  • Strange production but this clip includes some of the most beautiful music ever composed. Last night, at the opening of the new production of Das Rheingold at the Met, I was wiping away tears as the Rhinemaidens sang wonderously of their gold.

  • jajajajajajajaja

  • Extraño montaje. Me parece novedoso, pero no me agrada por completo. Recomiendo la versión de James Levine con Sigfried Jerusalem como Loge.

  • I love this Rheingold. Having seen it many times in Bayreuth, at least we can laugh our asses off here, knowing it's all so silly, those damned goofey Rhein-bitches and that Clown pretending to be Pagliacci. CAN ONE IMAGINE A COMPOLETE RING LOOKING LIKE THIS????? Boggles the mind. And the acting? Nahhhh, just joking. That's just some 'swimming chicks' trying to learn how to swim.

  • Is that the Tin Man running around on stage?

    "Follow the Rhinemaiden brick gold!"

  • This is making me choke on my own vomit. I used to think that one couldn't fuck up something like this. I guess I'm wrong.

  • Oh my.

  • Rheinmaidens play PING PONG at the climax.

  • Richard Wagner wanted to compose an Opera about Buddha. I read somewhere the title had been the Victor.

  • yes, that's true, Die Siegor, I think

  • This production has some Siamese influence, am i right?

  • I'm certainly glad I missed this rubbish! Poor old Wagner must be spinning in his grave.

  • i know, Wagner is German and hates any asian art incorporated into his opera heh? is that what you are thinking?

  • No!

That is certainly not what I meant but you do have a point. It just looks cheaply done and tacky and in my opinion a misinterpretation of the composers original intentions.

  • oh and while I'm at it I must point out that the costume design stinks and the set design is terrible and not very user friendly!

  • ok, now I agree!!!! completely totally.

  • didn't Wagner himself once though think of writing an opera based on the life of the Buddha

  • What happened to poor Alberich?

  • How many phantoms of operas are there in this world and how many still to come.

This whole evening I keep advertising Anna Russell(here on the Tube) yes, that woman in the pink chiffon drag: EvErYbOdY wants to sing opera, don't we?

Her Ring story couldn't be better told by Cosima herself.

  • Not bad these Rheinmaidens. How come Alberich looks so pathetic?

  • This is musical just after him chasing the Rheintochters. So...after so much misery, you would look pathetic too, I guess...

  • Not in the Met/Levine DVD or the Bayreuth/Boulez DVD. Those Alberichs are more angry than pathetic. Of course, without seeing the rest of the Bangkok production I won't know if there are justifications behind such a depiction of Alberich.
