There was an episode where a kid asked how to unlock Super Sonic in Sonic 1, and the host actually lied about it, saying you needed all the emeralds, 200 rings and jump to be Super Sonic. It is nearly impossible to do. I cheated, got the 6 emeralds and started the game, and got 200 rings and jumped. No Super Sonic. Ahh memories. (for the record I don't think there are any levels except Green Hill Zone that you can get 200 rings, since I collected every single ring in the level to get +200.
This was my show! I used to watch it right after the 12 back to back episodes of Saved by the Bell. Dude looks like Ricky Martin and Joey Lawrence had a kid together.
Holy crap! I knew I could recite the lyrics...but I didn't know 19 years later I was reciting them exactly as they were sung! This brings back memories. For me this show was on (WGN I think) during late afternoon.
@spindalis79 Yeah, it did air on WGN in Chicago back in the early 1990s. I used to watch this everytime that it was on during the weekdays back when they used to show re-runs of C.O.P.S. as well as Hulk Hogan's Rock & Roll Wrestling.
man, when i was a kid. I thought this show was awesome. The intro was fantastic. Now looking at it, it was a cheesy ass show all together. And Johnny Arcade is a kid...he was very "adult-like" when i used to watch this. how times have changed.....
OMG! i had to be like 9 when this was on tv f@#k! i used to catch a mean nut watching this before i went to elementery school i have been trying to remember
the name of this show for a long ass time but just started thinking about it recently
Holy Shit! I've been looking for this show for years now and I finally fucking found it! I could never remember the name of the show, but I still remember the lyrics... I used to love this shit.
anyone remember an episode of this show, when the host asked the contestant his name, and he said, 'Scott!', rather abruptly, and the host asked him to spell it, and he said, 'S-C-O-TeeTee', but the TeeTee was really fast like one letter?
lol I know, right. Nice to see a fellow member of the "old school." Ever see an episode of that show, knowing full well you'd DESTROY the other contestants? Even back then I thought it was a lame show, but I would have loved the free NES games and gear. I could just seel whatever I didn't want for better stuff, lol. Ah, but good times though... good times....
I WAS ON THIS SHOW... THIS IS A LONG SHOT... BUT.. (enough caps, sorry) if anyone has any contact information for the producers, or network, or any way to get a recording of an episode, let me know. Someone stole my copy a few years ago. I had the copy for over 15 years and someone just took the thing. Anyway, I"m hoping someone can help me out.
i remember that douche johnny arcade. this one show he was showing us how to beat a level. he was getting his ass kicked so bad, and right when he was about to die, he stopped and said "THATS the Video Power Edge!"
I was in 8th grade when this show was on tv, I always hung out at my friends after school to watch it too. Needless to say I was, along with every other kid in that era a Nintendo junkie and had lived and breathed video games. The greatest thing about this show was the ending where you had a chance to win the world famous Neo Geo system.
Wow. Not only does this bring back memories (I was an avid viewer of this show in both its incarnations), but I see that at least three contestants and an audience coordinator have left comments. The internet is awesome.
I was actually a contestant on this show. . . lost terribly at Batman. I was crushed to find out that we weren't allowed to ask our own questions to try to stump him. TV's nothing but lies :-D
by any chance was johnny only stumped when no one on staff knew the answers to the questions that were used in that segment? (and also, correct me if i'm wrong, but i THINK they were sent in by home viewers?)
@MrE985 hahaha I remember being pissed off at my mom one morning because she didn't wake me up in time to see it, but she actually taped it for me and I felt all bad..
yeah pretty much. I never understood why people are so butthurt over these old shows being on youtube, especially Viacom with their Nickelodean shows, I mean what the fuck, we want to watch these old shows, they ARENT on DVD to buy and they ARENT on television ANYWHERE to watch! Its not like they are losing money for having these shows on youtube.
Damn it I can't find that uploaded episode anywhere. Anyone got a link? This is one show (san the freakin' horrible intro song and early 90s cliche host goof) that at least for game challenges and prizes would probably be pretty fun to watch today. It was like Nick Arcade on steroids. I always thought the people who did the game run and weren't taking the harder to acquire Neo Geo and TG-16 stuff were idiots. :)
