I don't mean for you to take it as an insult to Kiedis. I was in no way trying to say he wasn't a good singer or that he was not important to the band, beyond that, he does have some good live performances. That being said, skill has plenty to do with it. How would the Chili Peppers sound if John wasn't a very good guitar player? It would be ridiculous to say that they'd sound the same. Sure, he might have some of the same ideas, but if he couldn't play them what good would it do?

I will say this is one of Kiedis' weaker performances. I also think that he is likely the weakest member of the band. Frusciante is a fantastic guitarist, Flea is an amazing bassist, and Chad is an awesome drummer. Kiedis isn't a bad singer, but he's definitely not on the same level as his bandmates in terms of skill.

That's probably true. Bu having said that, I don't think that abyone else would be a fitting singer for the band. You could have a great rockl singer that has a four octave range, but he probably would mesh in well with the style. Anthony has consistently kept his voice in a way that fits. Would Give it Away have put the band on the map without his lyrics? Under the Bridge was started with his lyrics. And thats they're most popular song. He has a natural talent for melody making

I'll agree with that definitely, Kiedis is one of the most inconsistent singers you listen to slane/hyde & think ''fuck this is tight'' but then you see some of his other performances & its horrible at times.

i hate these people who pretend to be 'real' chili's fans going "oh yeh their best albums are the first 2." its just not true. in fact, their earlier albums were more generi - because they just used standard funk techniques. by the time it got to BSSM/Californication, they had developed their own sound - surely the opposite of generic?
