They had a killer band, and belushi was such a talent that they are one of the most phenomenal phenoms in pop music, and blues for that matter, history. Started off as a skit.
@Keijz74 You of course are refering to Matt 'Guitar' Murphy and Steve 'Colonel' Cropper on guitar and Joliet Jake and Elwood Blues poundin those vocals.
people stop talking about justin beiber on a blues brothers songs... wether its positive or negative your still mentioning him and killing the fucking vibe.. thanx
Great song! Briefcase full of Blues is one of my all time favorite albums. When this LP came out it went to # 1. Belushi also had the # 1 movie and # 1 TV show. Talk about king of the world!
I FIRST HEARD OF THE BLUES BROTHERS WHEN "SOUL MAN" HIT THE CHARTS, I BELIEVE IN 79'. BUT, FELL IN LOVE W/ THEM WHEN I WAS AT MAINLY A TEJANO BAR AND THIS SONG PLAYED AND WENT TO SEE WHO IT WAS AND "BOOM BOOM BOOM"!!! GOT THE SOUND TRACK AND BRIEF CASE FULL OF BLUES....MAN!!! BCFofB's I BELIEVE IS THE ONLY BLUES ALBUM THAT WENT PLATINUM! I BELIEVE??!!
A teenager in the 70's, briefcase full of blues my introduction to a life long passion with harmonica and the blues. I had a big chrometta 12, played and cried for weeks until I got the b movie licks right. Blues brothers still move me as much as muddy and my other favs. If the doom and gloomers are right about 2012, all I gotta say is... life well spent!!!!
Ya gotta give paul schaeffer some credit man, he can can always bring together the most eclectic people and make history damn great performances. God bless john belushi.
For Jake and Elwood not being professional musicians, this album "Briefcase full of blues" to me was one of the best live albums of the 70's. Others were Live at Leeds, Cheap Thrills ,Full House and Band of Gypsies.
Amazing what came from Akroyd's Harley parking spot (He bought an abandoned bar just so he could park close to NBC Studios, which turned into the after-show party place... he started keeping instruments around for impromptu Jam sessions. Belushi was tired of the 70s Music Scene and Akroyd introduced him to R&B/Soul music and thus the Blues Brothers were born)
It was a book on the history of the music of SNL that I used to have back in the early 80s. I think there's also some of the info in a Wiki, although I'm usually skeptical about it's validity. Since I remember it from the book (I seem to have forgotten the name) it sort of verifies it.
I'll dig through my library to see if I still have it. It's a really good read about how the "underground" music scene of the 70s-80s considered SNL a major accomplishment. Too bad it's not that way today :(
I watched them do this song last night when i put in the tape of the best of John Belushi SNL. This is by far the best song they have ever done as the Blue Brothers, in my opinion anyway.
The shame of it is that we did find out when Dan Ackroyd made the horrible horrible "Blues Brothers 2000" and then toured with brother Jim, Belushi - it was kinda creepy.
I can see Dan warming his hands over the bones of John Belishi.
@OneCrazyWolfman Not much further. They were running out of steam by the end of the last tour. They were only popular mostly as a novelty, and because people wanted to see john and dan with good musicians. But they really were losing popularity by the last tour.
Check out the best of the blues brothers SNL video for clarification if you dont believe me.
I think one of the main reasons they are so popular today is because we CANT see them anymore. If he was still alive they would have faded away
@Elwood534 soul man and b movie was from them opening for the grateful dead..and irony..the closing of Winterland!(77 or 78 i think) can i get a hell ya!!??