nick arcade wasn't that bad (u could even make the argument that some of the challenges had an educational aspect to them.) for example flash frame. name 3 out of 5 of a certain type of object in a burst of video images) and my personal favorite, "time bomb" (if u guys don't remember this, i wouldn't be surprised, out of all the puzzles i think this 1 was used the least)
(it was only used when teams went into a square that had already been landed on) that was what the bomb icons in the squares represented.) (it kinda made the kids who played it look like idiots.) how this worked was that the team in control of mikey had 10 seconds to spell a word alternating back and forth, and unless they did so successfully, they lost control of him to their opponents.) (i actually don't recall a team who chose to play this ever actually spelling the word correctly.)
@isugoat I actually have maybe an episode or two on old VHS tapes. When I locate them, I'll transfer them to DVDs, rip them to my hard drive, and post them.
@soulscience7 I remember this show! I was between 12 and 13 when this was on the air. I remember one time that Johnny Arcade got stumped by a member in the audience which I think marked the only time that ever had happened on camera at least. I always wanted to be on this show ripping games off the wall and thinking how if I'd gone to school with these kids I'd either befriend them or beat them up until they surrendered their collection. lol. Better days past right!? What I'd give now!
I never realized how ridiculous that theme song was until now.. Of course I hadn't seen this show since the early 90s. I wanted so bad to go through that game spree at the end of the show!
angva or ultimatepump, if either of you guys has old episodes on tape, but no way to upload them, I'll pay for shipping of the tape to me and back to you so I can digitize and upload them. It's the same offer I made to the people who said they had full eps, but no one responds :( btw, i envy u guys. i wanted to be on one of those shows so bad
Wow hey Alex! Weren't you the big guy with glasses and kind of a mullet? :) I think you beat me in my last game! I blew it in the battle of the runners-up where the winner (you) advanced to the final show. The game was Skate or Die 2 and I was eliminated. My name is Mark and I was a small skinny kid at the time. I think I remember shaking your hand after the game and saying "see ya man." I agree that was a great experience as a kid!
WOW! You do remember me! Yep, I was the big kid with glasses and a strange looking mullet thing of hair! haha! I think I have all the episodes we were on oon tape somewhere... So what have you been doing since!?!
WOW!!! I was on this show as a contestant about 6 times! I got to the end and messed up on Battletoads. :( Best experience I have ever had as a kid! I miss those guys. My name on the show was and is Alex Miller. I was the biggest kid there at 13.
"This show is kickin' with maximum hype. You say 'Video Power'? Yeah that's right. Word." Hardest rap line ever...yeah.... good upload though, I'd love to catch a full episode again!
I always wanted to know the name of this show. I was like 5 years old at the time this was out and none of my friends can remember this. I always get weird looks when I ask people about it and what it was. Can anyone upload a full episode?
I need an episode. This thing looks faintly familiar, but I cannot put my hand on it. I do remember that this used to air on WDZL Channel 39 in Miami (currently the CW)
I remember this show, I used to watch it constantly every day I got home from school! This was on either before or after the Power Team cartoon, it's been so damn long, I can't remember anymore.
This show was awesome and even though in the intro video he looks like a demented Vanilla Ice, that guy was actually smart as hell. They used to have trivia questions and if anyone could stump him they would win prizes. The guy was a genius of gaming. And the best part of the show was at the end when the winners got to go through the maze and keep anything they sent down the chute... oh man they had NeoGeo's, Turbo Grafx systems, everything...
Vinnie, that was all staged. Each contestant was given a question to memorize beforehand, and "Johnny" read the answer from a teleprompter. He didn't even seem to like video games - during one break I heard him grumble something about "all this video game shit." Someone would stump Johnny occasionally and win a prize, esp. during finals week, but that was all staged too.
This show was one of the coolest shows ever. If you can ever post the rest of the series of this, I would be forever grateful. I Loved this show!! If you can, that would be great.
i used to pretend i was sick so i could skip school and watch this show, it was on around the same time as GI Joe on WGN. I still hate the cubs to this day also.
