  • 11 people can't accept the fact that Tchaikovsky is 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 times better than Justin Bieber.

  • LOOOVE this song to death!!! I'm playing this in orchestra! And I'm the first trumpet! WOOOOT

  • @Gordontrek BEST part!!

  • Should be the anthem of the United Russia Party! :)

Besides that, Tchaikovsky's music is always at its best when it deals with patriotic themes.

  • Great preformance. You need a better compression. I had to crank it too much.

  • Old school. High School.

  • Magnificent!!!!!! LOOOVE the woodwinds!

  • My sheet music must have a typo on it because it says "Marche Slav" on it :\

  • @USMCxMETEO thats the REAL name of this piece

  • @USMCxMETEO Some people spell it "March Slav"...some spell it "Marche Slave"...or variations of both. Tis cool :)

  • Emperor? World dictator all will bow down before you then!

  • @longduckdong318 An emperor with absolute power of the world (assuming that`s what he meant) is a world dictator.

  • I would love a breakdown of the themes used in this piece.

  • I would guess that the conductor was Leopold Stokowski

  • favorite classical song :) ....... it reminds me of star wars sorta though........

  • Always in my heart, master Tchaikovsky.

Siempre en mi corazon, maestro Tchaikovsky.

  • i love how on this video, more than any other i've viewed, there are so many different languages together in the comment section. thank you, Mr. Tchaikovsky

  • Dieses Stück lieb ich mehr als die 1812 Ouvertüre

  • Чудесна композиция.

  • Who is the conductor? This is a master piece

  • @8Goldie I'm guessing the conductor is André Previn, this being the LSO.

  • @merloon Thank you!

  • @merloon it is

  • how can this have 11 dislikes?? this is such a great piece

  • Wow I've been listening to this since I was at least 4. It's still the best!

  • The symphonie was writen in Serbian honor ! idioti zapadski !

  • Dear YouTube, I would like you to replace the "like" button with a "madly in love with button".

  • was just moved

  • ACCEPT- Metal Heard

    listen to this....

  • lol, the slug! awesome username!

  • Whenever I hear this song, I feel like launching blowing and exploding random shit up.

  • I remember as a little kid I would fantasize playing this song.... now the time has come! OH YEAH BABY!

  • Do you know who is conducting?

  • Approaching and attacking the Death Star in Star Wars.

  • who knows where i can get a really slow version of this? that'd PERFECTLY depict this one part in my book.

  • when i listen to this song, i imagine an army in a desert, a fight between Cartago and Rome, i imagine egypt and ancient civilizations... this song is perfect...

  • Disappointing when I realize just how few people who, despite having a genuine adoration for this song, cannot associate with any sort of imagery or epoch. A song meant to chronicle the suffering of the Slavic people at the ends of the turks is completely lost. Rather than fantasizing of a column of Streltsy trudging through the morass of a winter campaign people use this as a theme song for Call of Duty and Halo. Something very depressing about that to me.

  • @CEShannVfB Agreed, it seems that so much of the history that inspires epics of such proportion or often lost in the popular culture who choose to assign frivolous meanings to timeless tales...

  • This is more than a piece of music, it is fully comprehensive story, with its own story arc and plot.

  • This is how you open a heavy metal set!

  • Tchaikovsky was the Black Sabbath, or even Metalica of his era. His music is so hard hitting. Listening to it is like being punched in the face and then smiling because you enjoyed it. These are not "songs", these are 19th century jams!!!

  • @mrlaymansterms1 I totally agree, 9:17 is like a ship accelerating into warp, hyperspace, or whatever. It's like he wasn't even in the 19th century when he composed this.

  • Certified *Sonar Missile! Tchaikovsky 'Marche Slave' - LSO Class **IGBM

*Sonar Missile - a cerebral, acoustic projectile used for detecting and locating beings that may be lurking in outer space by echolocation.

    **IGBM - Inter-Galactic Ballistic Missile

  • Tchaikovsky wrote this as a form of support for the Serbs during the Ottoman invasions.

