I own a TopBoost and..its a pretty cool beastie. But doing the video (and it is a good one,btw)..I wish you'd used passive pickups. I mean, think about it..the whole Vox vibe was 1960s..and the pickups at the time were passive..so..fwiw...that would've been vintage-correct. but hey its 2009..so its cool.
tehsimo :-) ... I can't help but smile at that comment. One of the things people have been asking for about 1 year is mic'd cabs. It's funny ... the very first video that gets mic'd ... someone suggests the camera audio :-) Here are the facts the way I see it. Personally, I think the camera picks up audio the way your ears do, so I DO agree with you. No one puts their ears up to a speaker cabinet, so why should we mic it? But, it does cut down on the background hum & hiss. Thanks man!!
Yeah i like to hear it through the camera because to my ears the mic'd audio sounds very compressed, almost as if you're listening to a distortion pedal directly. But I agree its probably the best way to listen since that mic will "color" the sound less.
Hey DonT - I did. If you click on HQ, you'll see an option to watch it in HD. Am I missing something? If there's another way to do it, let me know - I'm always open to suggestions. Thanks.
the HQ makes it better but not FULL HD which your camera can support. Maybe you can try uploading it at a higher resolution? I have tried uploading some of my videos in HD but none of my attempts succeeded
Wil YT play HD, or only HQ? The problem the way I see it is the file size. I finished the final produced video at NTSC DVD Widwscreen 720x480, which was almost 500mg. Anything larger will be well over a gig. That's a lot of storage space :-) what is 60000kbps in resolution terms? And, why did your HD files fail on the upload? My guess would be b/c they only support up to 1G on the upload.
if you want HD you gotta upload 3000-6000kbit video at 1920×1080 resolution. Preferably with h.264 codec (as its the most commonly used codec, has the best image quality and the smallest file sizes). These settings equate to 720KB per second of video.
If you dont have these requirements youtube will not see it as HD and therefore wont make the HD option available to users.
My last video was about 150mb for 4 mins of 1080P video.
can you try the modules agian now that it sounds better? how about the Ultra by itself! Thankyou for doing all of the Randall vids!!!! Your the best TK!!! I think I really like the Top Boost. But Im all about the cleaner Vox module. Sounds Great!!! Thanks again!!!
sounds great TK! I like the Top Boost. What does that sound like in comparison to your Satriani pedal? Shouldnt they sound pretty close? Do you think the Top Boost really sounds like a Vox? And I thankyou for using active EMGs. So many people have them... at least have one or two guitars with them... it helps for us to hear what it would sound like for us. Can you do a Recto module? I want to know what you think about the modules too. Its ok to post your opinion! since you are TK!
I'm glad you did show how it cleans up which is lacking at times in your reviews. Good clean tone is much more important than distortion IMO. Though you might also use something with single coils since it's more of a "vintage" Vox style module and maybe something with passive pickups. I, personally, don't like the way active pickups hide the tone of a good guitar and it's woods and construction. Just my opinion though and EMGs wouldn't sell so well if others didn't like them.
Really like the new setup. The crossfading of the audio tracks from the camera to the SM57 was a bit choppy and I wondered what was going on for a minute, but the sound difference between your other vids and this is incredible. I third for a vid on how to properly mic an amp, or maybe(if time permitting) the tonal differences made by moving the microphone in relation to the speaker. (dead center at 1", off center at 1", center at 6" to 1' or off center at 6" to 1' from the grill cloth)
is there any compression at all because at sometimes you can hear a sound that is much louder and better sounding.. good job though! can't w8 for other reviews and demos :)
the sound difference is when I cut from the camera mic to the SM57. This was my first cut ... hopefully the future vids will be less obvious. The camera mic is probably what sounds a bit louder, b/c that is the nature of what it does ... but the SM57 captured audio is more 'honest' w/ out the background hum and noise. Thanks !! Have a great wkend.
Your pentatonic riffing is awe inspiring. Do you ever jam in the altered flatulent minor mixophrigian mode? And I do love this top boost module "vox" sound. Gotta keep a' runnin! RAWK ON BRO!
The audio quality is so much better! Do you think you can make a tutorial on how to mic an amp while recording a video? Like how to use the software and audio recorder with the mic? I would appreciate it.

what's teh sense to try a VOX AC30 like with such a guitar????
Who buys an AC30 will never play it with that... At least I personally wouldn't.

I don´t want to be mean, but it is getting pretty annoying when you play the same lick in all your videos!
But it is great shootouts!!
And Great Demos!

Does the floyd stay in tune very well or not?
STKC333 2 years ago
assuming its set up right, a floyd will stay in tune for months, only requiring occasional tweaks from the fine tuners

My HD files were under 1 gig but I guess the resolution was a bit smaller than 1920x1080 which was why it didn't work.

What kind of cables do you use? I've never seen a cable that looks so flat going into a guitar(the angled section)
I've been having trouble with some cables causing breaking up(usually when I'm at a gig and it sucks to have to tell people your cables suck)
