I had never heard this song before, although I've long seen the band's name. Terrific, because it transcends whatever roots you want to label it with (new wave, pop, etc.).
people write off the eighties thinking it was all poison and motley crue and bad american eighties fashion but britain and europe produced fantastic music-- the last truly original music until hip hop, the eighties were great if you knew where to look.
@paparry Certainly do pal, a young David Morrissey and his mate as Billy and Ickey running away from Liverpool to Wales? Doing up a farmhouse? The programme sticks in my mind that summer 'cos there was a group of us 13 yr olds messin' about as you do and we all watched it. Dead keen on one of the girls I was as well!
Takes you right back to your youth, when all you had to worry about was how you were going to convince your teacher that your dog had eaten your homework, LoL..
I remember listening to this one summer's evening towards the end of May 2010. It had been a long, traumatic day and it was going to be worse the next day. As I sat there in the lull of battle in the garden of a tucked-away house in Wiltshire, this came on the radio and allowed me to compose myself and be at one with the beautiful summer's evening, and be at peace with the world.
A golden age for music never to be repeated because of music tv' we never had it back then and the yank's taking over with there junk music...it's a crying shame........
the joy of re visiting music..is a joy..why so many peeps negative?... This song as many shaped me in music terms..not like the "drivile" that gets fed to teenagers now...
I loved this song..on a 7" vinyl..with all the "crackles"..& imperpections....maybe Im too old fashioned....?but I am only 40...ish..!
DANG!!!! I remember this with their other song German Girl.High school days listening to WXB 102 in the Philippines. This is after Break Dancing and before Hardcore Punk and a little bit of Stray Cats and Ramones.
this is such a beautifull song i heard it first as a 17 year old boy many many years ago and i fell in love with it right away now im a middle aged 35 year old man who is still touched by this beautifull tune. i think we can all relate to these great lyrics.
An incredible summer of 83, busy time for a young firefighter, happily married, but gettin hot and sweaty certainly attracted the ladies, loved that time, this Liverpool band added to that back then, as we were just down the road in Southport. This was our theme tune, on North 7 2.
Manadaluyong boy. i'm from Lucio Cruz!!! Ikaw??? Remember the jiggs were doing back then? Hiring Sound and disco equipment and held a dance party for a fee? Those were the days were new wavers get together and have a great time> I did held one dance party at Rizal Tech COlleges back then. ... Those were the days....
I;m a WXB and WRT listener way back then. New Wave rules. It's really great that we have the 80's songs back then. So sad that songs today were a bit pathetic...
Some songs can encapsulate a life and mentally transport you to the magical places you inhabited when you were young and immortal.Everybody has one;this one is mine (and many other people's too).Absolute magic.
When I was 12 or 13 this song together with OMD's Secret and the Duran2x splinter group Arcadia was often played in the Marcos-Tolentino Headquarters during the 1986 Philippine presidential elections. My juvenile mind fantasized over the pretty youth leader of the headquarters, a girl who was 8 years my senior. In a sort of serendipity, i later discovered that my ex-wife who is 8 years my senior was this girl's classmate in high school. :)
The 80s music had so much melody, great song and greater memories, this song always reminds me of a friend who i played music with 20 yrs ago-Marty mc Elroy
Beautiful beautiful beautiful. Takes me back to being in the back seat of my parents car with the wind in my face on a summers day..Not a care in the world...
This song represents the best moments of my life: summer 1984, strolling in the streets of Paris, picking up girls, feeling the heat of love, freedom and youth rolling through my veins, farewell louise marie mollen
@Tazzzomg This was 1985, when did Coldplay released the song Strawberry Swing? Was it around 2006 or what year? If that is the case then The Lotus Eaters were the first ones to release the song.

This is what 80's music was about
STRONG MELODIES and HARMONIES!
Musicianship was required, but the technology we take for granted today was starting to appear back then, so you had the best of both worlds.
Now unfortunately, real creativity is the exception, not the norm. Sad.
