  • Such organic sounds. o.o you'd think the first patch is from a grain synth.

  • some really nice chords here

  • oh by the way this is "WUMPSCUTS" fav synth

  • Beautiful

  • This is one of my favorite waldorf Q vids. I liked it so much that I recently acquired the yellow waldorf Q desktop. Also wondering if you upgraded your OS. I would like to do that on mine via Midi to usb cables with the turtle beach software on my PC. Do you know of a good Sysex Midi program for PC, and maybe a good tutorial? Thanks again for the the awesome vid.

  • @StudlyHero

    Thanks for your comment

I have "SysEx Librarian" for sending Sysex data. but It is a program for Mac and I don't know well about such software for Win.

  • Every sound has the same digital sheen. It's just lacking 3 dimensional tone.

  • @TheSongsparrow Have you heard it in real life?

I mean, I have a microQ and real it has nothing to do in real life with youtube.

The same happens with my Les Paul and Fender 57 Deluxe amp.

  • sounds amazing in the lows

  • those pads at the start sound amazing

  • Hi! I'm currently looking to buy a waldorf Q.

    Preferably in/ around Cologne, Germany.

  • can it do warm pads?

  • Great sounds and thank for the upload !

I own the little Waldorf Blofeld. A little sweet synth. Checkout my vids if you may, like : "Waldorf Blofeld This is techno" - to hear the sounds it can produce.

    Thanks again for the vid.

  • A fat analog sound like CS80:

  • @hasnamussannihilator I have a mQ (only for 1 week now) and I´ve found that for some Blade Runner CS80 sounds (with massive reverb) I really like to use just 1 saw OSC rather than 2 o 3. Don't know exactly why but it sounds a lot more beautyful to me although I'll try mixin it with a pulse OSC like you do.

I also use LFO1 to modulate the pitch in a +12 amount ! But I see that you use LFO to modulate OSC1 Pitch +12F AND -12...

    Please, just a question

  • @javiceres Hi! (sorry for my bad English) I use Pulse wave for Osc1 why I have discovered a better sharpness on High Frequency-range: the sound with 3 Saws is for me too "dougy".

sorry is a mistake: pitch modulation is LFO1 Osc2 +12, LFO1 Osc1 -12 in this way i have two cross modulations effects from LFO1 the first is the opposed pitch of Osc1-2, the second is Pan effect for Filter 1-2. I find that is a pretty way for a "spicy" sound with needet only mild Chorus amount. Ciao!

  • Sounds pretty.

  • Great video, concise and to the point. Answers my question, "do I want to buy a Waldorf Q?

YES I DO, AND VERY MUCH NOW THANKS TO YOU!

  • Where do you buy these things they're too cool lol! It's weird i'm so attracted to electronic sounds... i think i'm a robot =P

  • Ahh the mythical Q.. .I have a blofeld now, but I still dream about getting a pair of Q racks one day... a pair of Q racks and a pair of vermona DRM-1mk3s... mmmmmmm

  • @1:06 that is pretty tight, I'd drop a mad beat and flow on it.

  • 0:20-0:38 Amazing sound!

  • Waldorf make amazing synths..

  • do those knobs have LEDs in them?

  • do you mean circular LEDs like a Nord Lead3?

  • no, i mean like inside the knob itself, like they look clear in the middle

  • Q's knobs have no LEDs inside

  • I love the end of the clip.

  • Wow, love you Mr. Q.

  • thx! love you too (^_^)

  • this synth has a beautiful cold sound to me. i don't care if it isn't analog.

  • You can always get the Q+ if you want to add some analog filters to the Q's signal path :D

  • I love Waldorfs. They're the only truly forward thinking synth manufacturer out there.

  • It has metallic sound like vanguard but less digital and raw sounding.

  • Waldorf Q's VA have its own clinical, sharp, clean and unique sound.Nord/Modular/Leads are more close to real analog sound (also with their interface resebmling real analogs). Virus is something between.

    I miss yellow color.

  • Yes, I love Q's sharp sound. Yellow Q looks nice I know, but its rough surface is hard to clean when it has a stain.

