  • Hi I know i don't need to partition if im booting from sd dir...but will partitioning increase speed or help speed

  • @brittanyluvstobi If you are booting from sd dir (fat32), you will not need to partition as that would not do anything.

  • I would like to format my SD to ext3, because I want to create symbolic links (the fat32 doesn't support it) on some folders. Any 1 knows if it is ok with Android (since it uses a linux kernel...I guess there's no prob, but I'm not sure).

  • @asphixmx Android only detects fat32 for the first partition (the partition that you store files, music, videos). You cannot change that to ext3. If symbolic links don't work for you (ln -s or ln), then try to use the mount to "symlink" directories (google on usage, usage on linux is slightly different than android, use mount -o bind)

  • @CnChenn Thanks for your reply.

  • My pc shows the removable disk "Android" with only 1 gb space in it. when i locate it using minitool, it shows 3 partitions. Fat32, ext2 and about 6 GB unallocated. What about the unallocated space ?? How can I use it ?

  • @harshdave If you have a custom recovery installed, such as CWM or AMON_RA, you can just use that to partition your sdcard much easier.. All data will be deleted so back it up first, and then partition your sdcard in recovery.

  • can anyone tell me where i can find the ext part of the sd card in a manager app or on the phone to delete some stuff please..if thats even possible...any help appreciated

  • I tried this for milestone, tried ext2 and ext3 and in Link2sd mount script cannot be created

    mount: no such device

ext2 may not be supported on your device. try fat32 on the second partition

    any ideas??

  • @Excluded20 It may be that the kernel does not support it. I am not sure since I don't own a milestone myself, but check with your developer if the kernel has ext2.ko.

  • we have the same wallpaper on my android phone hehe

  • why can't someone do a FULL tutorial???? Full means partition, insert into android device, and prove that your method works!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • @1brainsurgeon1 It does work.. It just depends on your rom. It may work for me, and other people, but it may not work for you ;)

  • awsome .... ibut still not enough space for me... so how to do next?

  • @fuxuan97 Buy a bigger sdcard :)

  • Comment removed

  • Yes you can format it however you need i just did my 8gb for an old G1 cause it was free and i simply did 4gb to the FAT32, 2gb to Ext2, and the rest to my linux swap

  • sorry didn't read full vid info "FIXED"

  • what to do if i have a 4gb card, should i alocate the 1GB partition in the movie to something like 2.89gb?

  • i used my x10 mini for partioning...im having a 2gb sd card....i tried many ways to create partition like fat32/ext2,fat32/ext3,fat32/ext3,fat32/fat32,fat/fat32,fat/ext2....all i get in my fone is blank sd card!!!....wat to do....hw to create 2nd partition!!??

  • Partition manager wizard is really a good thing, MiniTool partition manager wizard is a good choice for you. It is easy to use and it is efficient. Some editions are FREEEEE. Any of you who need it can have a try.

  • how to partion my android galaxy 5

  • @tanishksharmatanishk If you are partitioning for Apps2SD, then all you would have to do is to follow the video, but instead of formatting the second partition to ext2, you would have to format to ext3 or ext4 (depending on your kernel support).

  • easdasd

  • heya, i tried everuthing so far, but would like some help tho. i installed everything as explained, and still android aint booting, it keeps ending with the message; kernel panic not syncing no init found. try passing init option to kernel. anyone know how to fix this?

    thanks

  • @smoezie nvm got it working, after i did a complete wipe on my phone and putting it back to original settings.

  • I've got Samsung Galaxy 551

and I have done this format

It not working probably with link2SD apps

    anyone could help me ??!

  • @nig3r What did you format the second partition as? Does the rom/kernel support ext3 or ext2 or even have apps2sd at all? Please tell me a bit more so I can help you :)

  • @CnChenn thank u for your respond

I have manged to make it working by adding EX3 partition to work it for my mobile " Samsung Galaxy 551"

Also I was rushing link2SD to identify the formatted sd card ,,,it need more time than I thought to recognize partition

now I can enjoy 3 GB of android apps .... HELL YAAAAAAAAAA !!!!

I have Question about 32GB ... is it good also for partition ?? or stick with 16GB for speeding the processing ??

  • @nig3r It depends on the class of the sdcard. If you have a class 4 32GB, and the 16GB is class 6/8/10, then I would recommend sticking with the 16GB because it is faster and you would experience less lag when loading android apps located on sd-ext.

  • @nig3r just partition fat 32 no need to do other things as long as u r using 2.1 android

  • nvm

  • how come those partitions combined arent 3.7gigs anymore? its much less

  • Come on, no Mac version?

  • After apply - in partition manager i have only 1 part. Primary - Fat32 (ANDROID) ... it's normal? i try it 3 times, and try format - anyway finally have 1 partition.

  • @sukabliati Under windows, Only the Fat32 Partition will show as mountable, but in minitool partition manager, it will show all 3 partitions.. You have to define the sizes of the partitions so that the fat32 is the largest, ext2/3 is 512, and linuxswap is 64.

  • @CnChenn : Partition manager after apply show's only 1 part - fat32, but android work's. BUT ... after 1 day show time incorrect -20 min, not workking 3G internet (only wi-fi) and 80% of aplications not works (HTC Touch Diamond p3700) . i deleted it, but anyway big thanx, and sorry for my english. :)

  • @sukabliati Which build are you using?

  • @CnChenn : name of archive - cm6-25062010.rar - from neopeek dot com

  • @CnChenn : sorry - i wanna install its like ROM, and delete WM. but on neopeek forum don't open links on instructions - [ROM] FRG83-Build R7 Froyo2.2.2 [06-03-11]. You have it? thnx.

