  • I am surprised, Hampton Roads, and Norfolk, and Virginia Beach are pretty densely populated areas.

  • Will try to signoff 12

  • Yes, they started using this sign off in the summer of 2008. They usually sign off sometime in the 2 AM hour, and sign on at 5 AM Saturday Mornings, and 4:30 AM on Sunday Mornings.

  • I have it on tape when they signed off and there was severe weather in the area. It was on 5/9/09, and they kept the crawl on the screen, and the radar was on the state of Virginia. WTKR is the only station in Hampton Roads to sign off regularly. WVEC signs off only during daylight savings time in March and November. WAVY stays on all the time. Both those stations would do a crawl too if there was overnight severe weather.

  • @THENTENT can you upload the sign-off with the crawl??

  • what if they signed-off and there was overnight severe weather????(would it just be a crawl, or a emergency sign-on for cut-in?)

  • Depends on the severity. There is protocol in place to do cut ins should conditions warrant.

  • The gap between sign-off and sign-on couldn't have been more than an hour.

  • More like 90 minutes. I also love how they say "tomorrow", when they actually signed off at 3:00a, and then back on at 4:30a.
