  • This is recorded from vinyl, I can hear the copy.....

  • But very nice music indeed.

  • WHOA, this exact song was creepily remixed in shadowman playrooms. O_O

  • what a bro

  • thumps up if you see that because honey 2 :)

  • Bravo!!!

  • Kissin's hair is cool!!

  • OK... I've just thankfully landed here, after listening to about 20 different versions of this on YouTube, looking for a good one. And all some of you can hear is his hair?

  • Immortal Brahms!

  • thats a passionate name: Kissin'

  • Brahms was the Viennese heir apparent to Beethoven. Many of his contemporaries found his compositions to be longwinded. He waited until much later in his career to compose his first symphony and one of his primary supporters was Clara Schumann, celebrated concert pianist and widow of celebrated composer Robert Schumann whose mental illness resulted in death by self imposed starvation. This piece is truly lovely and very Brahms.

  • Great performance

  • 10 Leute haben 'nen Schaden. =P

  • So romantic, tender, and sensitive... Maestro Kissin, your legacy will live on when all else has died out...

  • Evgeny Kissin is a LEGEND :)

  • amazing :) my favourite classical piece of all time

  • wonderful, so expressiv and sensitiv... congratulation Hella

  • i suck at this song. and i thought i was doing fine until i heard this guy. D:

  • lovely great tempo its perfect!!

  • stunning - Bravo!

  • Kissin is great.

Listen to Horowitz 'Schubert stanchan (serenade)

  • You played this just like a Swiss music box. Absolutely lovely. I need to play it like this for my grandad.

  • You played this just like a Swiss music box. Absolutely lovely.

  • He looks a little nutty. Very good though.

  • This guy is amazing! He plays is so well.

I have to play it next week... I sound horrible compared to him!

  • @za50crows do you think so? look for the video when he performed one of the chopin piano concerts (when he was a baby).

  • This piece is incredibly beautiful. He did an amazing job with it.

  • He palyed it so beautifully!

  • played so exceptionally well! bravo!

  • Sweet!

  • This hair proves how much he cares about music; he lets it grow out, he doesn't care. He just rolls out of bed and flops down to his keyboard and starts playing beautiful music - to heck with appearances!

  • @AnAmericanComposer Maybe he loved his afro.

  • @AnAmericanComposer Both Kissen and his barber will no doubt read your comment and sigh the sigh of the misunderstood

  • @AnAmericanComposer Wow, its funny because I did exactly the same with my hair. :)

  • @AnAmericanComposer

I wish women can live this way.

  • Arrange for violin or voice - as I play this I hear the words "the raging tide won't be denied" referring to Victor Hugo's "Toilers of the Sea" which I was reading at time I learned this 1947-50.

  • so simple and so beautiful...

  • I love this piece but especially when Mr. Kissin plays it. I've compared with another version of the same piece, but this is the best of the bests to me.

  • Saddest music ever...yet so good.

  • nevertheless my own commentary it is moving and renders me to tears

  • I like this slower version :)

  • Very pretty. When I used to dance ballet, sometimes we would warm up to this.

Now, I play this on my violin (only it's an adapted form in a more violin-friendly key than A flat). I always feel so calm when I play it.

  • I love this music so much. Thanks for this beatiful video.

  • beautiful interpretation thank you for posting this

  • Wow!. Beautifully done

    Thank you for posting this.

  • Nice, the intimacy of the piece is well expressed, emotionally layered and with restraint, which makes it even more brittle. Maybe a bit too for my taste but hey, it's a waltz

  • To bigmelt:

I think a few notes of mistakes are acceptable. you should notice his interpretation not just his finger. it's too shallow to say in that way.

  • Beau romantisme du jeu, virtuose!

  • Beautifully played!

To be honest, I used to be highly sceptical about Kissin, since I always felt that his playing was "somewhat" shallow (the same with Langlang btw.). But some of his perfomances I recently came across appear to be highly probable to change my mind.

  • I think that Kissin's playing is not shallow at all. Yes, he is relatively young and still improving(besides the technical part), but he got a lot of thoughts when he plays.

Compare him with Langlang? Well, I would say they are absolutely not in the same level.

  • @ abdullah301: Haven't you ever heard of slow dancing??

  • amazing

  • Do you guys think that if this piece was piece was played in a slower pace, it would have been more romantic and would have been more dramatic?

  • You might enjoy a performance of this piece by Soheil Nasseri

  • I think a good way to judge someone's skill at music is by how outrageous their hair is. Like Kissin, Beethoven, Brahms, etc.

  • @C33Four god i hope this is irony

  • @C33Four and moszart? :)

  • @C33Four WHAT IF YOU HAVE NO HAIR...:'[ .. I have hair btw..just saying...

  • @C33Four Have you ever seen Fauré's moustache , just wondering, I think it might have told him how to make such great music.

  • @C33Four that means that i am a big musician?

  • that man on that piano just gave you majic there

  • Where's the hyoog crescendo???

I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes weird faces while playing.

  • it hits my spot

  • which spot..?

  • who bought it,your mum

  • that was good

  • I apologise and regret any offence caused by my insensitive remarks. I had grown tired

    of of the shallowness of

    sentimentality; and was

    in danger of seeing it

    everywhere.

  • I just played this a few minutes ago on my piano... great technique and feeling in the piece. now I have something to work off of. Great job!!

  • do you know where i can get free sheet music online? if you do, could you send me a message on my account? (i'm using my brothers right now) My account is xjonnaxleex2395... thanx!

  • that was incredible! i'm 14 and i just played this at a recital, not nearly as well as this. (my piano teacher keeps telling me that she has never heard anyone else play it as well as me, but i knew she was wrong. this guy is amazing!)