  • @sukabliati You can't delete windows mobile just yet, you must still boot windows mobile to load haret to load android. Instructions here: .neopeek.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=524#p525 but it is for cyanogenmod rom, but it is generally the same instructions ;) Just some steps are not needed.

  • @CnChenn ok, thnx! but how i can delete wm after install android rom? it's possible withous android crash?

  • @CnChenn :)) sorry . Strange things -

[ROM] FRG83-Build R7 Froyo2.2.2 - i unpack it in storage card of my phone. copy diam500 startup in SC. But when i run - install - phone just rebooting and starts WM normally.

  • @sukabliati Have you tried flashing another WM rom? I've never seen this problem before.

  • if i add more than 64mb at linuxswap does it matter?

or it must be extactly 64mb?

  • @mRthELEOS It does not matter, you can add up to 256mb if you like but it will not have much performance gain. The minimum size is 64mb. It only helps if you have a fast sdcard (Class 6 or above). If you are using neopeek ext2 builds, linuxswap partition is not enabled.

  • thr is no ext4... so i tried ext2... but then also it tells me to format my mobile... i want to ask whether is works on unlocked mobile...

  • @qwertyuioptubelight Oh, my bad, ext3 :) (ext4 is best, but this program does not have it, ext3 is next best but slightly slower journaling). It will work on an unlocked mobile (there is no relationship between using apps2ext and your radio) but only on rooted rom.

  • hey after partitioning... when i safely remove the drive... on my mobile it shows 'Blank SD card' SD card blank or has unsupported filsystem. when i click it, it says format SD card... what should i do. i have HTC Aria 2.1

  • @qwertyuioptubelight Here are a few basic things to check for after partitioning: 1) Fat32 must be partitioned first, ext4 second, and linuxswap last. 2) All partitions are set as primary 3) Try deleting all partitions first, then click apply, then format it in the order I did in the video, and then click apply again last. If it still does not work, just ask. :)

  • Thanks for the tip! now i can run my apps off the SDcard

  • Why do you leave so much unallocated space?

Isn't this a waste of space?

I'll allocate it to the FAT32 partition. I hope it doesn't mind.

  • I have tried this method a few times but to no avail... The end result will always merge all the created partition (FAT32 + ext2 + linuxswap) into one FAT32... I hope someone can assist me here... It's been bugging me... I initially thought that it was because of the card reader so I bought a data cable... but still giving me the same end result... I would appreciate any ideas... Thanks in advance =)

  • @iroxen7 Click apply after you finish creating the partitions (It is basically a layout until you click apply, to actually apply the layout to the sd card).

  • @iroxen7 I can confirm this. The MiniTool Partition Wizard doesn't seem to show the newly created ext2 and swap partitions. They are there though. Check the diskmanager (diskmgmt.msc) in Windows to confirm this.

  • @iroxen7 same problem lal :S

  • tnx

  • Hi... I opened the program after connecting my phone to my pc via usb. The partition program doesn't see the phone though... ie. It only displays Disk 1 (c: and recovery). I'm using an HTC Diamond and am running windows mobile currently.

  • @r0b0t02 You must set your device to "USB Mass Storage", not activesync, for your computer to view the storage partition of the diamond.

  • @CnChenn Thanks. You're the man

  • @r0b0t02 no problem :)

  • @CnChenn where can I find the option usb mass storage??

  • @MegaDavidfunk Go to Settings, then connections, then you should see usb to pc connection somewhere, just poke around and in the USB settings, there are three settings: Activesync, Usb Mass storage, and some other (i forget). Choose usb mass storage. Sorry if I am not clear, I do not have my htc fuze/tp anymore because I bricked it playing around with nand.

  • My card reader is not working. So I connected phone in Memory Access Mode and created partitions but when the process reaches near 80% phone reboots. Any solutions??

Does order matter I first created ext2,linuxswap and then fat32??

  • @jackfrost3821 Yes, it does matter if you created fat32 or ext2 first because the ext2 partition must be the second partition because the android system is by default installed on the second partition, ext2, from the install.exe. If it is not, android will not boot.

    So the order is: 1) fat32 2) ext2 3) linuxswap

I hope the cleared some things up for you :)

  • How big the linuxswap, and the ext2 should be on a 16 gb memory card? And if i do the partitions like this i put the apps to ext2 right? And the music to fat32?

Sorry i'm new to android and i'm going to have my first android phone like in 2 weeks.

  • @bencehun 16 GB = 16384 MB so set Fat32 partition at 15720 mb, ext2 at 600 mb, and linuxswap at 64 mb.

If you are using a neopeek build, you can just put the apps in the "AndroidApps" folder on fat32 and it will install automatically on boot. You can also put music anywhere on the fat32 partition.

Ext2 partition is considred the "system" and the fat32 partition is the actual "sd card".

    I hope that helped :)

  • @CnChenn Ahh, okay many thanks! :D

And one more question, is there any benefit if i make bigger partitions for ext2 and linuxswap? Or it doesn't count and they should be 600/64?

  • @bencehun Technically, it doesn't really affect how big ext2 is but 600 is more than enough (normal is 528mb) if you download a lot of stuff from market (as the files are saved one ext2 partition). Some people say that if you make the ext2 partition too big, android won't work but I have never experienced the problem before. Linuxswap should always be a set size of 64mb but it isn't used in most android builds because it damages flash memory over time.

I hope that also helped :)

  • @CnChenn Thanks again.:)

  • If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask.

  • I connected my phone but cannot see the drive for my phone just c drive! I synced it and everything nothing works

  • @javet Do not use activesync but instead use "mass storage" mode

  • ..after the partition, i always get on fat32 disk with the entire mem space oO

    any solution?!

  • @f000ka delete all partitions first, then click apply

create an fat32, ext2, linuxswap partitions and then apply

Try that instead of applying everything at the end.

  • thanx for the video.......it really helps
