The music of this song reminds greatly of the infamous Nazi marching anthem called Horst Wessel Lied, which was the most popular tune in the Third Reich and is still a great hit with the Nazis today.Weird coincidence or is there a connection here?
Missing verse "And then into a humble shack I wander, My own sweet home & tenderly behold. The folks around the turf gathered, On bended knees, their rosary is told."
This song was a favourite of my dear departed old golfing partner Tom who could sing it when he got a halfone or two into him, and sing it as well as anybody... happy memories... and God rest his soul he and his good wife May... many a good night I shared with them both... sadly missed.
I love Orla Fallon's version of this song. really puts me in a trance whenever i hear it. its good to hear a different version of this song. love it regardless
Great old song. I was not aware that Bing Crosby did a cover of this until I read about it in one of the comments. Definitely worthwhile to check that version out.
I forgot to say that I love the chording on this version. It's not a straight but a very detailed harmony and I love it!! These guys are very good and do this very well...Phylllis...
Listen to music by Celtic Thunder (TheThunderTube) This sounds like it could be sung really well by George...although he's the only Scot in the group!
This song is going to be played at my mums funeral ot the 16th July 2010. She was born near The Isle of Innisfree and always talked the place. I've been lucky to visit it years ago so looking forward to see it again hopefully next year.
Why is it that every time I hear Irish or Scottish music I get home sick........I'm a Taffy living in Denmark for Christ sake ....... must be the Celtic DNA in me.
Long live the Celtic nations and people.......no body do's it better !
Beautiful version of a beautiful song. This song makes me cry every time I hear it. I've tried to listen to it over and over again to desensitize myself. I end up crying A LOT. The accompanying photos are lovely as well!
robert3668 talks through his wrong hole; I'm a protestant who lived for 20 years in The Republic of Ireland and I never encountered any problems,in fact made many dear friends. If you take the Brits and the likes of Ian Paisley and toss them into the Irish Sea ALL of Ireland would be at peace. There is no place more peaceful than The Irish Republic so go home British terrorists. Regards from Bosco in Canada.
When God made Ireland, the Isle of Innisfree,He took his time, and He got it perfect -Well,would have been a lot more perfect, had He not placed It so close to the English! Ireland without the English would be united and at peace.
Having lived in Belfast all of my life I know how glibly my fellow countrymen use the name of God. If we all followed His example and asked Him to save us from our sinful ways this country, and world, would be a much better place.
my personal anthem is beautifully depicted with the great photos. Always loved this and thank you so much for posting it. When one is far away across the miles of oceans in a distant land this music shortens the distance and once again I am home in Ireland.
Odd, this song makes me wish so much that I were home... in Scotland! ;)
love the song, this is a great simple version! nice photos too my family visited the area last summer (my brothers a fiddler and we spent a lot of time in local sessions and visiting folky places) it is a truly beautiful part of the world!
I've seen The Dublin City Ramblers several times live. They have a beautiful sound, and Patsy's interpretation of these Irish ballads is just right to me. He has a very strong, earthy, unforced voice, with enough of an Irish accent to make it perfect. If you listen to him singing "Slievenamon", or "Flight of Earls" you may understand my comments. We need more of these videos please.