oh, i seem 2 remember reading somewhere that the neo-geo was usually awarded as the grand prize 4 being the weekly winner, that's y i said that, but did u run through the mall on the friday show?
You think they'll release on DVD? I haven't seen it since it went off the air in such a long time. They have already released The Super Mario Bros. Show.
Man, I have this ep somewhere in my collection of game shows. I still conted to this day if Johnny Arcade didn't host it, it would have been miles better.
What I'd pay to be a contestant on this show! To wear that velcro vest and stick video games on your body or wherever you have space is one fun thing!
I'm still waiting on any of the people that have been in it or happen to have a copy of an episode.
If you don't have video capture ability on your computer I will pay for you to ship me the videos so I can capture and share them and then ship them back to you. Let me know please. I haven't seen this show since I was like 10!
I remember this way back when. It's kind of stupid now when people grab the same game twice or three times. Besides the Miracle Keyboard and Neo Geo, were there any other grand prizes?
Mon-Thurs shows had a small secret prize like Game Boy. The Friday winner automatically got 1 prize, and another was the secret prize. Typical Friday prizes were systems like NeoGeo, Genesis, Game Gear-don't remember what else..btw with the audience screaming, music playing, the bright lights, adrenaline rushing, clock ticking, I don't blame anyone who picked a prize 2x.:) Also they had a ltd. selection and a lot of dupes..On my 1st run I must've dropped ~8 games when running to the slide-lol
Oh BTW the final grand prize was a $10,000 college scholarship. You got a consolation prize if you lost, but it was usually something crappy. They loved giving out The Punisher for some reason. You could win a game you already owned which sucked. The runner up on my 1st show won a game that he already had. I felt bad and traded with him.
On the last show when I lost, my prizes were Super C and a backpack. I had already won Super C 2x in previous shows! Went home pretty sad that day. :)
Hey Angva!! I was a contestant on this show too. It was the greatest, yet most embarassing moment in my life. I was on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II week. I made it to the championship Friday show thing, but I lost. I still won lots of games and a backpack earlier in the week though.
We should start a Video Power contestant brotherhood!
I did run through the mall-had to find the "secret prize" to win the Neo Geo-it was Pat Riley Basketball for Genesis. I wouldn't have found it if not for some kids in the audience yelling, "LOOK IN THE BASKETBALL HOOP!!" They were only supposed to give "hot" or "cold" clues but there was no enforcing that; could usually hear nothing more than a din of screams.
I also won a Miracle Piano, which was the prize for being the weekly champion (not the secret prize).
I love that show. I used to watch this after school. I wanted to be on the show, but I may be too young. I was 8 or 9 years old. I wish this was aired again. Ahh... memories.
I was on this show-I was the champion of Mega Man week! I won a Neo Geo and thought I was so cool. I'm married now, and my mom still brags about how good I was to my wife.
Before "finals week" we were sent a list of 7 games-didn't know which of the 7 we'd be playing. I unfortunately owned none of them and had to go rent them and practice like mad. I stressed myself out. I was the runner up of my match, then I lost the battle of the runners-up and was eliminated. No $10,000 scholarship for me.
oh yeah!!.. THIS SHOW WAS MY FAVORITE, I WOULD GIVE MY LEFT TESTICLE TO SEE AT LEAST ONE FULL EPISODE...MAN I SHOULD HAVE TAPE THIS BEFORE BUT I WAS JUST A KID!!!!!!!!!!!
This isn't the original theme of the show BTW. Before it turned into a game show, the show was actually a live-action with a cartoon slapped in (which I believe was called "The Power Team").
Dude, put the eps up on here. I'd love to see these again and I'm sure there's a lot of others that would too. I remember waking up extra early to watch this on the weekends.
I used to watch this every day after school on WGN. I'm a hardcore retrogame collector now and i'd give just about anything to see that shit again...:(
@@@---jturbeville
Bro, if you see this....."PLZ" work on gettin those tapes on here. You would be my new Jesus........
unfortunately you'll probably never find any. Acclaim sponsored the show and they went under a few years ago (though there is a new company that acquired their name and assets...) Not sure who else would have episodes except maybe people who were actually on the show.
We woke up at 6 in the goddamn AM for this?!?

