  • I don't stop unless they are IN the crosswalk if they are waiting to cross and my light is green I GO. Where I live people have a BAD habit of not looking before they walk out into traffic. I think the responsibly should lie more with the pedestrian and less with the driver. It's allot easier for you to stop your feet than it is for me to stop my 4,000 lb SUV.

  • No traffic lights on these cross walks?

  • This is a engineering flaw. They need to install traffic signals for the exclusive use for pedestrians. If there's no traffic signals then how do drivers know when to stop.

  • @jackiechan511 That may be true, but it doesn't give them the right to not follow the law. That's like saying "I'm not going to stop for this red octagon thing because I don't know what to do at it, but I'll stop at that red light because it's the law". Ignorance of the law does not protect you from it.

  • Most of the people driving must have been from Germany, where the car has the right of way, and pedestrians must move out of the way. Honestly, I think the Germans have it right...

  • Good one

  • The red car does NOT stop cause the red car's driver doesn't have x-ray vision eyes and can't see the pedestrian hiding behind the black SUV.

  • @fdlkfoo

I'm assuming that a driver has a full view of the crosswalk. Having to stop when you can see nobody else is walking there is a bit moronic.

  • @logik316 Not all people can see as good as yourself and it's best to be safe then sorry plus always give yourself plenty of time to make your errands so that you can stop to make sure there is no one else coming.and further more the video shows the first cars in front stopped I'm talking about that red car that kept on going though.what if there was person in a wheelchair you think you can see though a truck or any larger vehicle's in your way?

  • The guy had already walked past the red car, so why would he have needed to stop?

  • dont change nuthing, people will only realised their mistake on the jailcell

  • I see what you mean. However that is a very poorly made crosswalk.

  • There's a similar problem at 33rd Avenue & Fulton Street

  • I agree with this video. However, in crowded cities like San Francisco, some pedestrians abuse this right of way privilege, by walking across the road at an usually slow pace until they are back on the sidewalk. This causes a lot of drivers to stereotype the pedestrians for their slow crossing. And if all cars were to yield for every single pedestrian like the ones I mention, there would be a major traffic congestion.

  • On those so-busy intersections you mention, there are better solutions, such as a pedestrian traffic signal, or even a catwalk.

  • We are more likely to get accident when stopping at the crosswalk because of the tailgaters.

  • These laws are stupid. Crosswalks are places for pedestrians to yield to traffic and cross, not be yielded to. I always yield to cars when I'm a pedestrian.

  • @jasonc0065 Yeah, it's far easier to simply stop walking than for a 3,000-lb. projectile to come to a complete stop. But on the other hand, there are some streets that are sooooo busy, no one could ever cross them without having to sprint to dodge cars. Don't know; both sides have valid arguments.

  • @jasonc0065 All states, I'm 99 percent sure, but you must yield to pedestrians. It's a courteous and safe thing to do. A car can move alot faster than a pedestrian. A cross walk is basically a traffic signal for pedestrians to cross. Share the road! If you had to yield to every car I don't think you'd get to where you need to go.

  • This intersection needs a traffic light that changes when A pedestrian presses the cross button.

  • @Friendly0Dan Agreed! On a busy street like that, I would only want to use a crosswalk that is connected to a traffic light. Even if a vehicle in the far right lane sees you and stops, drivers to their left may continue on...at full-speed.

  • look at 1:27 the white truck was trying to turn left and blocking the lanes coming from the right. such a fail

  • The thing is you have stupid ass people that choose to walk so damn slow they are almost moving backwards just because they know they have right of way. And the fact that they are old nobody wants to wait for them to cross.

  • Ok, I know to yeild in this situation when I drive in Cali. But what happens when I do and the jackass behind me rear ends me b/c he is too stupid to know the law? You have a catch 22.

  • Hey, that pedestrian had already passed before the red car got there! Was that pedestrian going to stop all of a sudden and start walking backwards?

  • I love it when pedestrians give me the finger or curse at me when I don't stop to let them walk through the cross walk, cuz they all know that if they get hit they could die. Makes sense. The road is for traffic not people. Go to anyother country and see how much right of way peds have. Traffic laws should be based on the rules of physics not wishful thinking.

  • I strongly believe that most if not all cities need to double the amount of traffic cops doing the job. Not only that but also use camera red light stops. And add radar camera tickets also.

All the lights should be set so the e/w traffic goes to read the n/s wont go to green for 15 seconds or so. That way the people who are running the red have a chance to clear the intersection. It has helped stop a lot accidents here by doing that

  • An unmarked crosswalk is at an intersection. It is the projection of the sidewalk to where the sidewalk continues on the far side of the road. (This is not to be confused with a Midblock Crossing, which is a crosswalk painted across the road between intersections - in the middle of the block.)

Crossing multiple lane streets does require extra care because of the Muliple Threat situation. Peds need to cross one lane at a time, making sure the car in the next lane has stopped before proceeding.

  • Oh no.. I can't look!!! I mean, where are the traffic signals? People do not stop, thinking that there is no traffic signal even though there is a crosswalk with someone waiting to cross the damn street. If I stop to let the Ped cross while drivers continue to pass me by, would I be at fault for trying to let the Ped go to the safety of the crosswalk on the other side? Even if he tried to cross the road only to be hit by a passing vehicle on my right?

  • I have a question, what exactly is an "unmarked crosswalk"? Because if it's at an intersection then that's fine. But anyone crossing where there is no crosswalk even at a median BETWEEN streets I feel I should not have to stop for. It's called jaywalking. Jaywalkers can yell about right of way all they want, it isn't going to matter much when they're laid up in the hospital with 23 broken bones or dead because someone didn't see them crossing or didn't care.

  • That intersection looks like it needs traffic lights.

  • People are never going to get it: stop for pedestrians, it'll only take ten seconds out of your day.

  • The city of S.F. should put up traffic signals and pedestrian crossing signals at that intersection.

  • thx for posting this its a major problem in north cali too