  • Nords sound nothing like real analog. I own an Andromeda and I USED to own a Nord

  • I mean from VA point of view. Andromeda is real analogue but I dont like A6 user interface.

  • Analog synths can also sound different from eachother.

  • it's rare that you find synths that try to be their own thing nowadays

  • My Micro Q did not sound no way near as good as this, I sold a Pulse to buy the Micro Q and was well disapointed, all I got was week sounds and an even lamer OS full of buggs. I know the Micro Q is patch compatatable with the Q but this audio demo sounds ace

  • Certainly, mQ has Low-Fi sound. But I think that is one of mQ's individuality. You should better to use its individuality for your music.

  • Hahaha look one year later I reply to this again, well I got a Blofeld now..and I got the Waldorf bug again lol I wanted a Q or XT but kept getting out bid so got the Blofeld then a week later some one offers me the Micro Q cheap so I have one again lol funny how things change but I actually like it now ;-) I'm also digging it's lo-fi sound never thought I would say that. Still though big up your BIG Q! lovely synth!

  • The T.C. Electronic reverb in this demo may be partly why you perceive the Q as sounding dramatically better than your mQ, if you're using the mQ onboard reverb. Waldorf make great synths, but their onboard reverb algorithms are nothing to write home about (which is still the case in the Blofeld).

  • Yeah true, I found the same thing with Novation synths, their reverb makes the synth sound a lot more cheesy/light than it really is.

  • Thanks for posting this. I have a Q. Great digital-analog hybrid sound. I think it was a mistake to market it as a VA instrument, when it's sound is more unique than that, and it has such powerful modulation, a superb arpeggiator and sequencer, and the morph mix is amazing.

  • Thats why its marketed as a va vas are more versitile than true analogues (barring well endowed modular systems) An analogue digital hybid is a synth with dco's and analogue filters amps ect. and hell many true analogs suffer from quantization.

  • I meant in comparison not to analog, but other VA synths like the JD-800, or Nord Lead. Synths trying to emulate the sound of an old Prophet-5 for example. But the Q doesn't sound like that. It can, at times, but mostly it is it's own beast. Cheers.

  • Ah I see. I agree, I want new sounding boxes, if I want an old analogue sound I would buy and old analogue or a new one by the same company..

  • Yes, agree completely.

  • By the way the JD-800 is not a VA. It's a sample-based synth with lots of sliders.

  • Thanks for clarifying on the JD-800. I think it does have analog-like waveform samples though, yes? Either that or I'm just confusing it with the JP8000. Maybe both?!

  • The JP8000 is a VA from the late 90's.

The JD800 was released in 1991 and among the factory samples you'll find some samples of analog waveforms (square, sine, saw, different pulses).

It means it can't do oscillator sync or pulse width modulation but it's still a great sample based synth.

  • yeah I'll buy those more expensive ones on tour so I can blame the tech guys for getting them lost or something..haha.. really they cost like a decent guitar- about 3000$ and I don't think they're really incomparably better than this... maybe

  • yeah, I think so too... maybe

  • thanks. yeah there are better reverbs available by TC but this one is really cheap so I might pick up one. I'm a guitarist but I need a reverb unit for live shows too so maybe this really is a nice choice

  • Actually, TC's other products, as M2000 or M3000 may have better quality. But I don't want to carry such a expensive stuff with too much care. It is not compromise, it's balance.

  • how good is m one actually??

  • I bought M-ONE for live performance, so I focused attention on its easy operation. And of course it has so clear , natural and smooth riverb tail. I think it's best choice for this price.

  • Very nice presets much more interesting than my blofeld's presets. Check my Blofeld video as well. I really like the microq keyboard , how much does it cost second hand?

  • Thanks, I checked your movie. The white devil is really nice!! I want to see more. Mine is not a miqroq, it's Q. I bought it around 700USD.

  • Wow, for $700 that's a steal. O_o

  • It was broken. So I repaired it by myself. (^_^)

  • Wow , What was broken? And how you fixed it?

  • Originally it was Q 32 voices. But voice expansion board was broken. so I opened body panel and fix the circuit.

  • it's not a video. it's a picture and music.

  • Nice demo!

What are you using as your audio interface?

  • Thanks!

    It's Edirol FA-66
