It's not dead-accurate to the original text, no, but then part of that lies in literature being a different media than film (literature describes inner-thoughts, motivations, visual details in different ways than does film). What's more, the original text is somewhat vague on a few points- Grendel's mother's appearance for instance- so some liberties had to be taken, of course. By no means does this modern retelling "suck." I, too, took a Early English Literature course in college. ;)

beowulf is epic, and just an amazing movie but it's not realy as close to the poem as it should be.. 1. beowulf kills grendel's mother in the poem, he does not make her pregnant, and 2. beowulf is a prince of geatland in sweeden and after killing grendels mother, he returns to he's home and becomes king, but the movie kick so mutch ass it makes you forgett about it :)
Well the script writers said that they had to change some things to make the script good for this movie... The movie "Beowulf and Grendel" is closer to poem. This one wasn't that close but I think that the script is pretty good anyway... :)

yeah I agree with you hackett110. I wasn't that keen on 300 (way to many greasy spartans LOOOOL) and bear in mind Beowulf was written in the 7th-10th century and is one of many great Norse legends. And be greatful you had Angelina Jolie as the succubus that seduces Beowulf it could have been the one out of the book looooool she deffo did not look as beautiful as Angelina did loooool :D

Yeah, you're right about Angelina not being in it enough with her hot nakedness (despite it being CG). But still, the animation is State of the art, so I don't think you can call it bad animation. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to put you down, I'm just saying, you may want to re-examine the negative aspects (that you saw) of the film. Because it was pretty epic, and just about as perfect a movie you could get from what they had. BTW, I thought it was Awesome! But you probably know that. :)
Dude! The acting was superb! Look at the cast. Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Angelina Jolie, Crispin Glover, and so on, and so forth. They're all great actors.

The Movie is realy good but the animations are sometimes cheap and on the Faces you can often see the CGI effects, the girls often looking to much perfect as in "Shrek". Guys of "CGI" take a look on your physic-animations, they are unreal!!!
The Movie is amazing, I loved the Szene when Grendel get angry his an her screams get you fear a little bit, sometimes realy hard when he ripp the Body in twice and slash him to an warrior, that was a bit disgusting, but in the old world it might be could so. But Dragons? hmmm a bit to much fantasy, there was the Version from "the 13th Warrior" a bit better, thousand Man with torches they look like a Dragon comes the reality more at hand. The Humor in this Movie is nice and dirty too. ^^
there's a BIG difference between twisting the story a little, like some different lines between the movie version and the book, and something like when in the book, beowulf and grendel's mother fought, but in the movie, she seduced him. big freakin' difference.
I felt like I was watching a Playstation 2 Video when watching this movie. I must admit that I was disappointed. It was like watching a whole RPG story. The Queen's and the other girl's face that slept with Beowulf seem sooooo surreal. More or less it was like Final Fantasy, but with a little bit better graphic.

yeah I agree with you hackett110. I wasn't that keen on 300 (way to many greasy spartans LOOOOL) and bear in mind Beowulf was written in the 7th-10th century and is one of many great Norse legends. And be greatful you had Angelina Jolie as the succubus that seduces Beowulf it could have been the one out of the book looooool she deffo did not look as beautiful as Angelina did loooool :D

LMFAO. The only thing that was original about 300 was the use of CGI. Maybe all those oily men clouded your mind.
Beowulf was fantastic, and the story is basically the basis of every fantasy story told since it's creation.

Yeah, you're right about Angelina not being in it enough with her hot nakedness (despite it being CG). But still, the animation is State of the art, so I don't think you can call it bad animation. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to put you down, I'm just saying, you may want to re-examine the negative aspects (that you saw) of the film. Because it was pretty epic, and just about as perfect a movie you could get from what they had. BTW, I thought it was Awesome! But you probably know that. :)

Dude! The acting was superb! Look at the cast. Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Angelina Jolie, Crispin Glover, and so on, and so forth. They're all great actors.

Hmmm i havnt seen it so I dont know if its a good reprisentation of that my and the rest of england's Anglo-Saxon ancestors wrote but personally i think it would have been better if when he said Beowulf if he dragged it on for another few seconds like this I AM BEOWUUULF lol but i dont know if that would go with his voice so i dont know for sure lol.

the only good scene from the movie at my view was when he slashed the hydra and yell BEOWULF!!!! all covered in blood!! :D...but the rest was crap!... :/

btw. I hate when english speaking actors roll the "R", is this the only aczent they can make? This "SAGA" (not History or Mythology) comes from the Northlands, WENT to denmark ask someone to speak a few english words and you know HOW they must have like to hear. MORE REALISTIC GUYS! Or make it in one language only like Mel Gibson in "Passion of the Christ", can you read subtitles? *lol*

The Movie is realy good but the animations are sometimes cheap and on the Faces you can often see the CGI effects, the girls often looking to much perfect as in "Shrek". Guys of "CGI" take a look on your physic-animations, they are unreal!!!

The Movie is amazing, I loved the Szene when Grendel get angry his an her screams get you fear a little bit, sometimes realy hard when he ripp the Body in twice and slash him to an warrior, that was a bit disgusting, but in the old world it might be could so. But Dragons? hmmm a bit to much fantasy, there was the Version from "the 13th Warrior" a bit better, thousand Man with torches they look like a Dragon comes the reality more at hand. The Humor in this Movie is nice and dirty too. ^^

there's a BIG difference between twisting the story a little, like some different lines between the movie version and the book, and something like when in the book, beowulf and grendel's mother fought, but in the movie, she seduced him. big freakin' difference.

I felt like I was watching a Playstation 2 Video when watching this movie. I must admit that I was disappointed. It was like watching a whole RPG story. The Queen's and the other girl's face that slept with Beowulf seem sooooo surreal. More or less it was like Final Fantasy, but with a little bit better graphic.

this movies is damn great dude!!!!!!!!this story starts when da 1st king make a deal with angelina jolie(i forgot her name in this movie)grendal was the son of the 1st king...then the dragon at the end of the story is the son of the 2nd king(beowolf)...his assistance,the fat guy in this movie,will be the 3rd king,the last king...but,i still wanna see beowolf defeat the girl(angelina jolie)with his bare hand!!!

The epic is a really long poem telling a story. So, it is a story.
Note that I said ENGLISH class, not history.
Who cares if it's not real, as long as it's readable, any story can be taught in an English class.
