While I am a devoted fan of The Andy Griffith Show, and even knew that Andy and Helen had eventually gotten married, I NEVER KNEW Andy (and Helen) had a child!!! WOW!
Today is the first time I've EVER seen this full episode of Mayberry RFD to realize this. Wow. :)
The alternative episode that they decided not to go with had Goober drop the baby and broke it's neck. It gurgeld and flogged around and soon died! The writers decided that this was kind of a downer for a comedy show... so they did not do it!....
@ 4:07 goober says "He said dada before he was 2 years old," on the andy griffith show it says he didn't talk before he was 5 on the episode "a baby in the house" on season 6

@intergalacticpig447 As I recall Opie and his classmates did'nt like old lady Crump.because of all the homework she assigned them..esp. history...she came to the sheriff's office to bitch at him for telling the boys not to do they're homework..that was the first time Andy laid eye's on her.
@jjcatful Exactly right.....they really met on their own like you said. Barny and Thelma Lou then arranged for them to come to dinner at the same time...(in another episode) And Barny tried to tell Andy Helen was no good for him because she didn't cook.
Mayberry R.F.D. stands for "Flogging a dead horse". Don Knotts & Jim Nabors left the Andy Griffiths series then Andy Griffiths leaves and we're left with a three legged horse gasping for breath. The producers just didn't know when to say goodbye. The series should have ended long before RFD was even thought of. Rather than quit on a high point they had to squeeze every last dollar out of it.
