It honestly would not be hard to re-make a Type 95. I could understand if they needed to remodel a FAMAS or AUG rifle for the purpose, since the new Chinese weapons are pretty rarely known. But, do they really need to cop out and give them AK's?
One of the great things about the first movie was the accuracy of the weapons and equipment used. If this does not follow suit, well, it would definitely affect my reception to the film.
The reason the PLA uses the AK-74 in the Red Dawn remake because the movie is based on a theoretical Russian and Chinese joint invasion of the U.S., so using the same battle rifle would make complete sense from a tactical standpoint(that's my theory). But the idea of High School students fighting for freedom is so ABSURD and INANE. Immature High School brats maintaining complicated munitions and having bold, competent leadership to lead raids on the invasion forces. They'd be cut to ribbons.

There are still a large surplus of Type79 rifles (improved AK-47) around, but they are no longer the standard issue. They are being used for the reserves. This film is inaccurate though: the helmets are way outdated and the PLA never uses AK-74!
QBZ 95 means it is designated in 1995. Put it simply, it is 15 years ago. AK blows comparing to 95 due to its recoil and lack of accuracy. The army is not stupid.

trust me, the Chinese are still using mostly and will continue to use the AK47 and type 56 for a long LOOOONG time. the QBZ95 phasing proccess is much longer than you guys think.

@wizzzer1337 Dude, you're wrong. The QBZ95 is now standard equipment among the PLA, trust me. Even the People's Armed Police forces are now issued Type 95 as standard equipment. There are still a large surplus of Type79 rifles (improved AK-47) around, but they are no longer the standard issue. They are being used for the reserves. This film is inaccurate though: the helmets are way outdated and the PLA never uses AK-74!

QBZ 95 means it is designated in 1995. Put it simply, it is 15 years ago. AK blows comparing to 95 due to its recoil and lack of accuracy. The army is not stupid.

But extremely dependent on China, and vice-versa. In either case, neither country would want any form of conflict between them since both invested so much in each others... this movie is pretty ridiculous as far as political realism goes.
However, considering the Red Army isn't quite what it used to be anymore and China is in the eyes of the media a rising military super power which obvious goal is to compete with American weapons.

I think it's more awkward to make a movie about going to war with a country, China, that neither has the military capability or political interest for engaging in armed conflict with their most important trading partner, the USA. It's an absurd idea no matter how you look at it. That said, we're not allies. But as nations, we have become superfused--our economic fates intertwined.

Yes, the US and China are not allies, but I believe its just a little weird to make a movie about each other in the sense of them invading our country? The whole Red Dawn pretext is a little silly, as we'd definitely nuke the enemy before US soil was ever invaded by conventional troops.
That said, we are not immune from tyranny and "enemies within" and yeah, that includes communists. Just have a gander at the people Obama likes to hang out with.

Transformers was filmed in L.A, Detroit, and Canada, but it ovbiously dosen't take place in Canada.
