NEAT! The Bloom was literally separated from my Parents' back yard by a 10 foot wide alley. The tracks are about 12 feet up an embankment and I can remember having my Mom beat the hell out of me as a real young kid (5 or 6) as I would go right to the base of the "hill" to watch those trains run by. I also remember later on when Conrail ran trains there that there was a guy in a caboose who always threw us candy. After a lot of tie replacement in the late 70's the line seemed to die.
I live about a quarter of a mile from the branch in Kingston. I havn't seen a train over there in years. When the D-L used it. They were over there almost every week.
The horn sounds like the Erie Alco F abba units from around 1963 that ran freight out of Marion. I lived right next to the tracks where the passenger trains would stop at the Galion depot. Loved the sounds of the Alco PA units at idle. Then the smoke show when they were notched up. Great stuff. Great memories.
I lived in Kenton, and Galion,Ohio as a child. Both towns had the EL and PC running through. I never recall many F type units, but I sure remember lots of E units from both RR's coming from Marion going towards Crestline to Pittsburgh.Boy if I would of thought of taking some pics! Lots of action.
Oh my gosh! I had forgotten what these beauties sounded like! And you can tell in the film scenes how the units rocked on those age old tracks even then. Clearly a sign of need of maintenance, but they had to do what they had to do with the costs they had. Politics, money, all that sought the demise of these Loves. It tears at my heart these units served their purpose and live on in our hearts and minds. Some found new life. Just like us as we age and grow character as these beauties did.
Ed, Thank You for posting that footage. Those images are priceless to me because I grew up within sight of the Bloom and watched nearly every train go up and down that line during the 60's and 70's. Fantastic Stuff!!!!!

The Leslie A-200 "honker" horn is a cool, classic touch! Anyone know if any of these F units survived?

Wow, seeing those old F units and that GP7 brought back a lot of memories! Saw them quite a bit as a kid growing up in the early 70s!
