  • theres on brown belts in taekowdo trust me ive been in itf taekowndo for six years i got a black stripe

  • Roundhouse or... ROADHOUSE!

  • Oh good greif...different styles and even different schools in the same style call the same kicks different things, a turning kick and a round kick are the same thing. Use some common sense and quit trolling.

  • This kick is called a turning kick, and u explain correctly that the power should come from the hips but u dont demonstrate it...

  • @davidtkdscotland Dude this is a round kick

  • most popular kick in taekwondo

  • Can't all instructors agree about the same name for one kick? Good, useful tutorials.

  • this kick is called turning kick because in my dojang/club also we call it turning kick

  • @520Vijay a turning kick is another name for a roundhouse kick not a round kick. turning/roundhouse kicks are a rotational kick i.e spinning. this is more of a linear kick, notice he doesnt turn he stays facing the same direction. look up roundhouse kick to see an example of a turning kick.

  • @sammiedodgers This can be a turning kick too. Not all turning kicks are done spinning. The turning kick your talking about is a back-leg turning kick spinning to the front.

  • I THINK THAT KICK IS CALLED A TURNING KICK BECAUSE IN TKD ITS WE CALL IT A TURNING KICK NOT A ROUND HOUSE KICK

  • @ICET100 thats not a turning kick he didnt turn what so ever...

  • @ICET100 wth are u tlking bout u make no sense at all bro....it's not a "turning kick" or round house it's jus a round kick...watch kwonkicker's vids

  • I was taught to curl my toes so I kick with the ball of my foot

  • ...its not his balance that is impressive to me it is his hip strength ... i am having a hard time with that

  • Ok good... I'm understand...

  • That not a round kick. You kick with your back leg in a round kick

  • its a round house kick

  • balance is so good, cool . This kick name is mawashi geri ;)

  • @kaukolyte in karate. Not in KF or TKD

  • Awesome dude!

  • Very very good lesson. excellent technique

  • KICK THE DAMN DUMMY!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL FOOTS!!!!!!!!!!

  • you do not hit with toes in TKD nor karate.

the same kick used for breaking is slightly different but you never hit with toes

except maybe for some ancient kung fu style

  • you say you can brake your toes (noooooooooot true ) karate kick has a kick like this but with toes pointed outword ( dont talk a baut something you dont know ) :D

  • @jansssr ,have you tried kicking with your toes full blast ??, to use toes to hit target, it need toe strenghtening practice to endure impact.. .we dont use our toes to kick so we dont strengten it, we just use it to bounce,. will you use your finger to punch not your fist?? only if you strenghten your finger.. if you believe karatedo doing it, not in tkd.. so we dont teach novice to do it. and if in other art do use their toes, we dont... you are the one talking nonsense.

  • @jansssr you shouldn't talk about something you don't know. lol

  • @Kniitte Actually i know beacuse im a Karate brown belt :) so dont be smart ;)

  • @jansssr Is BROWN belt suppose to make me feel like you're qualified to say such thing?

  • @Kniitte LINK: just write in the search bar mawashi geri and click the first one !!!

  • @Kniitte yes it does fucking idiot !!! write in the search box Mawashi geri and click the first one and you will see Idiot

  • i have a question how do i get my sidekick that hight. ive been trying to learn hwo to do splits to get higher kicks.. the techniques work fine for like a round house kick. but when it comes to doing a kick like that its hurts... the flexiblity isnt there i need help with that. basically for head kicks.

  • 3rd dan...good work man, great balance, nice video

  • people google bren foster... this guy is rubbish nxt2 him

  • this was the kick I learned on my first taekwondo lesson <3

  • que lixo ^^

  • pfff, his balance is pretty good

  • one is fighting technique and technique for formes and power breaking. In fighting technique we hit vith instep bone, in power breaking and form technique we kick vith the sole pad.

  • @TheMiSk0 He is shoing fighting technique if you vant to do proper kick you have to kick in 45° angel....

  • good split stretch contributes to one-foot balance with other leg high. I don't agree with the toe's straight comment. Toes bent backwards .. strike with ball or outer edge of foot - depending on kick. Develop tons of power with good fast hip rotation in this kick. Toes back tho. His guard is kinda weak. Elbows out more - arms out more too. His fist is oddly cocked too. But you gotta get past his kick to capitalize on this less-than-ideal defense.

