Best version of the song. It's like he listened to everyone's remakes, and took all of the best for the ultimate remake. Nobody will sing it as good -period-. I like the electric guitars -Manson version-.
I dont know what he does but somehow John Peel just seems to bring out the best in the acts that perform for his show. This is a great version of this song! Thanks for posting KrausErick
this is a cool version, its nice to hear loud distorted guitars mixing with all the synths, i was so gutted when i heard that john peel had died, he was a great man, the world needs people like him more than ever, otherwise everyone will end up listening to boybands, ( not us though! )
lol that's kinda of humorous and very non ominious sounding machmen... i probably would freak out if a group of michellin white rubber men were chasing me to kill and rape me though.
They really hit it on this version. Great sound and it sounds like the crowd knew it was something special. Good stuff Gary , and thanks again to John Peel for everything he did
Well, as far as I know a "M.A.C.H.MAN" was a comic strip in a UK comic called 2000 AD. M.A.C.H. stood for "Man Activated by Compupuncture Hyperpower" and was a ripoff of the 6 Million Dollar Man. The character, John Probe was supposedly given great strencth by computer operated acupuncture. amazing what you believe as a kid innit?
This is the best version of this song i've heard. I first heard this song in 2005 when I bought one of Gary's compilation albums. One of my favourite songs from Tubeway Army/Numan.
My fav Numan song. Anyone here old enough to remember a Film that was showing in the early 80's called
URGHH- A MUSIC WAR, with alternate bands on it and Numan in a little car driving on a fog filled stage? {I think this was the song he did} doing this, creepy loud and brilliant, anyone see that film?
I remember it! I also saw him live in 1980/81 at LongBeach Arena (up close)...I was in 10the 10th grade at the time--great concert! He came out in that car, fog and all--what a show--what memories! I saw Mark (from Devo) that same night- he was there to see Gary's concert and I got his autograph on my Gary Numan ticket stub envelope!

This has been a great song for 30 some years. Anyone remember the early tours with OMD and Nash the Slash.
Good times.

The guitars did add to this track, I prefer the original backing tho.
Numans voice has never changed, still sounds as good as he did in 1978

the rape machines do the raping! dont you know anything about young gary's little world?
i imagine the rape machines to just be hovering atari joysticks with rounded ends.
Makes sense if you visualise it

yes but the machmen dont do the raping. the machmen meet the machines and play kill by numbers. but the rape machines are the ones doing the raping.

Luckily not WilliamGunieaPig.
Replicas is a fundamental album.
As is a solid base in Sci-Fi literature.
On a sidenote, I echo exproggo's lament:
JOHN PEEL! DIE ON ME WOULD YOU?
Damn....
