbo people. I am one and Igbo people are not mixed with Arab at all.

There is NO RACIAL DIFFERENCE in the rate of hair growth.

Everyones hair basically grows at the same rate. The difference is that African hair breaks at a faster rate b/c 1) its damaged from a relaxer or 2) when its natural(fro) the ends knot and break off. the hair is too dry/brittle, or it breaks when combing. It just requires more care to not break it.

  • @Specialribbon thank u!! someone who knows some history!!! the slaves that came from america WERE NOT east african, they were west african(benin, nigeria, ghana) but northern africans can pass for Arabs, latino, mixed, italian etc( go to algeria, tunisiamegypt, north sudan, morrocco, libya, etc) they have light skin with h air down their waist! so ppl shouldnt say "african" as if africa is a country, damn!

  • @Specialribbon

I'm Nigerian of Yoruba decent and I have long hair.

  • @Specialribbon It's been a proven fact that all hair grows at the same rate. However, most black hair is more prone to breakage because of it's texture so it only looks as though it doesn't grow as fast because the ends constantly break as much as our hair grows. If you're able to maintain your length and preserve the ends of your hair then it will get longer. Our hair grows an average of 1/2 inch per month, the same as everyone else.

  • @Specialribbon Actually, that's not true. Who told you that and where did you get that information? The reason Sub-Saharan African hair APPEARS not the grow as fast as Caucasion hair is because our hair is coily. Also, African (Black) folk need to remember that if we properly take care of our uniquely textured hair the way it is meant to (i.e., not adhering to ways and products that folks who have straight hair utilize), then the sky is the limit in terms of growth.

  • @Specialribbon

actually it kinda does but since Sub-Suharan Aricans as u call them have a different hair texture the growth looks really minimal. Also the texture causes natural oils to not slide down the shaft which is why we have lots of drying. Most times the hair breaks faster than it grows which make the hair look like its not growing at all

  • yur skin is so perfect ! (:

  • did braids grow your hair?

  • Get some weave and be quiet:)

  • @Fall4Fashion

    haha...we've all thought it .

BUT while you've got that weave. try to grow that hair naturally. so that one day, you can brag that it's all real.

  • @jaybabycool yeah true and so the weave dont fall out while your wipin your hair back and forth:)

  • @Fall4Fashion

    hahaha <3

  • Love da vid

  • My hair broke off there too but i realized that if i got my roots straight and my ends trimmed then it would look longer :]] Love your vids ♥

  • @DaniB4ever \

during my journey i realized that too! you smart cookie!

  • SO PRETTTYY

  • LOVE your hair colours, is it natural? if not, i need brand and colour name :)

  • @Avtryck

    yea it's natural! Thank you! :}

  • look at her on 4: 37

  • Cool! Let's start movement

  • You can go to prayerandlove channel to view the video on how to compete the video has a pink background.

  • Hi Guys there is a hair growth contest that will be fun and will encourage postive relationship with wome of color. The prize is $150 and it begins 1/1/2011.

here is the link for those who are interested in having fun while growing hair and supporting women of color.

  • u are a cutie.

  • @jaybabycool, has this been workingfor you?

  • This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen. Trim your hair. condition it and stop using crap on your hair. Also heredity plays a big part oh how long your hair grows.

  • Almonds are expensive for this college student. I stick to a vegetarian diet that should be good enough. i just stick to tofu, veggies, grapes, brown rice, water, tofurkey, whole wheat/multigrain, veganese w/flax(which taste just like mayo without dairy). Taking hair, skin and nails supplements, protective styling(braids), aloe vera juice, aubrey protein conditioner, coconut oil, carol's daughter leave conditioner and smoothie, giovanni shampoo. I want to add iron supplement and henna.

  • @Onegurrrlrev: That is good, but remember too much is not good for the body, it is so unhealthy that pregnant women should never consume soy products.

  • Comment removed

  • @Onegurrrlrev: Vegan is best, but a detox should last 160 days in order to replace all old and damaged cells. An inch in two months is really slow. There is a list on my site, maybe you should take a look at it - while it is posted.

  • @4chango the average person grows 6 inches in a year. that is one inch every two months. that is not slow.

  • I will take the challenge...no more creamy crack for at least 6 months.

  • i love you :D

  • Comment removed

  • Wow my hair is growing :)

  • why were like "are yu okaii?" what were you talking about?? and did you say "okaii this shits really crazy?" i cudnt understand at tht part lmao

  • finally someone made it for teen african americans and not just grown people!

  • to keep my ends moisturized i use avon split end mender does it work the same

  • i have my hair twisted up right now and i want it to grow...im in college and im kind of afraid to go natural because i haven't for so long with having it up in twisties...but im going to try and do this stuff while its up

  • ur adorable!!

  • My hair only grow like 4 inches in a yr, by seeing my new growth, But can u be able to tell us how fast urs grow?

  • - black ppl hair grow as fast as whitee ppl (so idk wtf your talking) lol but black ppl just dnt knoee how to maintain it or w'ever .

  • @esaxxcutiee

not true- black hair grows 120 micromeaters a day; white 340

  • @esaxxcutiee uhhh , NO. that's not true , i'm black.. aand it's REALLY hard, so quit stereotypin'. our hair is rougher and not as soft and silky as ya'lls. so know the facts, before you say stuff you don't even know .

    k thanks bye.

  • @esaxxcutiee yea we just use more gel, and pull it tighetr etc but it grows the same

  • @esaxxcutiee Just like how white people dont know how to wash their hair ¬_¬

I think its extremely ignorant that you took the time to search how to grow afro american hair, when claerly your white...? doesn't make sense does it.

    Douche

  • @esaxxcutiee

not white grows at the rat of 3.02 millimintues a day

    black 2.98

  • @esaxxcutiee

    Only half true,

White girl's hair grows at the rate of 3.02 milli-minutes a day and African Americans grow 2.98.

you're right, we don't know how to maintain our length though, once we do, we can have length like white people in no time :}.

  • @esaxxcutiee its what u put into ur body not onto ur hair, do not use chemicals, alot of heat..in order for hair to grow it must be strong. WEAK HAIR WILL NOT GROW!! if ur hair is damaged, it wont grow at all! but if u eat right, drink water, use natural oils, it strengthens hair. Plus genetics is VITAL, indian, caucasian, asian, arab, latino, mixed ppl can grow their hair long easy. Its the truth and its scinetifically proven too, u can put miracle gro until kingdom come, it still wont grow an inch

  • @esaxxcutiee idk what i am doing wrong im taking vitamins and drinking water well its only been like 3 or 2 weeks

  • i noticed u use "white" haircare products...are u sure they work? btw ur hair doesnt seem very kinki

  • i read that using all natural products and washing and conditioning your hair every week is what your supposed to do im so confused because everytime i go to a website ther's always something different what do you do?

  • lls the pledge

  • My hair wont grow why is this i been trying and it stay the same langht

  • @princeofcrunk20o8: You may need to approach it from an internal aspect, I place the Naturopathic list on my site, but it will only be posted for a few days.

  • loved the intro!

  • i as well have african american hair, im going to be a freshmen this year and i cut my hair shoulder length and my hair was like past my boobs lol and i want my hair to grow back as long as it used to be by my senior year!

  • Im trying to grow my hair too. i got it braided in weave right now. I chopped it off so i only had about 2 inches (almost a yr ago) now its down to my chin but i want..no NEED it longer.lol. At least ur length (i love ur hair)

  • @AkuriSenpai92 Protective styling is the key and moisture moisture moisture!

  • thanx gurl im trying to grow my hair from shoulders to apl! in like a year or little more 4 h
