  • i didn't learn anything off this, i wasted my time, thanks

  • Its incrediable when the sky tuns blue back again!

  • Everything transcendent about America comes together in these moments, our engineering, our physics, which is also our music, our poetry, achievements, our intent, honest human striving that has earned its place in heaven .

I'm excited about going back to the moon in 2020, the new nanoenergy they've developed is fascinating.

  • wow that's crazy how things get quiet out in space.

  • Just cant get into the shuttle. Bring back the saturn V...now THAT was a rocket!!

  • are yes the flying bomb.

  • I'd love to hear the original footage.. this has a lot of data compression artifacts in the audio.

  • sts 115 has better quality footage.

  • At 4:14 you can still see the other SRB falling at the bottom of the frame. Also, are HD cams not feasible for NASA's budget? just wondering.

  • ive seen others with better resolution

  • The srb's separate at about 150,000 ft in altitude or about 2 minutes in.

Entry interface,or the point at which re-entry into the atmosphere can be said to begin is about 400,000 ft.

Considering that the space station orbits the Earth at an altitude of 200 miles, and the shuttle travels to and from the station, I would say that the shuttle is in space and not in the atmosphere.

  • why would you mic a rocket in the first place

  • Anything that any space agency does is done because it is cool. If they can shoehorn something scientific into the plan, that makes it easier to sell to the accountants.

  • That is one of the coolest vids I've seen on here.

  • i want to be an SRB.

  • you have to be dedicated!

  • You need a degree in Math, Science of Physics

  • lets be realistic about this! you have to be in great shape or the whole thing is pointless!

  • Yes to be an SRB you need a degree. Just strap on... :)

  • The thing I don't get is that from earth when I've watched the shuttle launch, it never seems like the SRBs make it into space but rather fall off shortly after take-off. This video is phenomenal and I guess proves us onlookers wrong.

  • They don't make it into space. The goal is to separate the booster motors from the cargo load (space shuttle and fuel tank) before they escape the gravitational pull of the earth so that they can be used again. RSRM = Reusable Solid Rocket Motor.

  • Actually to be absolutely correct, the shuttle itself never makes it into "space" instead it is actually in the very uppermost part of earth's atmosphere. And yes, the SRB's you're referring to are reusable.

  • that was interesting.

  • great vid :)

  • i made my calculation and found out that it took 4:37 minutes from the separation of the booster to when it hit the ocean. wow that it fast but it seemed very long to me.

  • That's actually a long-ass time to be falling: Imagine you were falling and were yelling at the same time. You'd be like "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh--(take a breath) ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (take another breath) ahhhhhhhhhhh, get bored, play snake or solitare on your phone, look at your watch, start saying the Star Spangled bann--SMACK!

  • ive seen this video many times and i dont get tired of it!

  • If I had some way of knowing it was going to be long like that then I wouldn't have watched it in the first place... double DURR to you bro unless you can figure out a way to let someone know it is so bloody boring and long.

  • there is a way of telling how long the video is if you look at the bottom of the window it says its 7:38 long at the bottom of the video window, who cares about it being edited, its actual footage people want to see, not something broken down so you dont get to see the cool shots, if you dont like it hit the back button and find something else.

  • That two minutes of nothing consists of ignition, blast off, the two minutes of time it takes for that thing to get into the outer stratosphere, and the firing of the booster separation motors -- leaving the shuttle traveling at 3094 mph.

Blah blah, year old post, blah blah, don't care -- masterblair is probably still just as ignorant now as he was then.

  • His mom scarred him with her dirty tricks disguising vegetables as dessert!

  • Nice video, thanks :D

  • You couldn't find something else to do for a couple minutes, masterblair?

  • they could have edited out the first two minutes of this video as it is just a long ass title and a lot of waiting watching the side of a rocket and nothing happening. Someone needs to learn to edit.
