You get to try it risk-free, and if you don't like it, no one's forcing you to play it. As a Tribes veteran, I find Ascend quite enjoyable, even if it is markedly different from Tribes 1 & 2.
Also, Tribes: Vengeance sold about 47,000 copies (which is obviously still a complete failure, but it did a little better than you stated).

@TheZigZagg Not exactly so. Autoaim is needed if weapons are pinpoint accurate. But you can still have great FPS game for gamepads without autoaim by nerfing everything else, like how targets are moving, splash damage, inaccuracy to weapons and giving possibility to move faster so even keyboard+mouse players have harder time to hit you. Autoaim isn't needed and T:A is great example how they have managed to port Tribes to gamepads by nerfing it.

@Eogh4n No, not particularly. I can run the game at 1080p with all settings maxed at a consistent 60+ FPS with my single 6950. (Recommended specs are a quad-core processor, 4GB RAM, and a GTX 560/Radeon 6950.)

@Ryd3r22 I returned my 570s and got a single 6950 (for now). I think anyone who likes first-person shooters would enjoy Tribes. And yes, your PC will run Tribes just fine at that resolution.

I recognize so many names in that game... I could have sworn I was in the same match. Great first impressions. I agree; I was glued to my seat. I played BF3 a bit and couldn't help but feel that I could be using that time instead to upgrade Technician more... so I did.
Nice video. However, I do disagree a bit about some of what you were saying. I was, personally, very disappointed with the loadouts. You know that my particular playstyle is very niche, but it makes it almost impossible. I do enjoy the fact that you can make the class better by spending points in it, but that doesn't make up for the insanely limited loadout. But, you know me. I've already got more turret kills than anything else. =P
@Dextrizzle I certainly understand where you're coming from, and I know many old school Tribes players feel the same way. I hope they add more loadouts and further customization prior to the full release.
What are the packs for the medium class? I have the closed beta but I still can't figure out what the medium class's packs do, are they even available?
@MrNavoB I don't have it in front of me, but as I recall, I think most of the medium packs were passive abilities (like the soldier's energy pack, for instance).
@unknownandunnamed Hi-Rez was originally planning to release Tribes by the end of this year, but they decided to delay it into next year. I would almost certainly expect to see it release in the first quarter of 2012.

The only reason fps games work so well on consoles is because of the generous auto aim, this game couldnt have that.
The level of skill required for this game would make it completely fail on consoles..