Man i loved this show! This was during season 2. The first season Johnny just did just games and tips plus showing shorts from The power team.
I would love to see some of these again! Video power rocked! Thanks for sharing this video. :D

I still have my Video Power jacket they gave us on the finals. :) You guys can email me if you have questions about the show.

I think I remember shaking your hand after the game and saying "see ya man." I agree that was a great experience as a kid!
angva 5 years ago
WOW! You do remember me! Yep, I was the big kid with glasses and a strange looking mullet thing of hair! haha! I think I have all the episodes we were on oon tape somewhere... So what have you been doing since!?!
ultimatepump 5 years ago
Hahaha I still have mine too.

Can anyone upload a full episode?
robb1324 5 years ago
I remember this so well, especially when it was the cartoon. Albiet a rip off of Captain N...but it had Bigfoot and that was cool

Several people have said they have some of these shows, yet noone puts them up...hmm.

I need an episode. This thing looks faintly familiar, but I cannot put my hand on it. I do remember that this used to air on WDZL Channel 39 in Miami (currently the CW)

Do you feel that power? Do you!? Do you FEEL it!?

I remember this show, I used to watch it constantly every day I got home from school! This was on either before or after the Power Team cartoon, it's been so damn long, I can't remember anymore.

This show was awesome and even though in the intro video he looks like a demented Vanilla Ice, that guy was actually smart as hell. They used to have trivia questions and if anyone could stump him they would win prizes. The guy was a genius of gaming. And the best part of the show was at the end when the winners got to go through the maze and keep anything they sent down the chute... oh man they had NeoGeo's, Turbo Grafx systems, everything...
VinnieRoyale 5 years ago
Vinnie, that was all staged. Each contestant was given a question to memorize beforehand, and "Johnny" read the answer from a teleprompter. He didn't even seem to like video games - during one break I heard him grumble something about "all this video game shit." Someone would stump Johnny occasionally and win a prize, esp. during finals week, but that was all staged too.
angva 5 years ago
How do you know this?
VinnieRoyale 5 years ago
I was a contestant...
angva 5 years ago
I don't care... I still think the show was awesome.

This show was one of the coolest shows ever. If you can ever post the rest of the series of this, I would be forever grateful. I Loved this show!! If you can, that would be great.

Johnny Arcade is like a messed up vinnila ice of gaming. Though i never saw the show but i heard it was good. I wonder where he is right now?
Valis77 5 years ago
Johnny Arcade was Stivi Paskoski right? He's on the Showtime series "Brotherhood" now as Pete McGonagle.

booboo900 5 years ago
Yes I ran through the mall on the Friday show...
angva 5 years ago
You think they'll release on DVD? I haven't seen it since it went off the air in such a long time. They have already released The Super Mario Bros. Show.
88survivor 5 years ago
Remember The Power Team? It was Acclaim's version of Nintendo's Captain N: The Game Master.

I want to see the Power team again somehow! why did the show have to be shortlived?
danfifepsu 4 years ago
Man, I have this ep somewhere in my collection of game shows. I still conted to this day if Johnny Arcade didn't host it, it would have been miles better.

