I hope you pursue your dream to the fullest. It has been a tremendous life experience for my son (the one on the end) and everyone else I know who has done it. Be sure to participate in every summer session you can get to prior to trying out, and, if possible, have someone make videos so you can monitor your own progress. Work hard and good luck. WB!
It's fast (180 beats/minute), precise, and definitely the least gay style of marching you will ever see. It has been widely adopted at the college level. Unfortunately the drum corps international program has brainwashed HS bands to adopt a style that is really walking rather than marching.
I'm in the percussion section of the OSU athletic band, I've seen tryouts, and I've played that music. The ramp entrance is one of the most challenging marching drills ever. Especially if you are in percussion. The entire percussion section has to be so perfectly in time with eachother for this to work, and yet every ramp entrance is amazing to watch. I hope to be out there someday.
@ender4400 NEVER GIVE UP! YOU CAN MAKE IT! If you think you're beaten, you are, If you think you dare not, you don't. If you'd like to win, but think you can't, It's almost for sure, you won't. If you think you're outclassed, you are, You've got to think high to rise. You have to stay with it, In order to win the prize. Life's battles don't always go, To the one with the better plan. For more often than not, you will win, If only you think you can.
Longhorn fan as well. I think that you guys have a wonderful University and I have nothing but respect for the way you handle business. Best of luck dealing with these unfortunate allegations, and I am sure you will be back on your feet in no time. Hook'em!
Texas Longhorn fan here. I must say, that is one of the best if not the best band entrances that I have ever seen. It gives you chills once the band kicks in and starts marching down the field. Impressive. Hook'em!
darn, i was hoping i could see this when nebraska plays ohio state next year. oh well, maybe the year afterwards, assuming we'll play ohio state at home that year.
I envy any high school marching band player who gets to perform here. I'm a sousaphone player and a HUGE OSU fan, and be only really big place we got to play at was in the old Medowlands Stadium in 2007
i played there too...our directors failled to remember that the hashes are different so our show sucked.as a current buckeye though it is coolto say that i played there!
that is the only time i have seen the stadium not jam packed while that is going on, I live and Columbus and go to 1 or two games a year. It is waaaaaaaaaaaay better in person.
This was recorded at a band competition at the Shoe in early October (not at a regular OSU football game). That's why the stadium is not filled with people (which also explains why you can hear the music so well). I recorded the same scene at a real game a week or two prior and, as you can imagine, the crowd noise drowns out much of the musical clarity. I may post it anyway since it gives a better picture of the band's ramp entrance on game day with 105,000 cheering fans. GO BUCKS!
hey jirow fan!!! you are the bomb!! i have been waiting for a video like this for a long time! i played snare drum at port clinton high school back in 1982 and that opening pregame drum cadence is the same one we used for our pre-game show. of course our band director played there also! great job again and thanks from the bottom of my heart. go bucks!!!
Watching The Band enter to that cadence is absolutely amazing and to think they do it in front of a stadium of 105,000 screaming fans makes it even MORE IMPRESSIVE. The OSU Band is clearly in A Class of Their Own. But than again, The Team, The Horseshoe and a Rabid Fanbase only makes it EVEN MORE SPECIAL. Love The Buckeyes!

The marching style requires the drums to be worn high to keep them off the knees.

Interesting how the snares are held in such a position. Is there a benefit to such a posture? I have never seen that before.....

I like their style..
but i dont like the way they walk... just like some very gay people
bartjuhhf 5 months ago
@bartjuhhf I've never seen anyone, gay or straight, walk like that. It's called "marching."