  • The troll is HUNGRY!! >:)

  • not complaining about their musicianship. However, when the french horns and trumpets both play that overarching screaming melody, the french horns are a little behind

  • @paxe1

You are ignorant fool, do not compare helmet boy to great composer like Tchaikovsky.

  • @rub6

    It's just a troll. Don't feed it.

  • @Vovk3

I hate trolls, but it's not a troll, it just stupid child.

  • @paxe1 WTF???????????

  • Well, well, well.... Very nice...

  • We played this piece when I was in the 1989 Alabama All-State Band. We didn't sound this good though. It brings back a lot memories. I lost my cassette from that concert long ago.

  • im playing this song on piano one octave lower... it sounds so awesome!! (really creepy...!!!)

  • When I hear this I think of the struggle for mans thirst for power, and its ultimate collapse, starting a new era of peace and prosperity.

  • This is my favourite song to loop when I'm studying or writing something powerful.

  • Russian music is probably the most overlooked/underrated art there is!

  • @Fredrik1ST Agreed. Many of my favourite classical composers are Russian, not just Tchaikovsky. Borodin, the Rubensteins, Glinka, Rachmanninoff, Rimsky-Korsakov, and Stravinsky are a few other examples that I've listened to and enjoyed.

  • What I love about Tchaikovsky's music is that it's loud without it really ever SOUNDING bombastic and loud, you know?

  • I LOVE this song. We played it two years ago in my schools full orchestra, and it is definitely one of the most fun I have ever had playing anything :D

  • !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

  • When I run for President, this will be my campaign theme.

  • @Ivar366 mine will be the theme from Halo Reach

  • @Ivar366 this will be my call of duty black ops song when im completly shreading with a fully auto

  • @Ivar366 ill vote 4 ya

  • @Ivar366 umm this is russian and it has the russian theme song really wanna do tht but i must admit it is a great song

  • @Ivar366 That would mean that you have good taste in music--I'd vote for you! Haha

  • @Ivar366 LOL you hae my vote and my lulz! :D <3

  • @Ivar366

President? More like Emperor of the World!

  • @Ivar366 This sounds more like a dictator's theme...

  • i remember hearing this piece in the old nickelodeon show called salute your shorts back in the early 90s which the show in most of the episodes play classical music like marche slave and when i first heard it i love it right away imo best classical march ever along with pomp and circumstance by edward elger

  • Who are these 10 tone deaf people?

  • sarap talaga s tenga nitong overture nato!

  • i love this song!

  • I love how Tchaikovsky integrated the old Russian anthem into this.

  • I played this for orchestra. Best piece I ever played =P

  • @Meli1246 My sister played this as her first ever orchestral piece with West London Sinfonia last year and it was SO cool to be there! She's a cellist, so the part I know best is the cello line - I can sing it!!

  • God I hope we can play this well...... The conductor (one of the music teachers) is usually of the verge of a heart attack and/or stroke and/or seizure and/or massive ulcer EVERY practice.

Can you tell he's a perfectionist? There's no need to really be afraid until he's almost falling off his chair, or yelling so load his voice implodes on itself, so you can barely hear him, but you know EVERY word he says. THEN you KNOW your f-ed.

    GOD I love music.

  • what album is this from?

  • This was beautiful. It reminded me so much of Aladdin and I just... really got into it. I adore score music. :)

  • also did u kno it was March Slav bc we r playing it in our school band and were kik ass

  • Karajans is so much better

  • I love this song. And it's Marche Slav. Not Slave.

  • @Zelyasha It is in fact Marche Slave, however, the "Slave" is pronounced as Slav

  • Original title Slavic march was "The Russian-Serbian march" (composed of parts of the Russian and Serbian songs). Tchaikovsky make this work after the war, Serbia and Turkey in which they participated and Russian volunteers (Glory to them!). The commander of the Serbian army at the Battle of Adrovac (Serbia) was a Chernyayev (Lion of Tashkent), then killed and Nikola Raevsky (alias Vronsky, Anna Karenina)

  • I love it!!!! For me it's the perfect song

  • im playing this in the school band. it's so good!

