I can tell for sure drifting is much easier with LSD but mine is a base model which doesn't have that so can you tell me how it feels after the LSD installed?
@Jzeman11 I'm not sure. My came with the stock open diff so I never drove one with the VLSD. What I've read leads me to believe that the Quaife locks up a little better. The viscous works OK, but it really is just fluid that creates friction between the two axle splines which is how they lock up. The Quaife is actually two mechanical gears that mesh together. But like I said, I haven't tried them both.
just mad an account, my first post ever & i told myself i wouldnt be one of those A holes on here. so here is the nice way ill say it. i have a 2008 base model 350z with 275's on the rear.........BOTH WHEELS SPIN & LEAVE MORE RUBBER THAN THAT BEHIND.....i have no mods but a stillen CAI, tsw wheels & yokahama tires ;)
@HR350z4me Well, I'll try to refrain as much as you have from being an A-hole, and just say that you apparently missed the entire point of this demonstration. If you have a base model, as you say you have, then you do NOT have a limited slip differential because NONE of the base models do. I just replaced the stock open diff with a limited slip diff. So this video is mostly for Z owners who actually know what a Quaife is for.
@jwhitaker67 i see how these comments go bad. this will be my 2nd ever. anyways yeah your video shows nothing. i did my research and the quaife lsd does its work on turning and cornering. the take off as well, yes , however your video shows nothing more than what mine would show if i did a burnout video. the quaife would just allocate the power where it needs to be. well just say truce. ill also admit ive only bought my z a few months so your right im one of the less knowledgable in the subject
@DARQMX I live in Seattle, so I drive in the rain a lot. Works just fine, no complaints at all. Does get a little squirely in the rain if I goose it, but that's really the fun. If I'm smooth on the gas, no problems. Haven't really driven in the snow, but once with one wheel on wet grass and the other on dry pavement, the grass wheel slipped a bit. You do need just a bit of traction on both wheels for the gear-effect to work, unlike clutches.
Quaife make some amazing stuff - great British engineering that is used a lot in racing. Their stuff is pretty much unbreakable. I use these diffs in a Land Rover - much better than a Detroit or similar locker.
@suckmypokecock This is true, open diff cars can spin both wheels under the right circumstances. Of course, if that were enough, then people wouldn't want LSDs for when the circumstances weren't exactly right.
Yes, I did install it myself. Took about a full day, maybe a day and a half. It was tricky because there are some shims you have to add to make sure the diff doesn't growl. I love my car and especially love it with the Quaife LSD.
O man I am loving your car. Good job on the install, as I can see it seems to work lol.
I am still stalling on getting one, I love my subaru but can not burn the tires EVER. On normal day to day driving its fine, but that one time a month that I feel like getting buck wild with it I can not. lol Well great car.
Would you recommend it to someone, how is the gas? Thanks for the comment back
@saltyninja01 No, I did not have to buy longer axle flanges. That's the thing about the Quaife, it's designed to replace the stock open-diff, which is a slightly different size than the stock viscous-LSD. The Quaife is a direct replacement for the stock open-diff, but if you want to replace the viscous-LSD (which you might, I suppose) you would need to replace the axle flanges.

is this the 2.0 or the 1.5 diff??

@ultramax123 I'm not sure. I don't think I am familiar with the difference between a 2.0 and a 1.5 diff.

does the base model 350z coupe burn out with both wheels??? do anybody know???
Surfolife 3 years ago
The base model does not burn out with both wheels. This is a base model, and that's why I had to add the Quaife LSD.
jwhitaker67 3 years ago
Some open diff cars do manage to spin both wheels, at least in a straight line

Did you install the lsd yourself or send it in? Are you happy with your car, I am about to trade my wrx for one and test drove one and loved it.
What do you think about it?