  • that was amazing :)

    like every key hit perfectly

  • I played this for my piano recital - but I don't have as much emotion as this guy.

  • absolutely stunning performance!

  • This is beautiful!! I love how his notes are.."nice" you know? They ring of kindness! And..His left hand..is so..soft..i love it!

  • 1:13 sounds especially nice, not so easy to play as well, since the right hand accord requires the thumb to take up two keys

  • I like this song a lot, but i think there's something to be said for having it be a bit slower to start with, and move around a bit more. The copy I have is just over a minute and a half.

  • Interesting contrast between this piece played in 92 seconds and Lipatti who plays the same in 66 seconds. I guess I prefer Kissin with more chance to savor the melody. Thank you You Tube for both.

  • Me encanta Brahms especialmente sus "vals", que fueron utilizados por Frederick Ashton para crear la pieza Five Brahms Waltzes in the Manner of Isadora Duncan

  • This was played at my granddad's funeral. Always makes me sad! But it's beautiful

  • Its abit too fast - if you slow down then you create a good Romantic athmosphere

  • I enjoyed this performance - excellent musicality.

  • a pianist with a perfect technique, scent of music and hair to perform this :)

  • haha lol.

    =o)

  • Ah, Miyazak, We think of butterflies dancing in the breeze, ahhhh! and happy girls picking daisies. there, does that make you happy?

Truth is, we think of sex. At every available opportunity. This piece by Brahms was written to lull women into thinking, it's safe. Reality is, it's all foreplay.

Oh yes, and we're not 'guys' Guys you burn on bonfire night. We're 'men' Ok?

  • Snevets don't be cruel to Miyazaki. You just wait till you're older. You won't think about sex then, except as a distant memory, and that will be mere recollection. Instead of sex, you'll be thinking about stuff like, "Why do I hurt so much?" and "What was I doing?" and "Who's that old fart in the mirror?" Hey, and what about the guys that help hold things up; don't they count too? Besides, melancholia+soothing=sex anyway ... damned butterflies!

  • everytime i hear this I think of two old people dancing a waltz, the old man trying to console his wife of bad memories, To me this song is melancholy and soothing at the same time. Although I am curious. What do you guys picture when you see this?

  • Alas...I picture my sweet cat dying beside me in my bed. This was playing on the radio as she breathed her last. It will forever be in my mind as "Diddum's Song". Every time I hear it. I think of her sweet face.

  • best bow ever.

    :D

  • I adore Brahms and respect that Evgeny Kissin is an incredible pianist. Although it's played beautifully, there isn't a lot of feeling behind his playing. It just seems a little dry. But, I do like his hair and know sometimes you just have to be there to really get what's going on.

  • kissin doesnt drown you in his own emotion. if you want to watch someone "feeling it" go watch lang lang or something.

i think kissin's playing has a good balance of technical precision and emotion

also he was pretty young here.

  • I think the last person who can play with emotion is Lang Lang...

The guy is an actor first, then a pianist second.

He does have brilliant technique, but melodically... he sucks. He plays pieces WAY TOO FAST and strives for speed over beauty.

  • i completely agree.

  • EXACTLY! lang-lang is terrible.

  • Lang Lang doesn't even have superlative technique! I heard him play Chopins 1st piano concerto and he made a shitload of mistakes. All hype.

  • Then I stand corrected... Maybe I just haven't heard enough of him...

I mean I watched him play Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 and there didn't seem to be a single note out of place... however I've never heard him play the Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1.

I should do a little more listening.

  • dude, thats not true.

  • have you heard lang lang live? He obviously doesn't miss notes in recordings... His technique is obviously very good, all I'm saying is that he made WAY too many mistakes at the concert I heard given that he has a reputation as a super virtuoso.

  • cziffra was a super virtuoso,

lang lang is nothing close to cziffra

  • Sorry, I was responding to a comment about lang lang and his technical mistakes when he plays live. I actually think Kissin has better technique than Lang Lang, and he actually makes many fewer mistakes (I agree with the comments about their respective musicalities too)

  • Oh dear, my misunderstanding. I apologize.

  • omg I'm so happy that I found a video of my favourite pianist playing this song :D Evgeny's playing is truly amazing and I love listening to his performance's.

  • i am wondering what fans will do if euvgeny turns into bald-kissin!!!

  • Beautiful! (and funky hair :P)

  • Good playing. Brahms is probably my second-favorite composer after Chopin, and this playing does a beautiful song justice.

Also, I like the last name and the hairstyle :)

  • what is the message of this peice?

  • This piece does not have a 'message'; no great music does. It's only lousy music that tries to sell you a message.

  • I would disagree with this. I mean Vivaldi's four seasons have a message and that is nature. Beethoven's fifth violin sonata is about spring, Bach's Chaconne is often written as if it were a memory for his dead wife, and Tartini's violin sonata in g minor is associated with the devil's music. The message may not be blatant but music without any message in it is...well...4'33".

  • The music IS the message!!! There is no reason to think of spring, or death, or hell or anything else; just listen to this beautiful music. That's all that's necessary!

  • Love the waltz... and especially his hair.

  • Beautiful! This is the most famous of the waltzes written by Brahms.

  • Magnificent playing - he needs a haircut.

  • Doesn't this song hanve lyrics?

  • No! This is the original composed by romantic composer Brahms. If you heard lyrics its probably a transcription...

  • Nope, it's just a piano waltz.

  • I'll leave this piece NOW

  • Beautiful and perfect. This piece makes me cry every time.

  • beautiful -sniff-

  • amazing!!!

though i think he should find himself some one to cut his hair... lol

  • perfect...