  • ur effen luky =(

  • Always loved this piece. A few years have passed (lost the tape; yes, the TAPE!) and found it, rummaging, was recently listening to it. Wonderful. What most of the younger, & older people are missing. What is with this seemingly growing 'new' class of snobs actually look down on this sort of stuff?! Plus, a lot here seem to be HS students. US I assume. Why UK, Ireland, Europe etc don't encourage more parcipitation? My neice is learning violin, yay! Other than, I'll keep listening!

  • wasnt this in batman movie?

  • sir simon rattle?

  • Thanks for posting this. I am learning to play a simple rendition and wanted to hear how it should sound. I love this song.

  • So powerful . . .

  • our school's orchestra is playing this (strings only). whenever the first violins play the melody, i get so jealous of them...i play bass.

  • @MicrobeObliteratorMo but the bass solo is so worth it in the end i would think. I played it in a high school wind ensemble, playing the tuba, and the solo at 6:50 was well worth it.

  • Slavyanskiy Marsh/Slavonic March/Slavic March/Marche Slave. This music just roused me all the way!!!!!

  • Is it too much to ask who conducted this performance by the LSO?

  • Serbian-Russian march by Tchaikovsky,in historical context of Serb-Turkish war in 1876.First two parts of the play depicts sufferings of Christians under the Turks and the war,and the final part is Russian reply for aid.

  • I had to play the part at 6:54 as a Tuba solo last year because none of the baritones in my HS symphonic band could quite get it right. Best moment of my life (so far), even though I screwed up the first measure a bit : ) Amazing piece none the less.

  • The ending kind of reminds me of the William Tell oveture.

  • one of the best orchestral work since always!!!!

  • The South Carolina All-State Senior Honors orchestra will be playing this in a couple of months. I hoooooooooope I make it! :D

  • our orchestra played this too :D it was generally the same but you could hear that LSO was a lot cleaner...nonetheless i think we still did really well for being HS-ers =p

  • Why do they play in Moderato? I really enjoy the performance in Lento. It sounds much more sophisticated and inspring.

  • our HIGH SCHOOL ALL REGION ORCHESTRA PLAYED THAT TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT SOUNDED SOO THE SAME!!!!! :D

  • I wish I could be in the London Symphony.

    That would be incredible.

  • LSO is so badass.

  • Oh, are you aware that the top-right box says Op. 21 instead of Op. 31?

  • Thanks for catching that

  • @theslug2 lol luky one

  • @theslug2 - Thanks for upload, but the spelling is one of the commonest mistakes, of all. It's Marche Slav, not Marche Slave ... also, have you mentioned the conductor, before? Thanks!!

  • @jhb134 It is definitely Marche Slave. We're playing it in Wind Ensemble and that's what it says.

  • @SpedunkTV - (Marche Slave) - So it is; the French spelling. Just so we understand it's not a "slave's march", but one based on Slav/Serbian themes.

  • ah, i remember playing this!

  • 7:53 was the tune of our high school anthem

  • @darkbluemars i believe they call those alma mater

  • That is so fucking beast.

    DUDE.

    >D

  • some parts of this op. sound like "1812 Overture", also his composition

  • A lot of his compositions come from 1812 overture

  • @triina1 actually he wrote the 1812 overture after this

  • Some of those parts are based on the Russian National Anthem "God Save the Tsar". It is used in the 1812 Overture and also by Rimsky-Korsakov in Russian Easter Overture. It was a Russian patriotic thing to use the National Anthem.

  • @aquastriad Those parts are variations of the Russian national anthem, which he used in both pieces. and, i will say, are those similar parts are very fun to play as a bass instrument :)

  • Comment removed

  • @aquastriad

Among other similarities, both contain “God Save the Czar”

  • @aquastriad yea, tchaikovsky uses his themes multiple times in different pieces

  • @aquastriad Yeah, the Russian Imperial Anthem was spliced into both.

