@NicolaWriter It isn't interesting at all. He had no reason to doubt Mary's paternity. He got rid of Katherine because she didn't have a boy, there was never any allegations of adultery against Katherine. He got rid of Anne by accusing her of adultery. So it kind of fits for him also to allege that Elizabeth wasnt' his.

There's nothing to suggest Henry ever thought Elizabeth wasn't his daughter-- as Alison Weir points out, he would certainly not have restored her to the succession in 1544 if he had had any doubts about her paternity.

Historically, I don't think Henry ever denied being Elizabeth's father. I believe it was during the reign of Mary that questions were raised about her parentage. What BS, though; she's the most like him out of all of his children, and yet she's not his daughter. Yeah, RIGHT...

From what I've read (and yes, that's my disclaimer-they were history book,s but you never know) Henry treated his daughters as well as his son. He may have been a lousy husband but it appears he was a decent father. MARY was actually the odd "man" out b/c she was so much older than the other two (not b/c she was Catholic) it was Elizabeth and Edward that grew up together.

He didn't give the thrown to Jane. People acting for the King placed her there so that they could still control England even after Edwards death.

The only reason why the crown was passed to Jane was because she was protestant. Plus, her family wanted power. The crown was supposed to go to Mary if Edward died without children. But then Mary raised an army, and then she became queen. But then Mary died without an heir and so Elizabeth became queen.

Historically, Jane didn't actually do all that much for Elizabeth. Her sole interest was Mary because she was Catholic and the daughter of Queen Katherine and she regarded her as a Princess still. Not to say that she didn't try for Elizabeth as well. She did invite her to Edward's christening, but nothing like the scene in the show. When Anne was executed, Henry sent the poor child far away and did not wish to see her.

She was nicer to Elizabeth and did more for her than Anne did For Mary. Yes, Jane didn't do as much as was presented in the show, but she did something. Anne treated Mary like crap and didn't defend her to Henry. I could actually *see* Jane trying to give money to Elizabeth and being kind to Jane Rochford(who was a lady-in-waiting to Queen Jane in rl).

It's possible that Jane would have eventually tried to do something for Elizabeth. She specifically asked for Elizabeth to be present / participate in Edward's christening.

It was not something that she had to do. Remember that Mary wasn't present at Elizabeth's christening.

Reconciling Henry with Elizabeth would have had to be done in small steps because there was still bad feeling against Anne.

It would have been interesting to see the kind of Queen Jane would have been, had she lived.

I don't think really anyone back then was considered a saint. Anne Boleyn wasn't a satanic monster, but she wasn't a saint. Same thing with Lady Jane Grey and Jane Seymour. Mary I certainly wasn't a saint, but compared to many others rulers before and after her, she really wasn't all that evil.

I think it's wrong to assume Jane would've "never" helped Elizabeth, especially considered towards the end Jane's life she took an interest in the girl.

Jane Rochford was not seen as a "lying bitch", in fact the idea that she fabricated evidence against her husband and Anne didn't come up until long after her death. It was mostly likely made up to dismay her as a Catholic.

Notice how quickly Henry decides to meet his daughter after she submitted to his will. He could have just filed the submission away and continued to ignore her-but I believe deep down he cared for his daughters even though they were less in his eye than his sons-Henry Fitzroy and Edward VI were treated like Princes all the days of their lives.