  • One thing he does wrong, he says not to try to kick with your footpad. By the reality is that if trained well, it can be more deadly than kicking with the ball of the foot.

    //mmacritic

  • @mmacritics and in my taekwondo kick they teach the round kick with the footpad and for style(poomesees) with the bal of the foot

    //judo(12 years)/taekwondo(8 years) specialist

  • He needs to ball his fists tighter and not have his thumbs out like that,...Fail...

  • his guard is rather um... feminine

  • i thought the second kick would be the fast kick

  • haya :D

    awesome

  • use your back leg combined with the swing of your hips for KO potential

  • i can't do a round kick with my left leg :(

  • Hey, not any martial arts are perfect, there are both strengths and weaknesses that are easy to point out. If there was any technique that did not have a flaw, everyone would just use that technique and there wouldn't be so many varieties. So it's best to not say any style is the best, but having multiple styles to cover all weaknesses.

  • i wonder if this guy is any good at sparring... he can kick well but can he fight?

  • @smootube123 yo Shut the fuck up..u sound mad stupid..

  • @HappyHourKoolAid no, just because he can do the techniques doesnt mean he can apply them in a fighting situation.

  • @smootube123 U take tkd? how would u know then?

  • @HappyHourKoolAid

Well, I take Tkd, and smootube is correct. Even if you know the techniques, the mentality to actually apply it in a situation is variant for each person. That's why we have sparring every week, to get used to apply what we know.

  • so easy to counter

  • Your so easy to get your ass kicked

  • I noticed some people talking about MT and TKD comparing them.

Let me say as a person who uses them both that Muay Thai definitely has the stronger Round House because they use the hips instead of the joints so they pack more weight into their kicks.

Overall both martial systems are great and powerful.

1 thing people should also do is not become hypnotized by sports. Yeah sports is the only way to watch a fight, but real self defense is the best of any martial art.

    Traditional beats sport.

  • Im muay thai aswell.. both kicks are pretty good but go with the elbows and knees thats where the realy power comes from =D

  • @RandomsInCheese True but theres the whole range thing aswell :/. I prefer my kicks overall. Then Knees and then punches.

  • i use my kicks for body shots and if i connect i kick for head for the knockout

  • wht an amazing balance =O

    Loved the 'aya' XD

  • @Teneban actually I can see some problems with his balance, his foot is never planted firmly enough on the ground, that can be easily fixed by practicing balancing a broom upside down on the tip of your foot for as long as you can

  • wtf 1:30 hes saying like oda was in lol

  • Idk, I woulden't really raise my leg before throwing the kick, if anyone knows what I mean?

I would stand in a position with my leg down on flour and throw the kick in a "bow" from the flour up as high as I can, hopefully someone gets me.

  • @Guard655

Kicking at an angle such as you decribe will rob you of power. For maximum power, the roundhouse needs to be paralell to the ground. A front leg kick is inherently less powerful than a rear, but it's faster, like a jab. That's not to say there's no power in them. I've broken 4" of pine with a front leg roundhouse, and that's far more power than is needed to break a rib. Of course, the kick as described in this video is for sparring. For breaking, you strike with the ball of the foot.

  • no what you dont wanna do that lol what you wanna do is always be direct you always wanna b ready bounce on your feet back an forth

  • bulshit this kick not going hurt..be men lets practice muay thai round kick and you will se what is the power

  • i agree

mui thai is definetly more powerful but it isnt as elegant

  • Form should follow function, not the other way around.

  • From a kickboxer point of view, I find it funny how he says "put up your guards" and the way he holds his hands at his chest. No disrespect but it is quite funny. Not a bad round kick for a TKD person...

  • shut up

  • mister no fighting art in ths world is useless nor superer on othr so plz stop showing that ur so genius n stop cmntn on any martial art wen u dnt know abt it

  • Well I never really said anything about TKD being useless, I couldn't agree any more with you about every martial art having something good.

I am not a genius because I am just looking at the facts, as a little kid I started with Karate then TKD, as I grew up I needed something more so got into Muay Thai and Kickboxing.

In TKD your hands are down, TKD is all about speed and kicking to score points, most of the guys that just practice TKD have a strong lower body but a pretty weak upper body.