where did u find this video? i used to enjoy watching this show. classic

Man!
What I'd pay to be a contestant on this show! To wear that velcro vest and stick video games on your body or wherever you have space is one fun thing!
THEY SHOULD PUT THIS ON DVD!!! hahahah
SamJay57 5 years ago
I'm still waiting on any of the people that have been in it or happen to have a copy of an episode.
If you don't have video capture ability on your computer I will pay for you to ship me the videos so I can capture and share them and then ship them back to you. Let me know please. I haven't seen this show since I was like 10!
isugoat 5 years ago
Usually, they either won or lose, but still get prizes as well. Why wasn't I on it?
88survivor 5 years ago
I remember this way back when. It's kind of stupid now when people grab the same game twice or three times. Besides the Miracle Keyboard and Neo Geo, were there any other grand prizes?
TKnHappyNess 5 years ago
Mon-Thurs shows had a small secret prize like Game Boy. The Friday winner automatically got 1 prize, and another was the secret prize. Typical Friday prizes were systems like NeoGeo, Genesis, Game Gear-don't remember what else..btw with the audience screaming, music playing, the bright lights, adrenaline rushing, clock ticking, I don't blame anyone who picked a prize 2x.:) Also they had a ltd. selection and a lot of dupes..On my 1st run I must've dropped ~8 games when running to the slide-lol
angva 5 years ago
Oh BTW the final grand prize was a $10,000 college scholarship. You got a consolation prize if you lost, but it was usually something crappy. They loved giving out The Punisher for some reason. You could win a game you already owned which sucked. The runner up on my 1st show won a game that he already had. I felt bad and traded with him.
On the last show when I lost, my prizes were Super C and a backpack. I had already won Super C 2x in previous shows! Went home pretty sad that day. :)
angva 5 years ago
ShaolinLohan631 5 years ago
for the friday show of mega man week, did u have to run through the power mall? or did u win the neo-geo automatically
booboo900 5 years ago
I did run through the mall-had to find the "secret prize" to win the Neo Geo-it was Pat Riley Basketball for Genesis. I wouldn't have found it if not for some kids in the audience yelling, "LOOK IN THE BASKETBALL HOOP!!" They were only supposed to give "hot" or "cold" clues but there was no enforcing that; could usually hear nothing more than a din of screams.
I also won a Miracle Piano, which was the prize for being the weekly champion (not the secret prize).
Those were the days. :)

What a Vanilla Ice wannabe.

I love that show. I used to watch this after school. I wanted to be on the show, but I may be too young. I was 8 or 9 years old. I wish this was aired again. Ahh... memories.
Rollergirl2001 5 years ago
I used to get so mad when this show got pre-empted for those Cubs games on WGN.
ReuWil 5 years ago
I was on this show-I was the champion of Mega Man week! I won a Neo Geo and thought I was so cool. I'm married now, and my mom still brags about how good I was to my wife.
Before "finals week" we were sent a list of 7 games-didn't know which of the 7 we'd be playing. I unfortunately owned none of them and had to go rent them and practice like mad. I stressed myself out. I was the runner up of my match, then I lost the battle of the runners-up and was eliminated. No $10,000 scholarship for me.
angva 5 years ago
oh yeah!!.. THIS SHOW WAS MY FAVORITE, I WOULD GIVE MY LEFT TESTICLE TO SEE AT LEAST ONE FULL EPISODE...MAN I SHOULD HAVE TAPE THIS BEFORE BUT I WAS JUST A KID!!!!!!!!!!!
THAT80SGUY 5 years ago
I know. But I actually grew up with the game show more than the original live action version.
88survivor 5 years ago
This isn't the original theme of the show BTW. Before it turned into a game show, the show was actually a live-action with a cartoon slapped in (which I believe was called "The Power Team").
mmilam 5 years ago
I actually have about 3 eps of this show from season 2 when it was the game show.
I do believe Haim Saban, the lame-ass who made the Power Rangers shows, owns the back episodes.
sigmafan 5 years ago
Dude, put the eps up on here. I'd love to see these again and I'm sure there's a lot of others that would too. I remember waking up extra early to watch this on the weekends.
xenogigas 5 years ago
I used to watch this every day after school on WGN. I'm a hardcore retrogame collector now and i'd give just about anything to see that shit again...:(
@@@---jturbeville
Bro, if you see this....."PLZ" work on gettin those tapes on here. You would be my new Jesus........
Nesophile 5 years ago
I wonder if it will ever be released on DVD... You think it will?
88survivor 5 years ago
Man, I remember waking at 6:30 A.M everyday to watch Video Power. It was so cool. I just wish it was released on DVD or something.
88survivor 5 years ago
I always wonder if anybody had any episodes of this show? If so, please upload them on YouTube.
88survivor 5 years ago
unfortunately you'll probably never find any. Acclaim sponsored the show and they went under a few years ago (though there is a new company that acquired their name and assets...) Not sure who else would have episodes except maybe people who were actually on the show.
isugoat 5 years ago
I have 5 SP tapes filled with Video Power seasons 1 and 2. I used to run the Video Power fanpage until I got lazy and never moved it to my new server.
If I had a video capturing device and/or access to my old computer with some clips I made, I would definitely upload them!