  • @aquastriad This common part is small part of Anthem of Russian Empire "God save Tzar"

  • @aquastriad Yes, they both also use "God Save the Tsar", Russia's former national anthem.

  • my high school orchestra class (the honors class) played this last nite in our concert!! and were playin it 4 the next concert @ the end of october!!! LOVE IT!!!! fav piece that we played in our concert!!

  • awesome piece! Next week, my orchestra will play this piece in our concert, we're 8th graders, though...

  • We sight read this piece today, even though it was a little shitty. The theme sounded awesome! These compositions make me love music!

  • Y'all enjoy this playing this piece...I did.

Forty years ago...trumpet. This, and 1812 overture, with the San Antonio Symphony.

  • 7:53 is my favorite brass part ever

  • playing this rite now in studio orchestra which is our school's advanced orchestra. great song:) new fan of tchaikovsky

  • What Studio Orchestra might that be?

  • 2:16 is my favorite my concert band is playing this in our upcoming concert..cant wait!

  • im a dancer and this is the song im dancing to this year for ballet. i love it. its so mysterious.

  • We just got this peice in my wind ensamble. Normaly, the bass clarinet never plays anything more complicated than straight 16th notes, so I was really shocked to see what I had to play in the peice. XD Sounds amazing though, and I'm gonna work really hard on it!

  • i've been playing this for a year with my orchestra. we toured strasbour this week gone by and we were amazing. note perfect. it's an absolute joy to play (i play the violin).

not bad for an orchestra ranging in age from 14 to 18 (:

  • I also played this with my orchestra. Love this piece. I play clarinet.

  • In 1996 my marching band incorporated this piece in the show we did it no justice this is simply beautiful!!!

  • Very nice! In a burst of patriotism, Tchaikovsky composed and orchestrated what was first known as the "Serbo-Russian March" (later to be known as "Marche Slave") in only five days.

Is composed of parts, themes from the two serbian folk songs and themes from the Russian anthem "God save the tsar"

  • beautiful sound!! Tchaikovsky happents 2be my one of my fav,, classic musiciance!!! incl,,beethoven&mozart&vivaldi&bach

  • After listening to this, I stopped and reflected on how amazing this was. Music these days really lacks the beauty this has.

  • @iMegabyzus so true at 2:15 i just started man screaming at my gf. This song just brings out the inner beast. then at 3:20 it's like nothing happened. She's looking at me like wtf

  • @iMegabyzus Well, most music, anyways.

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • This sounds much like imperial march...

  • It's most likely where they got it from...

  • This is a materful, beautifull piece.

  • i believe it means opus which is latin for work

  • what does "op. #" mean?

  • Opus.

  • Ah, how I miss playing this song, I really enjoyed playing this song. I played this song with the San Diego Symphony and I played Piccolo on this song and I really enjoyed it. This is a good recording but it's always better to be apart of it. :)

  • im playin this in my orchestra but its in a different key

  • I'm playing it in a different key also and in string orchestra version

  • HELL YES!!!

GREAT orchestra OUTSTANDING composer AMAZING work of music!!!

    My only comments :P

  • I played an arranged version... it sucks compared to this.

The arranger totally killed the mood and style. Completely missed out the ending, save the iconic stabbing block chords.

  • I know how to play it in piano ^^

  • Where did he get his inspiration from?

  • From his gay lover

(No, seriously... and if you don't know about his life story, I seriously recommend watching BBC's "Discovering Tchaikovsky" mini-series, it's fantastic)

  • Oh wow. I'm going to keep that in mind as I play it... lol.

  • his sexual orientation tore his life apart :(

    poor guy.

  • from...folk songs lol

  • Russian and Serbian forces inspired him for this lovely song.... and this song is symbol for freedom of all slavens people

  • Glorious... from bleak dread and stern countenance, to the utmost victorious hail. D.R.