  • plz learn about an art before making assumption...

TKD basically has two branches: WTF and ITF

WTF is the sport one, and it is unfortunately the most dominant in the US

ITF is more focused on combat, so you also use guards, hands, etc...

  • Then you need to blame the Dojang you were studying at and not the art. What you just explained was Olympic style OR WTF style Taekwondo, not traditional or ITF TKD. In short your downing something you obviously don't know about.

  • @Cepe777a since TKD turned into a olympic sport dojangs now train you in TKD sparring more than the original TKD in korea some TKD schools make you do training just like american football players and teach you kicking and punching and other things

  • Very well done, great teacher. I'll be a pro in no time :D

  • next time can you do it on the dummy ?

  • bout to say that

  • teehee, that's one of my favorite kicks.

  • @JessBisme me too hahaha lol

  • This dudes balance is ridiculous!

  • amen

  • @davidp1023 You wanna know what the trick is; By keeping your hands up that keeps your balance up. And streching helps this as well.

  • @davidp1023 bet better than yours

  • @Grandiosa88 he ment in a good way -_-

  • @davidp1023 ridiculous??where is your video showing whats balance man?

  • This is has got to be WTF, I never heard the names of this kicks until I see the demo and I realise what kicks they are. I do ITF, and what I ve been taught that this kick is, is a Turning Kick

  • Dollyo Chagi is literally "Turning Kick" but, it is also called a Round Kick or Roundhouse Kick, describing the kicking motion of the leg.

  • siktir lan amina kodugmun cocugu...

  • this is an example of a point sparring round kick if anything. They are meant for speed and surprise, not necessarily for strength. But yes, a traditional round kick should be from the hip.

  • That's a Muay Thai style roundhouse kick ur thinking of. There are hundreds of different ways to do a RH kick. And you don't HAVE to do anything except hit ur opponent with it.

  • even a 1st degree belt oso should nt make tat mistake.

  • ya tat's wat i mean

  • I trained in both Taekwondo(ITF) and karate(Goshinryu) and ther was NEVER any master taught us tat using turning kick wit the power of KNEE instead of HIP. Obviously tis guy is so fucking wrong probly he is WTF style taekwondo, wat a disgrace to TKD.

  • Comment removed

  • i agree partly w/u where his kick went is incorrect because the kick has to be center line of the body his kicks go 2 o'clock instead of 12 o'clock but this guys is rite about the power comin from the hip to faster ur hip turns and ur leg pivots the harder n faster the kick u can get power from just the knee

e.g. do u kick a soccer ball with just ur knee or do u use ur thigh and hips

if u use ur knee then u got a weak kick but when u use ur hips and everything below it u have a powerful kick

  • Dude i dun think u get wat i mean, i dun reli care wat is his direction as in real sparring ther will be no fix direction. I said this guy throws kick frm his knee but NOT the hips, which is wrong and which is no power.

Ya in tis clip he said tat "power came frm hips but nt the knee", but he still did it wrongly(wit knee), wat he said doesnt match wit wat he did.

  • If you are stating that none of your teachers taught you to use your hips for the power of your kick, then I am afraid you have kicks of very little use and much flash. But perhaps I misunderstood what you were saying.

  • Dude do u utd english? Or my english jz too bad?

  • burak jakich wiele w ameryce!!!! nawet nie potrafi prawidłowo pięści zacisnąć

  • Polski? Paruski? Ukrainian? German? Dutch? Flemish? What.....

  • I knocked out a kyukoshin black belt in 3 kicks. cro cop is ma favourite. n Iam blue belt. Muay Thai is more powerfull? WTF

  • U frm wtf or itf?

  • Iam from WTF. U a martial artist too?

  • I dun declare myself as martial artist but im a TKD practitioner. I am frm GTF, nice to meet u.

  • i am WTF too friend , i stopped for 6 years and started now again , i have really good kicks but i have problems learning the poomses i have to learn them all to get the red belt *( i'm half red)* so what do you think friend :) ?

  • I love poomses man, I always wanted to be like hwaorang of tekken series. I also stopped for 4 years but started again. I got a problem with my reverse hook kick. Its my poor speed u know. plz give me some tips if u got?

  • yes i got :D !!! you should do your excercises on a 2 days basis or when you have tkd lessons and try to be a little faster every time you kick the targets at the lesson , then try some sparring with your mates at your tkd team and ask from your teacher to teach you the reverse hook kick and i'm sure he will solve this problem :) it's a matter of time and more try every time you go there :D ! it's fun !

  • ok man, firstly off of your front foot rotate it (along with your body) 180 degrees, so you should be facing the other way to where you were before, now is when you start to pick up the chamber, like a regular hook kick. now rotate through with your hips and your supporting ankle should naturally follow through. remember when you spin to keep central dont favour one side more than the other. message me back if i was helpful and stuff and if you need anythin else give me a msg

  • crocop is one of the best MMA knockout artists, despite being old. He uses TKD kicks such as this using his instep, not shin

  • Crocop has trained in tkd yes. He does NOT however kick ANYTHING like this.

  • that guy is very good

  • these are teaching videos not fighting videos. He is teaching a basic kick.

    His skills are very good.

thanks for the post nice job man.

  • Ya man thanks for the vids, please keep it up.

  • Ephasm, you don't know shit dude, don't talk unless you know what you are talking about. For one, in MMA/UFC, a round kick is the most common kick used along side the front kick; even at times, side kicks are used but not as often as the front/round. Two, I have NEVER fought a Tai Chi'er in the ring, or will I since the art is WEAK. Tai Chi blows, get over it. Oh, btw, when you kick you cover your body/ribs with your arms and forearms (hands up?) so breaking ribs is an impossibility. Fuck off.

  • *biceps not arms

  • come back and argue with me when you've had some proper ring fights mate. if you wanna talk about arts "being weak" then wtf are you doing shit kwon do for.

  • mate its thai, as in muay thia, as in from thailand. not tai chi so stop being a tit.

2 - in "MMA/UFC" (btw MMA is the sport, UFC is the company) they never kick like this. ever. period. fact. because they kick like thai boxers using the hips to throw the kick and connect with the shins. very few people flick their leg at their opponent face to try and hit with the top of the foot. thats just stupid.

and 3 the back arm in the above video is coming across his chest - not protecting ribs.

  • ive seen a few fighters who use head kicks.. sure didnt cro cop have a few knockouts with this?? im no expert though...

  • it's not about throwing to the head -thats very good and well. But this particular style of kick... ie the tae kwon do, tradition karate-ish style has no power in it. thats why kyokushin and mma and muay thai etc all kick with the shin and throw fro mthe hips, not the knee.

  • Every punch in boxing is not meant to knock an opponent out. Every kick in martial arts is not meant to knock an opponent out.

You throw the roundhouse and the skip roundhouse like you throw a jab. You throw the thai kick like you throw a hook.

  • People don't throw kicks like this in K! or MMA. The reason being its a weak and useless kick. Too many weaknesses for no gain. And especially in the MMA ring it's all too easy to rush through the kick and totally ignore it.

And mate - I've seen olympics tae kwon do and that crap. it's the most ridiculous shit ive ever seen. put one of those guys in the K1 ring with a 10 kilo advantage and they'll still look like a kid trying to fight with adults.

  • i think he ment muay thai not tai chi

  • dude ur stupid. this kick can do alot of damage if u kno wen to use it. trust me, ive been doing martial arts for 10 years and ive been in many fights. ive fough all kinds of fighters including muay thai fighters and won many fights as well

  • Comment removed

  • first thing first. its about the fighter not the art

  • Until you've competed with an olympic-level competitor, don't talk. Muay thai is awesome, but it sounds like the martial arts where you're from are really weak.

  • ur kicks are too slow and for the roundhouse kick u shouldnt put ur leg touching all the way too ur but and kick out waste of time just kick out using ur speed and hip rotation more power and faster kick

  • Caleb your the man. I favorited a couple of your vids and use them to practice my kicking form. Restarted TKD after a 10 years absence so I need all the help I can get. Please dont listen to these youtube haters. Everyone on here is a expert. Lol. Keep bringing the vids if you can. Thanks for the vids and keep up the great work in TKD. Peace.

  • Why is the mindset that of you'll be barefooted all the time? No one seems to mention the advantages of how the kick is done when you have on sneakers or boots. If I point my toes while wearing boots or sneakers, you will leave a nice gash in the skin even if you somewhat miss the full impact.

  • hii

  • What the fuck does he say at 1:32. It sounds like he mixes 3 words together lol

  • lmfao i think he's consentrating, straining and trying too tutor at the same time, and that doesn't mix.

  • hhahahahahahaahahahahaahhahahaha lmfao that funny as fuck

  • It kinda sounds like hes saying foot goeswheretheotheroneisnt all in one word...but theres alot of places where the other one isnt...that doesnt narrow it down too much

  • listen at 0:09 he doesn't know what to say

  • Holy shit man, thats crazy i think he says Foot goes where the other " one is and " kick. I THINK thats crazy tho

  • 'put where the other one is and' lol, get some ears,

  • to all the haters,,,...ok he doesnt know how to kick but he can own your ass ...so stfu losers

  • ...... he sucks.... no offense...=P

  • yeah, while the only thing you can do is watch it and jack off too it. .....he sucks, no you suck..

  • this guy is a great teacher, rly he is. The only problem is he doesnt know shit about how kicks or apparently anything is properly done in tkd. so in other words he is a fag

  • look at his guard, man thats pretty terrible even for TKD. the kick is of pretty poor quality too and a typical TKD offering. the learn how to score points in their game. i knwo some people practice "practical" TKD, but if you dont agree with me about the technique of your average TKD player then you arent realy doing anything applicable in self defence.

  • Sometimes even wearing a black uniform is considered disrespectful :-/

  • i didnt martials arts was a fucking fashion statement. who the shit cares what hes wearing

  • this guy's good but how come all the "expert village" ppl can't speak at all?! they always mess up, every expert village vid i see lol, paradoxical title, but anyways yeah good stuff

  • Yeah, It's a dollyo chagi (sorry, not sure about spelling?)

  • talio chagi

  • btw is the round kick nearly the same ass a turning kick (bi jagi)

  • and and and so and or so and STFU ALREADY!

  • listen, nobody is making you watch this, if your not interested press the button that looks like [X]

  • Fuck i wish i had balance like that

  • practice regularily, give it a year

  • idk when i started i had good balance in 2months..than again i trained for 4-6 hours a day.

  • lolz.. why is there a debate about the correct way to kick with a front kick? lol.. front kick = kick with ball of foot.. turning/round/roundhouse kick = kick with top of foot/bottom of shin.. and whenever you kick either front or turning kick, toes should be pulled ~away~ from your target :D hope that settles the dispute :D

  • In my style you have to pull your toes (and your feet) back with a turning kick, and kick with the ball of the foot, like you do with a front snap kick. You are not gonna break your toes like the guy on the video says, if you do it correctly, and i think it's much more effective than kicking with the shin.

  • i would agree if you're trying to come around someone's guard, but on the whole, i wouldn't wanna risk it, :D

  • its the ame in my style and mine is wtf

  • i know, but mine is GTF :)

  • yer we learn to do our round houses with the ball of the foot aswell. my insrtuctors says that kicking with the ball of the foot is the traditional way to do it and would be the way you would kick in a real fight. were as the kicking with the instep ( top of foot) is used only in sport sparring as its quicker and you wear padded feet .

  • by the way, if you're an advanced taekwondo practitioner, the tip of you're foot will point slightly downwards when performing a round kick (dollyo chagi). Downward movement creates more power.

  • Yeah this is a typical WTF kick. Nice though. I practice ITF taekwondo, we learn to kick this way, but also with the ball of your foot, it's tougher like Xplodz explained.

  • In shotokan, you kick with the balls of your foot in the roundkick. The reason why is because it's a tougher surface than the top of the foot. You won't break your toes if they are flexible, something that is developed in training.

  • true, but u sinds u aim for the temple it wil be leathal. i rather slap someone with the top of my foot instead of killing the person

  • The round/turning kick usually strikes with the ball of the foot for penetration and the instep when you are striking the side of the face or glancing blows to the body.

  • a guy in my taekwondo class did'nt kick round kicks with the toes straight down so he injured his toes, bad

  • el AIA ese que se manda es medio de trolin pero la tiene clara el pibe eh.

  • in fact, this is the way to do a proper, WTF front foo
